  1. Hi there, This is the quick step, if you don't want read more: 1. download intel graphics driver 21.20.16.4839 2. Do the inf hack, looks into the Graphics directory, find the file igdlh64.inf, modify it. Add this line into windows 7 install section [IntelGfx.NTamd64.6.1] %iKBLULTGT2% = iSKLD_w7, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_5917 3. Find the file igdumdim32.dll, edit it by a hex editor, like winhex or ultraedit. Search this binary string in it: 83 F8 13 75 43 F7 42 04 00 00 00 02 modify the following two bytes into 90 90 4. Find the file igdumdim64.dll, edit it by a hex editor, like winhex or ultraedit. Search this binary string in it: 01 76 17 83 F9 13 75 44 F7 42 04 00 00 00 02 modify the following two bytes into 90 90 5. install the driver, restart. 6. install/reinstall the discrete video card driver, not recommend a newest one. I use nvidia 397.64 driver on my MX150. 7. enjoy it with full fucntion works. Start from here: As you know Intel didn't support graphics drivers for 7th and 8th CPU on windows 7, I do lots of research on web found some inf hack to resolve it like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6nPLoRtipA This way looks work, but not perfect, I found when I playback video, player always crash on my UHD 620 (Embedded in I7 8550U) , whatever I used. And someone said replace some dll file will let playback work normal, but 3D function couldn't work, like this guy: https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/12141-intel-core-i7-8th-gen-with-windows-7-intel-uhd-graphics-620-driver-dell-inspiron-5770/ I try all methods in the post found the same issue, so I try to dig into this problem, and finally I hack the driver binary file(DLL file) successfully. I must say this is not easy, you need some hacking background to understand how it work. First things, choose a right driver version. I do a lot testing work to test different version.I try to merge some of them but all of them couldn't work stable enough. Finally I did some research the about the display drivers difference between winows 7 and windows 10. Basically, the display drivers support windows 7 must follow WDDM 1.1, but on windows 10 it support WDDM 2.0+. This means you must choose a version which support WDDM 1.1 and it support 6th or 7th CPU at the same time. Another words, your driver version must support both windows 7, and then can support graphics like HD 620 on windows 10. Drivers can match this demands isn't too much, the newest you can found officially is version 15.45.23.4860 (21.20.16.4860): https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27360/Graphics-Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-15-45- This version is OK, but I didn't use it, because I found drivers in same series 21.20.16.xxx, which is 4839 is listing on the windows update catalog directory by Microsoft. You can learn how to do it on youtube from my first link. Here's some notice, the UHD 620's device ID is PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_5917, add the line in windows 7 section which should be like the following part. After restart, you will found the Aero came back again. And run dxdiag to check if the 3D function can work, it should work. Here you even can play some 3D game now. But the player crash couldn't stop. And the video tab of intel configure panel will crash too. Most tutorial on web will end here, but my hacking is just begin. Here I must claim someone wants try to merge file to let this work, I don't think this will work. Because the different WDDM support in diffferent system, if one driver only support in windows 10 it couldn't be run on the windows 7. I tried merge the windows 10 driver into windows 7, and resolved tons of DLL missed and function redirect, modify tons of improt table of DLL, The drivers can be loaded, but it won't work. Just like you install a defalut VGA driver, no 3D function will work correctly. I started from the player crash, it reported that it crash in igdumdim32.dll @0x59c4EA0C, the igdumdim32.dll and igdumdim64.dll is the Intel's user space graphics drivers' core file, the Intel's graphics has a small kernel part called miniports, it only open the tunnel between userspace application and the hardware, the real working part is in the DLL, like 3D function, video acceleration and Direct draw. This must be done under the safe mode, restart windows and press F8 before windows startup, goes into safe mode to replace it. After reboot, you will get all things work. PS: In my system the nvidia's video card cause some problem, it will let system hang sometime, I highly recommand to reinstall the nvidia's drivers after install the Intel's drivers. and choose a lower version, but not the newest version. I have UHD 620 and MX 150 in my system, and after I reinstall the 397.64 nvidia drivers the problem gone away and the laptop works like a charm.
  2. Today I decided to be helpful. If you're like me and you hate bloatware with a burning passion and you absolutely must ave a 100% clean hard drive, then you're reading the right post! This is a Windows 7 and drivers installation guide for the Alienware M14X R1 (not the R2). I downloaded the latest drivers (as of 8/26/2012)for you guys from the offiicial dell drivers website (Drivers and Downloads | Dell [united States]) and arranged them in order of installation. I also included the latest NVIDIA driver 304.79 (BETA) and other important installers you need after doing a Windows 7 installation. Customize the settings of Windows 7 (battery settings, wallpaper, screensaver, etc) also I provided all 4 alienware WMP skins OpS 27. Install MS office (and run every single program of it once and configure settings, click updates to the recommended setting) if you have it. If you dont have it, ignore this step. 27. Install Antivirus program NOW if you don't want to use the Microsoft Security Essentials that come with windows updates. (I highly recommend using MSE, it's an awesome, not annoying, super quiet anti-virus program, and it doesn't take much space) 28. Type Windows Updates, configure the schedule on it, check every check box on the settings and check for updates 29. Tick every single checkbox for important updates 30. Tick every single checkbox for optional updates EXCEPT for "bing desktop" hide this abomination and never make contact with it again (lol jus kiddin) 31. Install all the updates. (This will TAKE A LONG TIME make sure your laptop doesn't shutdown/sleep/hibernate on the process and keep an eye on it, some updates need user input especially MSE) 32. After the first batch of windows updates are done, check it again, there will be more left. then install all of them. 33. When you are sure there are no more updates, then you can proceed to install your games and other programs 34. I recommend installing the AlienAutopsy program, it's PC Doctor alienware version, it comes with your alienware laptop out of the box. I don't consider it bloatware as it is useful when I want to check for hardware problems. 35. After you have installed all your games and programs, run a full scan with your antivirus, run a default scan on AlienAutopsy, fix all options on windows and your programs, do everything you have to do. Check for updates on all your programs. 36. Now to make your laptop *SUPER* Clean, Defragment your Hard Drive (for HDD I'm not sure this is recommended for SSD users) 37. Check C:/, C:/Program Files and C:/Program Files (x86)for any unwanted files. 38. Type cleanup on start menu and clean up everything 39. Run CCleaner (Provided in download section) clean reistry, and check every box except wipe free space (I've tested this and it doesn't harm your computer) 40. Create a restore point 41.   3. Help me Tech Inferno, you're my only hope. Ok so firstly, apologies for yet another 8 beeps thread. I must have read 100 of them over the last week. I feel like I'm missing something obvious, but I'm totally burned out after days of working on this so would appreciate some outside perspective. I live in the UK, so I've avoided buying a 980m to upgrade my 660 for years to due the price/import tax etc. I finally found a good priced 980m on Ebay a few weeks ago so I thought why not give my trusty 18x r2 a few extra years of life. I ordered the 100w heatsink, x bracket etc from Eurocom at the same time and everything arrived on the same day. Here's what I've done so far in the last 7 days: -Flashed unlocked A11 BIOS (I rolled back to Dell A11 first) -Removed 660m and installed 980m -With BIOS in Legacy, Installed Windows 7 on a new SSD with BIOS set to IGFX -Tried to switch to PEG but got 8 beeps so reset CMOS battery -Switched to SG and booted to Windows. 980m detected as default hardware. Installed 980m Driver from Eurocom and restarted. Device manager shows 980m working normally along with HD Graphics 4000. Tried PEG again but still got 8 beeps -Reset battery, booted to Windows and disabled the 980m in Device Manager -Flashed VBIOS from here (I read that the dell VBIOS doesn't work well so tried Clevo one first, but I've since tried both and a few others) -Re enabled 980m and restarted Laptop still in Legacy SG. -Tried to test a game but they only want to use HD Graphics 4000. When I try to open NVIDIA Control Panel and change some settings I get a blue screen and have to restart. -Tried PEG again, still 8 beeps I've tried many combinations of drivers, VBIOS and BIOS settings over the last week but the result is mostly the same. I get 8 beeps in PEG. I thought perhaps the seller had sent me a G-sync version as I have read these don't play well with PEG, but I checked the hardware ID (PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D7&SUBSYS_05501028&REV_A1) and what I've read seems to indicate this is the Non G-Sync card. I got the 980m rather than the 1060 after reading the forums as I saw so many success stories I figured it would be the safer option. I understand this laptop is basically dead to most of you now, but if any techsperts are around and could give me some other things to try I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Max
  4. Hi, I have a Dell E6430 laptop with an Intel 4000 integrated gpu. I am trying to upgrade it to a GTX 1050 TI eGPU with the GDC Beast expresscard adaptor and a 450W power supply while using the internal display. The problem is that when I plug the GPU into the laptop after startup, the gpu is not recognized by the device manager. When I try to download the Nvidia driver from the CD and the website manually, it gives me the "Nvidia cannot find compatible hardware". When I plug the GPU into the laptop before startup, I get a black screen and my laptop starts up, as I can hear the startup screen, but the screen stays black. The light is on for the GPU and the fans are spinning. My laptop seems to recognize the GPU because it acts differently on startup when it is plugged in, but doesnt recognize it if I plug it in after. I have tried to follow some BIOS setups like disabling Wake on LAN, NIC onboarding, and Integrated NIC. I also tried to use DDU to unistall both the intel GPU and the Nvidia GPU while restarting. I have tried to use an HDMI from the eGPU to an external display and get the same black screen. I also tried it on another laptop and the Nvidia showed up in the device manager on that laptop. I am just trying to play PUBG! Please let me know if there are any suggestions, Thank you!

I am trying to get my laptop withing with an eGPU, i have: Lenovo e540 laptop, EXP GDC Beast 8.4d with mPCIe connector, Nvidia GTS 450, Power X3 450W PSU, eGPU setup 1.30 Initially I would get a black screen when trying to boot with the eGPU connected and when trying with plugging the mPCIe connector in during boot I got this error: "0187: EAIA data access error. 2201: Machine UUID is invalid." Connecting the GPU to an external monitor has no effect. I got around this by putting tape on one of the pins as per this post. After that I no longer get the black screen but windows 7 does not detect the GPU, the fan on the GPU still spins when the laptop turns on and there is a green light on the EXP GDC. I followed the guide on this post but I got this BSOD once rebooting after applying the DSDT override in step 2: "The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant. Please contact your system vendor for an updated BIOS. Technical information: ***STOP: 0x000000A5 (0x0000000000000006,0xFFFFFA80066BCD50,0xFFFFFA8007103CAB,0XFFFFFA80074FD340)" Does anyone have and suggestions or advice? Thank you in advance. UPDATE: Was able to get Win 7 to detect the GPU when swapping the mPCIe connector while in sleep mode but now I have error 12. UPDATE: Tried the DSDT override guide here but loading dsdt-modified.aml as a registry override causes a blue screen and setup 1.3 hangs when loading the dsdt-modified.aml as an in-memory substitution, it does not hang when the SATA mode is changed from AHCI to Compatibility but it is too fast for me to tell what it does and it causes windows to freeze on boot once it is done with no effect on memory for the next boot. Got it working, just trying to get the laptop to switch to the eGPU now.
  6. Okay guys, I'm really stuck. My desktop PSU went bad probably about a year ago, (I thought the computer was completely fried) so I took out the HDD and began using it as an external hard drive. I formatted it, and used it however I needed it. I finally got around to repairing my desktop, and it now works. So I formatted the HDD again, and put it back into the desktop. When I attempt to install Windows 7 via a disk, however, I get this error: "No drives were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation." I attempted to find drivers and install them onto a USB to allow me to use the HDD, unfortunately none of them worked though. I have absolutely no idea what to do now. Any help would be appreciated! Here are some specs: HP Pavilion a824n PTGD1-LA motherboard Western Digital WD Caviar SE WD2000 One final note: When I click "Load Driver" then click "Browse" it detects the HDD, so I don't believe the HDD is faulty.   7. My Sager NP9752-S / Clevo P750ZM will not recognize external monitor on HDMI port (I know monitor and cable work as I can use from a different laptop). Additionally, cannot enter the BIOS after having replaced the original Nvidia Quadro K1100M GPU with a Quadro K5100M. If I put in the original K1100M I can access the BIOS. But when I put in the K5100M it shoots straight into Windows. Someone mentioned previously something about UEFI. I am running Windows 7. How do I know if I have UEFI? So 2 issues: 1) Do I need to enable the HDMI port in the BIOS? 2) Why can't I access the BIOS any more?
  8. Not sure where to post this so I just added it to general. I just upgraded my M17X R4 120Hz from 675m to a 980m and I'm having a problem I hope someone here can help me with. To start: It was installed correctly and successfully on Windows 10 (I wanted to start somewhere more certain). Everything worked fine and everything read fine (as far as the graphics card goes). After I was sure everything was working properly, I reverted to Windows 7. As I read, with the current unlocked BIOS A11 (posted on this site) it's capable of running 9xxM series in windows 7. When I installed 7 on this laptop soon after buying it (reformatted old HDD, moved to bay 1, inserted 500GB SSD in bay 0 and installed 7 OS on it) I installed selecting the UEFI option and the drive is in GPT. As mentioned, I have Unlocked A11 BIOS (thank you to the maker on this site!). Anyway, once I reverted to 7 it started to boot up and said it needed to run startup repair. I allowed it and it froze once the bar filled at the bottom. Upon restarting I tried once more.. same thing. I tried to "start normally" and it starts boot looping. I then changed "Load Legacy Option Rom" from disable to enable. This causes the 8 beep post issue immediately upon power on. This problem doesn't exist when this option is disabled. I then utilized the HDMI trick (I made a separate post for this the other day. Connect HDMI out to any screen and it will cause post on the laptop screen [but not on the external device]. Can then immediately disconnect once post has occured and works fine with no error or beeps). This let it boot up and I'm able to get to the desktop and everything works fine. Can even run screen at 120Hz. I ran diagnostics on the card, checked drivers.. everything is reading correctly. This is workable, but far from an ideal solution as I need to have a cable and some kind of HDMI screen available just to boot up every time. I have two option here and I'm hoping someone can provide a little guidance one way or the other. I can either fix the boot looping issue on "Legacy Rom - disabled" (it hangs on classpnp.sys when I try safe mode if that information helps at all). OR, I need to find a way for it to post when "Legacy Rom - enable" without connecting to an HDMI device (just plugging in the cable doesn't work. It has to be connected to something on the other end). For the first, I have tried start up repair and tried repairing using my WIN 7 disc but it doesn't actually pull up the menu. It just shows the windows loading screen and then freezes after a while. For the second I have tried changing different video options in hopes it will post on boot without connecting to an external or tried to find a way to keep the HDMI port active without something being in it. I can make no progress with either of these as I'm unaware exactly what exaclty the selections change. I currently have it set to PEG. Also, I have tried bios reset through removing all power sources and the 2032 CMOS and holding power button 30 seconds. Didn't help. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to ask any questions you have that could assist in ascertaining the source of the problem in either instance. As a last resort, I could go back to 10, but I would really rather not. The R4 (in Dell's words) isn't being tested for compatibility. Many features don't seem to work, and overall I just much prefer 7.
  9. Hello everyone I bought my y510p a year ago and finally decided to replace the DVD drive with a second GT750M. The first thing I did once I got the laptop was installing windows 7 as I just can't stand 8. Now that I got the second GPU I looked for drivers and only found this NVIDIA GeForce GT750M Second VGA BIOS Update for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) - IdeaPad Y410p, Y510p - Lenovo Support (US) So I suck it up and install windows 8.1. After following the installing instructions I keep getting the "no nvidia display adapters found" error message. Meanwhile Windows 8.1 just doesnt click with me so I go back to windows 7 and square one... Is there a way to manually flash the BIOS into recognizing my second GT750M? Forgive my lack of technical terms as I am quite the layman. Thank you in advance, have a nice day

  11. Okay guys, I'm completely stumped. I've tried for about the past two days now to transfer all of my data from my current 250gb HDD to my new 128gb SSD in my Alienware M15x. There's only 69.7gb on the old hdd, and I've shrunken the partition down to 106gb to fit into the 128gb (119gb in actuality) SSD. The M15x only has one SATA port (correct term?) for me to fit in an HDD/SSD, so I'm forced to use a 200gb external hard drive (again, the partition shrunken down to 94.1gb to fit into the new SSD) as a "middleman" to transfer the data. I've attempted the "Create a system image" option by creating a system image in the external hard drive, taking out the HDD and replacing it with the SSD, putting in a Windows 7 64x installation disk, and selecting the "Repair my computer" option to recover the system image from the external hard drive into the new SSD. When I try to do so, however, I can an error message stating: "No disk that can be used for recovering the system disk can be found." Another note: When I attempt to create my own system repair disk and use them, I get an error message (I forgot what it said, it was just a bunch of numbers), therefore I'm forced to use a different Windows 7 64x disk I got off the internet (and that I know works). I do have the original Windows 7 64x disk that came with the Alienware M15x, however, when I attempt to use that, I never get the "Repair your computer" option, it only gives me the option to install the OS. So essentially, here is my question: Does anyone know how I can transfer my OS/data from my old HDD to my new SSD? If you new any more details, or anything else to help me resolve this problem, feel free to ask. Thank you in advance!

I bought the laptop with Win8 installed. Used GParted to remove, then installed Win7 Pro. I think the 2.xx series bios are for Win8 so I now boot legacy (booting UEFI leads to "no bootable devices found"). I am looking to unlock the full BIOS menu. So if anyone can mod the BIOS above or explain how to downgrade my BIOS to 1.xx series I would be a very happy man. Thanks in advance.
