Sorcerer Tempest
Hi guys, I am new to the forum and to the eGPU setup process. I am having some difficulties in getting my setup to work. I would appreciate any help offered by this amazing community My hardware includes: Akitio Thunder2 Thunderbolt to PCIe box Inno3D GTX970 GPU Antec TruePower 650 power supply PCIe 16x Riser (Not powered) My setup is as follows: My PSU is connected to my GPU's 2 6pin connectors, as well as to the Thunder2 box via the barrel plug (via another PCIe 6-pin cable from my PSU) I've tried to use the original Thunder2 power supply to power the Thunder2 instead of from the separate PSU as well A DisplayPort cable connects my GPU to my external 4k monitor The included thunderbolt cable from the Thunder2 is used to connect my Thunder2 to my iMac (Late 2012) I've tried all the possible combinations of the different thunderbolt ports on the box and my iMac I've even tried it with my MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) The PCIe 16x raiser connects the GPU to the Thunder2 In macOS (10.12 Sierra), I hot-plugged my thunder2 to my Mac (with the PSU on). Then, I tried to use the automated script in an attempt to install drivers for my GPU (https://github.com/goalque/automate-eGPU). However, I got the following error message: Quote Thunderbolt device is connected, but no external GPUs detected. In Windows 10 (Bootcamp), I turned on my PSU, plugged in everything before booting, but Windows won't detect my GPU, i.e. I cannot see my GPU in device manager (only the built int GTX 675MX is there). In both cases, the Thunder2's blue and green lights both are on when i boot into both OS, and the GPU's fan spin at full speed. I would really appreciate it if anyone can offer any help for me! Can't wait to enjoy the benefits of a eGPU. Thank you all so much in advance Edited October 1, 2016 by Sorcerer Tempest Added macOS version
longhoangpham
I am interested to know as well, if anyone have a solution, I've read around, I am using a EXP GDC eGPU, however, what version, I do not know either, because it came as a package, and I am using the Sonnet Thunderbolt Expresscard Reader. I have the DELL Adapter, I am assuming it is about 220W, DELL AC/DC Adapter DA-2 Series. I am currently using MacBook Pro Retina with NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M video card, but, I am trying to get the ASUS GTX970 Strix DirectCU 2, but I am still unable to get it to detect. I am using windows 10, version 1607, bootcamp on x64 bit, everything is plugged in as well, did everything that was said, and had the CTD and PTD in off mode. I am not sure if it supposed to be used with windows 7/8.1, perhaps, windows 10 is not supported.

If you are using the paperclip trick to power the PSU, you will need to swap the paperclip to the other side of the connecter. If you put the paperclip on the wrong side, everything will power up as normal but the GPU will not receive the right amount of power so osx will not see it. Swap the clip over and it will work. See my attachment. You either need the clip in 1&2 or 3&4. Make sure you power your mac off before retrying each time.
