svl7
Acer Aspire V3 series BIOS mods - better Nvidia GT 640m performance The Nvidia GT640m ("Kepler") which can be found in the Acer Aspire V3 series has an incredible overclocking potential. Unfortunately this is very limited due to VBIOS restrictions. This modified BIOS version will help you to unlock the full power of your GPU. The increased default clocks (3d) gives you additional performance without having to use any additional tools. If you want to go even further - the 135MHZ software overclocking limit is removed, so you can push your GPU to the limits. Mods based on Acer Aspire V3-5xx series BIOS 1.07: This BIOS is compatible with the V3-531, V3-571, V3-571G and all other models which I may have forgotten and use the same BIOS - Overclocking edition: 810 MHz core (3d) and boost - undervolting edition: depending on interest, tba Here some pics, at 810MHz and further overclocked per software... yeah, this works very well Instructions are included, refer to the READ ME file. Please provide feedback and leave a comment. If you like my work feel free to buy me a beer *************************************************************** F.A.Q.: Why do I need to flash the BIOS in order to get higher clocks? Isn't the VBIOS responsible for the GPU settings?Answer: Spoiler The GPU is soldered to the motherboard, its VBIOS is part of the BIOS, the only way to update it, is by flashing the BIOS How can I revert to the original BIOS?Answer: Spoiler Just download the original BIOS from the support site and flash it. What exactly got changed compared to the original BIOS?Answer: Spoiler Unless otherwise stated I only touched the VBIOS, this means the BIOS itself is exactly the same as the one from the Dell support site. The only difference you'll notice are the higher GPU clocks or other tweaks I've made, depending on the version you use. *************************************************************** Remember, you are responsible for the changes you make on your system, flash at your own risk.b
galakty
Yea its working. But I can't overclock the core more than 810 MHz ..
svl7
No idea, it seems that overclocking worked for the first tester (@Dunich)...
galakty
I dont know why, but I have the scores in furmarks lower than before with 729 Mhz on core .. Something is wrong.
Founder Brian Posted July 21, 2012 Founder Share Posted July 21, 2012 Maybe not getting enough voltage at those clocks?Sent from my GT-N7000
galakty
No .. Other peoples dont need to raise the voltages and they get high scores. I changed something in NCP. Now i get 2072 in 3d mark 11 .. Maybe the clocks of memory is too high. I'll test it.
Dunich
svl7 forgive me that i didn't answer to long, i was busy. So, like you asked there is a pic which shows the "graphics card" tab of GPU-Z and and overclocking tool with the sliders at max

zohan999
thumb up for 771g wonder if this mod is good for it.. got 640m, default clock is 624, memory 900, boost 709 gonna work?
Dunich
Of course it's gonna work.
Dunich
sl7 Is it normal that GPU Clock 810 Mhz and boost 709 Mhz? Here the screen.
zohan999
yep dunichess, juzz like thatthought to hear from the author
svl7
Well, the boost doesn't work anyway at such clocks if I remember correctly, so it doesn't matter. The core should sustain 810MHz.
Dunich
And one more question that i mentioned here http://forum.techinferno.com/general-notebook-discussions/1847-nvidia-kepler-vbios-mods-overclocking-editions-modified-clocks-voltage-tweaks-etc-24.html , post №239. svl7
This might be caused by not enough voltage for such clocks. Does it happen in all games?I don't have a system to test it myself, and the first guy who tested this BIOS said it was working well... Dunich
Not in all games. For example, the same problem i have with prototype 2 and Skyrim.
steverebo
i have a samsung series 7 with gt640m with 1gb ddr5, can you mod my bios to run at gt650m ddr5 speeds or am i able to flash my gt640 with a gt650 bios. obviously there is a beer in it for you if you can help at all
svl7
I can't download Samsung BIOS files, only the updating utility... which then is supposed to download the BIOS but it won't do this in my case (as I obviously don't use a Samsung system). You have to download the BIOS and send it to me, else I can't look at it.
spartanox
hi svl7, can you mod the latest version of acer V3 bios (Ver. 1.09) ?
t00nCiNaToR
When you say "Of course it's gonna work." does that mean this BIOS will flash to a V3-771G Laptop? Forced in DOS?If not, can svl7 let me know what values to change in my own BIOS file(Modding) so that I can do it myself? Thanks Guys! t00nCiNaToR
Hey svl7, where do we send a BIOS to in order to have it modded? This will be for a V3-771G Ver. 1.08, I can't see it being too much different than the V3-571G... Let me know, I will gladly test for you, thanks! 850/1100
portrayer
Hi svl7, would you please mod the bios of V3-471G? Your work is excellent! Hope I can use your vbios mods in my laptop.
_Maximator_
Hello, svl7. Maybe only you can help me. I have acer aspire v3-571g with gt630m, and i have a problem. When i play in perfomance game(1-2 minutes), my GPU heats up to 74 degrees and resets the frequency from 797mhz to 475mhz. Maybe this is throttling... but I think the temperature is low in order to reduce the CPU frequency... The service center could not help too. What do you think, is it possible to change the borders of throttling in the BIOS? Thanks! And sorry for my english:(
