  1. Hi guys, bit of a rookie to the whole EGPU scene. Currently I have: - MacBook Pro 2015 13inch (3.1GHz Core i7 16GB RAM) - Razer X Core - Apple TB3 to TB2 Adapter - TB2 Cable (Cable Matters) - 23inch AOC External Monitor I am wonder about what graphics card to get to run X-Plane11 with high graphic settings? I have purgewrangler set up and ready to use with an AMD graphics card, but am also open to the idea of an Nvidia graphics card. Any advice appreciated. I did not buy a Windows PC as I need a Mac for various other things and wanted an all-in-one laptop.
  2. I am running Windows build 16193 (Redstone 3) on a portable SSD as Windows to go. And macOS Sierra 10.12.4. Windows to Go was created using EasyUEFI's wintousb program. I have previously used Windows 8.1 to success and 10 which needed DSDT override. This is a guide on how i get Windows 16193 working successfully with RX 480: 1. Leave Thunderbolt cable unplugged from Mac before turning it on. 2. Press option to load Windows to go Portable SSD Windows 10 16193 build. 3. Enter DIY eGPU Setup 1.35 with iGPU connected only. Configure it as: Press 3 to enter Menu based setup PCI Compaction 》 Legacy mode checked 》 Closeunusedbridges checked 》 ignore none 》 Endpoint 》 56.25GB-36bit 》 Run compact 》 iGPU 》 force iGPU to 32-bit Chainload mbr Select Windows 10 from OS selection menu As soon as the Windows logo comes up hotplug eGPU. When OS is about to load up, change display output to Displayport. Voila! Every time you want this do be done automatically, reboot into DIY eGPU Setup 1.35 and hit ENTER (or allow 10s countdown to do it for you) on the default option 2 "automated startup via startup.bat". The Setup: 1. Use paperclip trick to get PSU turned on without motherboard. 2. Two molex connectors from psu to rocketstor 6361a molex connections. To give power to 6361a motherboard. 3. 8 Pin pcie connectors to GPU. And chassis bent to fit RX 480. 4. Modified back of chassis to allow Displayport connection into GPU while GPU can be screwed firm into chassis. Rocking games such as Far Cry 4 @ 4k high settings! Using AMD Crimson WHQL 17.2.1.
  3. Hey guys, I built my eGPU setup with an Akitio thunder 2 and a Zotac gtx 970 a few weeks ago. It worked pretty well, but the fans of the eGPU doesn't change speed, neither under high usage... I heard about zotac firestorm and other drivers that can control the fan´s speed, but I want to keep OS X and don't want to change to windows... So I opened the case checked with a multimeter how high or low the voltage of the fans are, but somehow I touched with both poles of the fans and the whole setup shut down. I rebooted it and the eGPU worked fine, but the fans doesn't move ant all... I disconnected them and powered them separately and they spin! That means that it could only be a software problem. I hope you can help me Severin
  4. iMagic pi mini ITX Case with AKiTiO Thunder2 PCIe Box and GTX1060 mini Dears, I would share with you that idea/project: a custom solution to make inside the iMagic pi mini ITX Case my EGPU powering a MacBook Pro 13" Late 2013. I cannot see something like that and that... and... it is the reason I purchased from Amazon the case below (still not arrived): As first some details and benchmark about my current system, a Macbook Pro 13" Late 2013, i5 with 8Gb of RAM and 256Gb PCIe SSD. - POST UNDER CONSTRUCTION - @reserved.
  5. Hey, guys My sister accidentally deleted some pictures on her cameras sd card (through the camera), and is begging me to recover them, so I thought I'd come here for some suggestions. I've looked online for free recovery apps, and saw that pandora recovery could be a good option, but I realize that there are a lot of utilities for this. Luckily, the sad cards files haven't been modified since, but I am concerned that canon might write over the files during deletion. Thanks in advance for your help. -Zlatin
  6. Hi. I have build 4 egpus stations based on Akitio and 980ti. After eGPU Script i can work with two of them on Sierra. But when I plug 4 of them (no matter if i use two thunderbolt cables(2x2) or one (1x4)) my imac 5k won't boot and it's stuck not even making a startup sound. The same thing with three. Only two gpu's setup works perfect. Can anyone have any idea what can be wrong and how to fix this? Thank You P.S. I have also tried the bootcamp and windows 10 sees all 4 of them but only one is active and renders in octane bench. I have the same problem with booting as in macos, so i have to do it by hot plugging thunderbolt cable.
  7. The tuning process is very slow if one needs to reboot for each modification. Is there a better way? Thanks
  8. Hello, I have just recently bought a eGPU and well, its awesome for games / windows but mac is a completely different story, It works. but the UI lags while switching windows, sliding full screen apps and doing even the most basic tasks.. Is there anyway to fix this? Thank you and have a lovely day! Specs: - Base model Mid 2015 Macbook pro retina 15 inch - Akitio Thunder 2 - 200WAT PSU - GTX 970 - Monitor: Samsung U28D590D 4K monitor
  9. Ok so I do I lot of work on Rhino 3D, Sketchup and too Revit. I also use Maxwell and sometimes VRay for rendering. My current 15" Macbook pro with Iris pro graphics really sucks for this. When I move models around they get laggy and often freeze and crash. I do expect rendering to always take a while. Should I go with the Thunder2 and a GTX 970 with a PSU or would I be fine with the built in AMD R9 m370X of the higher priced macbook. The GTX kills it on benchmarks however the GTX requires a PSU and its hard to take around.... Thanks!

  11. Computer: Mac Pro Desktop (Cylinder) with 12-core Xeon, 64GB Ram, internal AMD FirePro D700 Dual, 1 TB SSD. eGPU: eVGA Nvidio 980 TI, AkiTio Thunder 2, 300W power supply, riser, etc. Running latest El Capitan and installed Windows 10 via Bootcamp prior. Works perfectly in Mac/El Capitan. Windows 10 giving Code 12 for the 980 TI. Purchased @Tech Inferno Fan Setup1.3 (Sorry to hear about the accident Nando4 ). Instructions clearly say needs partition to be MBR/BIOS and I have GPT/UEFI. Also says set BIOS to CSM/Legacy. Decided might be a good opportunity to clean house, so instead of mucking with things I backed up all my data, wiped the drive and did a clean install of El Capitan. During the install it asked me what type of partition. I tried to select MBR, but it told me it could not install El Capitan on an MBR partition, so I'm stuck at GPT again. Questions: Can El Capitan install on an MBR partition on a Mac? I'm not familiar with any way to get into Mac BIOS to change mode to CSM/Legacy - is that possible? If El Capitan and Windows 10 will both work, what's the best method to convert partition? Is there a more preferred way to install Windows 10 for dual boot vs using Boot Camp? Should I be using an earlier version of either OS to make this work, or have both been tested with Setup 1.3? Thank you for reading! I have a shiny new Vive just sitting here collecting dust, and a powerful PC with underpowered video. Sad day.
  12. Ok, so for the past few weeks adter a lot of trial, error and studying up on sites like this, I've been running my Akitio thunder2 chassis with a Nvidia Geoforce GTX 750ti sc in it WITH THE INCLUDED 60WATT AC ADAPTER. Everything was working ok as long as I opened precisionx 16 and ran the card at about 92% power but i would only get about 30-40 fps, when i run it at 100% or crank up the mhz a little bit i get well over 60fps but the card eventually crashes and I get a kernal error. Anyways...to get to the point, I was doing this all on my 2015 retina macbook pro i5, and a few days ago I sold it and used the money to buy a 2011 quadcore mac mini i7 with 16gb of ram (suprisingly much faster and I only paid $600 while I sold the macbook for $950) except for the switch from thunderbolt 2 (on the macbook pro) to thunderbolt 1 (on the mac mini) but I haven't noticed a difference with any kind of bottlenecking or anything yet. Probably because it's only a 2gb gpu. Ok, so when i was out buying the monitor (I went with an acer 23.8 inch) I also bought an asus "pa-1121-28" 125 watt power supply. When i plug this thing in and boot up with my same method it gives me a blue screen with "systerm_service_exception nvlddmkm.sys" before anyone says there's a fix for that, trust me, I already did the driver fix and it didn't work haha, also..like I said, when I plug the 60 watt power supply in, everything works fine. If there was just some way to boot up windows with the 60 watt power supply and then without windows noticing, swap out the 125 watt one everything would probably work fine. I just have no idea what to do or what's going on...why doesn't windows like this psu!? It has a barrel plug just like the included power supply. Any help would be appreciated.By the way, the fan on the gpu spins either much faster or (when it seems to be syncing with the computer) a little bit faster right off of the bat.thanks guys!,BillyEdit: I'm running windows 8.1 pro
  13. I have a I'm Running Windows 10 pro on..... 2011 2.4GHz i7 quadcore Mac Mini with 16GB ram Akitio Thunder2 pcie chassis with a EVGA gtx 750 ti SC (2gb) running over thunderbolt 1 400 watt continuous power EVGA psu with a barrel plug spliced onto an 8pin connector (4 yellow 12v) (4 black grounds) with paperclip trick applied Ok so I have a few different hardware monitoring apps and they all say that my 750 ti is running at .962 volts. That seems to low to me. I even successfully flashed the bios by following this tutorial http://cryptomining-blog.com/1014-how-to-increase-the-geforce-gtx-750-ti-power-target-limit/ I've played around with Msi Afterburner and PrecisionX 16 and nothing helps. I feel like the voltage being so low is the main reason why my gpu is very unpredictable and jumps frame rates like crazy. it will be running for example tom clancy's ranbow 6 siege on everything high @1920 getting over 60fps and then i'll start it up again and it'll be 8fps or something. I just don't know what to do. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks, Bill
  14. Ok, so I am looking to purchase an Akitio Thunder2 to use with my Macbook Pro retina 13 2015 laptop. I am hoping to get an egpu setup created to improve premiere pro render times as well as for a bit of gaming. I have been searching for the expansion boxes in the UK and have now found a supplier: http://www.span.com/product/AKiTiO-Thunderbolt-PCIe-Thunder2-PCIe-Box-T2PC-TIA-AKTU-2x-TB2-1x-PCI-Express-v2-0-x16-FHHL-x4-speed-~50137 but in their product video they specifically mention that mac users will get 'kernel errors' with Quicktime or something. I have never heard of this issue with an EGPU. Is it just them trying to stop people from using it or is it something I need to be wary of? I am technologically inclined so feel confident installing the required patches etc. to get it working out of the box. Could anyone shed some light on this from experience? Many Thanks. PS This is the video where they talk about these kernel errors...@7:50.
  15. Hello everyone, After much searching I can't seem to find a fix to this. I just completely my eGPU set-up with a 780 Ti and an Akitio case for use with Octane in Cinema 4D. Everything is recognized and working well, drivers are up to date, and I am able to render using the Octane plugin. My issue is that the fan speed does not change under load. I checked the card in my PC and it runs perfectly fine, temps are great. Is there a way to set a fan curve from within OSX or is my only option to install Windows? I plan on adding an H80i water cooler eventually, is that how others are bypassing this issue? To have an aftermarket cooler running off of the PSU?
