Will an Akitio Node work with a 2015 15in MacBook Pro? Anyone doing this as their setup?

Recommended Posts

I have one, with dedicated graphics card (AMD R9 M370X) want to know whether it would work because of the possible incompatibility of the thunderbolt controller (TI86/87) of the Node

I think I have a similar question. I have a macbook 13" (late 2013) and want to know if this will work with the Akitio Thunder3 with the Apple Thunderbolt 3 to 2 converter cable. I want the Akitio thunder3 as I'll upgrade my macbook in a year or two and want to future proof my purchases. Would like to get definite confirmation from someone who has tried it themselves.

it's a bidirectional adapter. so you can use it with a thunderbolt cable to connect the node into a 2015 MBP. i haven't yet got mine working (work in progess), but i have managed to get my gtx egpu recognised in device manager, and i saw it in msi afterburner too. but still working on it, as for some reason nvidia driver won't install, gets stuck on preparing to install.

I have a Mid 2014 15" MacBook Pro. The Thunderbolt 3->2 adapter+ Thunderbolt 2 cable from the Apple store works fine. I have the Akitio Node Thunder 3( https://www.akitio.com/expansion/node)  with a GTX 1080TI working on Windows 10 via bootcamp and Mac OS v 10.12.5.

Hello, I need help trying to put my setup to work. I recently purchased an Akitio Thunder 2 with a GTX 1050 ti Superclocked to implement it as an eGPU for my system. I have a Macbook Pro 15” mid 2012. I’m not interested in using it with OS X (I’ve read that there is not much support by Apple for Nvidia cards Series 10). My main goal is to use it using Windows 8.1. I had some trouble with the initial connection as Windows recognized the external card but it gave me error code 12. I already got rid of the error 12 problem. The situation now is that I connected a second display through the HDMI port of the eGPU and activated it using the Nvidia Control Panel. After a restart I choose to boot windows 8.1 again but the two displays get hanged with black screens and I only see the cursor. Anybody has had this problem and was able to fix it?

I did some further testing, decided to boot up with the eGPU connected but without the HDMI cable plugged. I was able to log in to Windows and the eGPU got recognized in device manager, but then I connected the HDMI cable and for one second I saw my Macbook screen displayed in the external monitor, then both screens hanged again with black screens only showing the cursor. I’m exhausted of experimenting and seeing no positive results...

My goal is to be able to use the eGPU with the internal monitor of the Macbook (if that is possible with my system). If not, I would like to know how I can set it to work with a second display. I will be very grateful if somebody can help me... Sorry for the long post.

Hi guys. I have had my egpu setup and running fine for the past year or so on my mbp (mid 2012) which has a hdd drive.
I now want to improve the gaming performance, so I've bought an ssd.

I manage to get through all the steps in eGPU Setup 1.2 but when i go through the bootloader, it says at the very end "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key".

I'm guessing it is to do with my ssd being in the optical drive bay location (i assume this is hd1) and the original hdd (hd0) being disconnected, so windows can't see it when in bootloader.

I think I need to edit the config file for the chainloader, so the bootloader reads the ssd but what exactly do i need to change?

I tried changing the map section (line 55):
      map --harddrives=1
      if "%DRV%"=="C"

      map (%FIRSTHDD%) (hd0)

Changing the (hd0) to (hd1) put the bootloader in a loop!? So I am not sure what to try next...

      Any help is greatly appreciated!

      Thanks
