Lenovo Y510P CPU Upgrade

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody!

I am also the owner y510p like many of you!

Some time ago I decided to upgrade the CPU, and after a long search found references to authentic information that help you to upgrade to Intel® Core ™ i7-4910MQ Processor (8M Cache, up to 3.90 GHz).

Previously, I had a Intel® Core ™ i7-4700MQ Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.40 GHz). I have not conducted specific tests, but on the whole system more responsive.

If someone is interested in information about the final performance - write in the comments and I'll try your test.

Have you changed your CPU? If you have changed, on what CPU?

I wish you all a good day!

My setup:

  • GeForce GT 755M SLI
  • Intel® Core ™ i7-4910MQ Processor
  • 16gb RAM (DDR3-1600 Kingston 11-11-11-28)
  • 240gb SSD Kingston SH103S3240G
  • 256gb SSD Transcend TS256GMTS400 (m2)

4910MQ is of course good choice! I have nearly identical configuration and I'm planning similar CPU enhancement...

Do you have records of average temperatures of CPU/board/disks(M.2) during normal operation before the upgrade with 4700MQ and after upgrade with 4910MQ?  With what

thermopaste(grease) did you replaced original one?

If you can run live linux, what is the indicated bogomips of the CPU?

Hi, Venc Dee!

Lately I've been a little busy, so i could not answer.

I answer a little later about the temperature.

That performance in BogoMIPS.

Was it worth it? I have y510p with a single 755M and a i5 4200m, was wondering about upgrading it to a 4 core.

And what about SLI, is it still buggy as hell? I'm talking about game-performance.

Yes, I think it was worth it! About performance, the hardest change is felt when the PC boots, when a plurality of applications, and they are in the startup, the PC easier to handle the load.

About SLI - nope, after flashing bios and vbios, and underclocking everything works well! The extended gaming session, there are no problems with subsidence or performance lags or bugs with SLI.

Buona giornata!

I know this is an old thread but @johnbizokk what increase in scores you got in benchmarks vs the original 4700?

I have a i5 4200m, planning to upgrade to 4710mq.

It should work right? has the same socket but not listed in manual.

Edit: I upgraded and it works fine.

      Hi

Currently I am using Nvidia 376.44 version for SLI functionality. On trying to install any higher version , SLI wont function & only 1 card works.

if anyone is using higher version Than the one mentioned above for SLI, please let me know

      Thank You

hello everyone, I have a MSI GT683R with a dying (pretty much dead actually) GTX560M in it.

I am looking to upgrade it to a new GPU, I have found a AMD Firepro M6100. (I first wanted to upgrade to a GTX970M, but that's too expensive for now... and corona is also making things difficult) I have already ordered a second heatsink to modify because I didn't want to modify the original heatsink it came with.

But, my question is. Does it even work in this system? I have heard of people getting it to work in the barebone variant of this system. But I am not sure if it would work in the 'fully loaded' variant.

Also, my games are mostly RAM/CPU dependent and I am looking for a little extra power in this system. I have found a I7-2860qm and I want to upgrade to 32GB of RAM, is it possible on this system? the sticker says 'max. 16GB of RAM' But I have feeling it says that due to the limitation of the cpu that's already on this system (I7-2630QM, 16GB RAM max.)

      I am planning to get this Charger (170w 20v 8.5a) - https://www.amazon.in/Lenovo-ThinkPad-4X20E50574-170W-AC/dp/B00MLTQ99Y

Will this combination work to run Both GT755m of Y510p?

      Thanks

Hey Everyone. I'm looking through the forums and found out that I can make my old Lenovo a Hackintosh. Is it worth doing? Can you dual boot Windows 10 and OS10?

I have an HP Probook 6570b, Motherboard is Hewlett-Packard 17AB (U3E1) with HM76 Chipset, rPGA988b Socket and CPU is i5-3210M.   This is a list supported CPU's, but it's a support list for the HM76 Express Chipset, and not a support list for Motherboard's. http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_(chipsets)/HM76_Express.html     Can I upgrade to i7 Quad, preferably i7-3840QM?

I've read that people with QM77 Chipset were successful, but what about HM76 Chipset?
