  1. Recently upgraded to the current bios for my laptop on Lenovo's site. Did something stupid changing settings in the uefi shell and now can't get laptop to boot even to bios. Looking to pay someone to do this today. Would like as much unlocked in the bios as possible. Also need a recovery bios and guide to use it for this model as my current attempts haven't worked.
  2. When my first CPU fan on Y500 is broke i replaced it on something compatible (non-original) and planned to replace it later on original. Since that time happened a lot things, but i still using that non-original fan. But i did some research and here is what i founded: I. ORIGINALS 1. Forcecon (marked as FCN on fan) DFS5413005MH0T-FC1C (5V - 0.5A) Spotted in: Y400, Y500. 2. Asia Vital Components (marked as AVC on fan) BNTA0612R5H-P007 (5V - 0.5A) Spotted in: Y410p, Y500, Y510p. 3. Sunon (marked as SUNON MagLev on fan) MG60120V1-C230-S99 (5V - 2.25W (0.45A)) Spotted in: Y410p, Y500. So, which to choose? Any recomendation? Maybe there also unexpected way (completely diffirent fan from another company for another laptop)?

  4. Hi folks, Greetings from Brazil! Not sure I'm posting in the right place, but I have a question: how do I find out the brand and model of my BIOS chip without having to open my laptop? I can't find this information anywhere. Been searching for days... I have a Lenovo Ideapad 300-15ISK 80RS (motherboard Paris 5A8). Thanks a lot for your time and help! I really appreciate it! Best regards, JC.
  5. The lenovo y510p has no thunderbolt or express card but it does come with their own ultrabay technology by which you can add another graphics card inside a socket which hold in place of the DVD drive once you take it out. Apparently the ultrabay is a pcie 3 implementation. So I was thinking if its possible to DIY eGPU. I think besides the basic setup of eGPU one might need a specialized connector for the Ultrabay. Has anyone done it. Can anyone guide me to DIY?
  6. Can i replace the wifi pcie slot with an adapter for an pcie graphicscard? or is it whitelisted and i have to unlock the bios? if yes then pls a tutorial... thank you
  7. Because I was in need of free USB ports (especially for Bluetooth after Wifi card change) I started DIY work on adding internal USB hub. I wasn't able to found any free USB head on board so I decided to adopt USB-2.0 port on Audio jack board. This was successfull and my Y510p has now 3 more internal USB ports (fourth port is connected out to external USB - except power which is lead directly to allow power-off charging, of course). As usb hub I used mini octopuss hub type, the output cables pretty fitted to free room around HDD and under mPCI slot. On one cable is connected mini bluetooth 4.0 module, on second mini micro-SD reader (for fail-safe and system repair and recovery, including gparted live distro) and one cable is left free, ending just beside mPCI slot. I plan to use it eventually for usb wifi mini-dongle replacing PCI wifi card thus freeing mPCIe slot. The free slot will be then available for PCI riser with external graphics etc. ... If somebody is interested, I'm ready to upload complete and detailed photo story

  9. Did a quick search and didn't notice anyone here using a solid state drive... So, I was wondering if anyone is. If so, share your experiencesǃ I'm using a Crucial M4 SSD which is 512 GB. The first thing I noticed was a great boot time. I can boot from off to my desktop in 35 seconds and all the background apps are loaded within the 40-45 second mark. Now, I'm sure there are faster...but this is the best experience I've had from anything I've ever owned personally before. I haven't tried shaking my computer to the point of disrupting the hard drive...nor do I plan to do it intentionally. However, I was running a transfer the other day and had to walk to the office with my computer running, lest I have to redo two previous hours of work and then wait again. No problems whatsoever. General speeds in running applications have been either faster compared to my last computer, although, I have no specific benchmarking comparisons there. But here are a couple things that I ran on the current Y400 with CrystalDiskMark and SiSoftware Sandra 2013 SP3. CrystalDiskMark (based on 5 tests) Read (MB/s) Sequentialː 518.1 Random 512KBː 438.6 Random 4KBː& 21.81 Random 4KB (QD 32)ː 198.8 Write (MB/s) Sequentialː 261.6 Random 512KBː 263.6 Random 4KBː 71.78 Random 4KB (QD 32)ː 212.3 SiSoftware Sandra 2013 SP3 File System Bandwidth Analysing... 10. Hi all; I'm having some strange problems when booting up my Lenovo Y500 past two days. When I power up the device, screen doesn't turn on as it was before. One way that I able to use the computer is closing the top cover and re-opening it. But before doing this I need to wait around twentyfive seconds until the system boots. If I'm a bit quick and do this top cover trick before the lockscreen appears ( of corse I need to guess every time ) the screen turns on but there is no video on it. This way the screen turns on and everything is normal until I reboot or shotdown the device. For a good understanding I have taken a short video to explane the situation... Edit: Please take a look what I have found last night. Is this the screen cable ? Correct me if I wrong but I'm clearly sure that this thing doesn't have to seen from there... Is there any possibility that these are some kind of hardware problem, not the software one ? I really need your help bros, thanks in advance... ( I'm sorry about my English, thanks for reading )
