[Alienware - Clevo - MSI] Aftermarket Upgrades Driver Support - Modded INF

J95

Recommended Posts

I have a noob question, sorry if it has been asked before, but there are a lot of posts to read on this thread. I have recently gotten a clevo P870DM2 with a GTX1080 and I saw that other owners were installing these drivers. My question is, what are the benefits of installing these modded drivers over vanilla?

Any help would be appreciated - I am havin trouble installing drivers even now that I've switched to a Quadro K5100M card (originally from Precision M6800). I am getting either failure of setup application or an information that the driver might be corrupted or victim of tampering.

Is it possible that the CPU is a problem - i7 3940XM? How about the PSU - I have a Dell 210 Watt one.

@thegh0sts try out 372.95, GPU temp dropped 9ºC & CPU temp dropped 6ºC, test first 372.90 then 372.95 same game.

P870DM2/3 GTX1080 owners. like above, please compare GPU & CPU temperatures between v372.90 & v372.95.

@szumial Install 372.95 using nvdmwi.inf below, disable driver signing before installing drivers and copy the PhysX folder from v372.90 Win10.

210W PSU is pretty weak for both 880M/3940XM, please run stock clocks.

Thank you @J95 for commitment! I got a K5100M running and stable. I will give the 880m another try with your advice. And will definitely get myself w stronger PSU in the near future.

@trashmonk - people install these drivers when theu upgrade their laptops with different GPUs that were not originally intended to be put in these machines. For instance I swapped an old Quadro for a GTX880m and now for a newer Quadro K5100M card. Then you need modded drivers.

I am unsure exactly which driver to download. Its a little confusing. I have a alienware m17x r4 with a 60hz non 3d lcd and a 880m card. Could someone be so kind as to point me to the correct driver download for this setup. The only thing i can get to work is mr foxs older premade drivers. Id like the newer drivers.  Ive tried modding the inf myself and it passes the compatibility check then fails the install. Yes i did disable driver enforcement.  Also note i am running win10 x64. Thank you ahead of time. Seems like a great community here!

I have a 3rd gen i7 if that makes a difference as well..

After upgrading (automatically) my computer to Win10 Anniversary Edition, my GTX970M never get activated, whatever I try, even with the Win 10 embeeded driver for nvidia cards... They just crashed after launch :( Seems to be an Optimus problem.

I'm hoping @Prema will release the version 3 of its BIOS for my P170EM since I seems that I cannot take advantage of my 970M anymore :( Apart from that, updating is so much a hassle with v2, I'm upgrading my video driver only if I had no choice...

I have a GTX 770m in Alienware 17 r5 with svl7 ROM Nvidia GTX 770m VBIOS "OC edition" - rev02, overclocked at 1150MHz as the attached picture, please find below the Hardware IDs requesting the best driver for it. NVIDIA System Information attached as well.

Same here... with P170EM, @J95 is on it.

The only version that works for me so far (did not update my driver for ages) is 359.12 BUT I had to uninstall the last version of Windows 10 Update (1607 - Anniversary Edition).

Thank you @J95! Your guidance allowed me to get a GTX880m working in a Dell M6700 - something theoretically impossible. I didn't need to get rid of the Physx folder, however I needed a different approach to modding the INF file. I followed your tips and now everything works like charm. Now let's get to some testing! :) CHEERS

I have an M17X-R3 with an 880M and have used these modded drivers before without issue.

The latest Windows 10 update really screwed my  laptop up. Once I finally got it installed I was back to the white screen. I pulled the card and got the sound working again and then put the card back in. I am unable to install any of the nvidia drivers without it failing. I have tried the modded 368.25 and the 372.95 but no luck.

hey j95,

This is raidriar over from NBR. I've been using your modded drivers for a long time with 780M SLI and now I try with the 980M SLI. I have a very weird issue in windows 7 when using the latest drivers. Whenever I am doing light work (browsing, typing, navigating windows, etc), the driver freaks out and crashes randomly (black screen for 3 seconds, revert back, says nvidia kernel driver crashes). I reverted to the 353.00 throttle free driver, and the issue is gone. I've tried several drivers from the 36x.xx and 37x.xx branches, all give me this issue. Any ideas?

nvcvi.zip

That's Clevo's stock inf, missing your HWIDs "13D8.6471.1558". Maybe nv_dispi.inf was used instead.

Like above, try pre-RS1 drivers.

Optimus model? Try switching to dedicated mode and install drivers using nv_dispi.inf for AW laptops.

Optimus model? You must fully disable iGPU (BIOS), if it still doesn't work then disable the sound card. RS1 messed up both Sandy & Ivy bridge laptops.

Delete the proper folders before installing drivers, also uncheck "Hardware Acceleration" for Chrome, Firefox & Thunderbird.

Yes it is Optimus. Windows 10 has been pissing me off and the latest update was the last straw. I went back to Windows 7. I got 359.12 installed but still had problems getting anything newer. I had missed disabling the integrated video in bios. Once I did that I got 372.90 installed no problem, Thanks J95.

It doesn't happen exclusively with Firefox, it also happens with simply using Windows Explorer, which I assume is also hardware accelerated graphics for aero effect...Will wait for the new drivers and see if I can come up with a workaround. Some more experimentation showed this is only an issue with SLI enabled. When SLI is disabled, this issue goes away. PhysX has no impact on it and neither does the HD audio driver. I would say power states trigger the issue, but I see it changing power states on 353.00 without issue. Aero hardware accelerated graphics and firefox hardware accelerated graphics work fine too on 353.00 without any modification

@technos try nv_dispi.inf v373.06 (minor change), remember to delete the folders above. Crashes can occur minutes after quitting firefox anyway.

@hoani install nvcvi.inf v373.06 below, 359.12 section 30  "13D8.7102.1558" were changed to "section 064" RS1 and "section 063" TH2 respectively by Nv.

Disable driver signing and delete the proper folders as shown above.
