NVidia driver won't install on a Clevo P170SM-A (Sager NP8278) with a GTX 1060m
I have the same issue as this thread:
https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/11908-1060-in-clevo-p750dm-g-isnt-recognized-by-nvidia-driver-little-help/

The laptop came with a 970m
I got the 1060m off of ebay.  It works fine in linux (though I had linux installed before switching the card).

I installed windows on a separate drive, but the driver won't install.

Originally it says "no compatible hardware found".

I've tried editing the nvcvi.inf file and it will attempt, but fail.

I've tried a number of driver version numbers.

Device Manager shows the hardware ID
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1C20&SUBSYS_74811558&REV_A1

I really don't care if it's a current driver or an older one.  I just can't stand it saying Microsoft Basic Display Driver.

Hi!

Try to install drivers with already modified inf files from this link:  https://premamod.wordpress.com/2017/08/15/j95-nvidia-inf/
