Hi all, After I saw this result: http://hwbot.org/submission/2830783_0.0_cpu_frequency_core_i7_4700mq_4550_mhz , I got interested to replicate it with a similar method and decided to share my steps to score higher than a desktop 4.4ghz 4770k (according to cinebench ;)) Intel Stock microcode has a Turbo multiplier bin glitch that allows unlimited multiplier increase, I used prema's bios and removed a cpu microcode update to let the cpu run the stock glitched microcode. I will share the bios file, use it at your own responsibility and if you know what you are doing. 1) Download or dump your BIOS, if your bios is ami (my case) then use AFUWINx64 2) Get AMI Aptio UEFI MMTool v5.0.0.7 and UEFITool, HxD (or your fav hex editor) 3) Open your BIOS image with UEFITool, then File>Search, in our case Haswell has the following ID: , enter C3 06 03 in Hex pattern dialog click OK 4) You can see the last four Hex pattern result, double click the first result and a structure item in the main dialog will be highlighted, right click>Extract as-is to a folder (be sure to be neat and organized or you will mess things up) 5) Do the same with the third result and save it as a diff name other than the first one 6) Now in the folder you have saved the 2 files from step 4&5, open the first one with HxD(any hex editor) and look for be sure to choose Datatype:Hex-values then hit search 7) Press F3 to find again till you reach this pattern(highlighted): 8) (1) Indicates the microcode version, 17 in this case, we want 00 (cpu stock), (2) the platform ID (the search context we reached at) (3) the microcode length = 5000 (in my case) in reverse (important to know when the microcode ends in order to remove). 9) Adjust the cursor on the beginning of the highlight text/microcode (01) right click>Select Block>Length>5000 or whatever in your case 10) Delete the highlighted blocks (after step 9) then save the file 11) Do the same with the second result from step 3 to 10 then save 12) go back to UEFITool, double click the first result like you did in step 4, right click the highlighted structure in the main dialogue > Replace as-is then choose the FIRST file you edited in HxD 13) Double click the third result and follow step 12 with the SECOND file you edited in HxD 14) You will see "Rebuild" in action row, File>Save image as> P15SM04.PM2 in my case (can be any name as long as your flashing tool recognize it) 15) Open AMI Aptio MMTool > Load Image > your modified rom > CPU Patch Tab and verify there is no 06C3 in CPU ID 16) Be brave and flash your BIOS Windows Mod to remove auto update microcode on boot: Click on Start Type CMD in the Search box Right-click on CMD and choose Run as Administrator In the Command Prompt window and change to the directory where the file is located. To do this, use the CD command. You can follow the example below. to change to the Windows\System32 directory you would enter the following command and Press Enter cd \windows\system32 Now use the DEL command to delete the offending file. Type DEL mcupdate_GenuineIntel (and backup) Done! Overclocking: 1) Check CPU MCID:Download AIDA64 , open AIDA64>Motherboard>CPUID and look at IA Brand ID, it should be 00h 2) Download the latest beta Throttlestop (not stable) in my case 810b2 3) Make sure you don't have XTU installed or running (especially at startup) or it will reset any changes in Throttlestop 4) Open throttlestop, click FIVR and look at "[checkbox] Overclock [DIALOG] Max" and note it down 5) Now here is the magic! close FIVR and open it again, [DIALOG] Max value should increase by 2 (up to 80x max ~ 8ghz) everytime you open and close FIVR aslong as long as you increase one of the cores, LOL 6) Increase "Set multiplier" to maximum after your final changes in FVIR (Iv set mine to 42x all cores, so I increased set multiplier to 42 aswell - note voltage ID is messed up ignore it) 7) Increase voltage in FVIR for stability by using cinebench run 3 times instead of prime95, as it stresses FPU which increases heat and tdp instead... 8) Unlock maximum TDP and turbo wattage in TPL, in my case: 9) Done! Changes should be persistent as long as you dont save and exit from BIOS, here is my result in Cinebench with temp throttling (from 4.3 to 3.9 ghz), room temp 25-27 XD: (no.1 at 4.2ghz, no.7 stock latest microcode) UPDATE: OCed RAM from 1600 to 1866, [email protected], +200mV adaptive vcore: I'm also getting 852 with 4.5ghz with this adaptive voltage-like method: Note: You can maintain maximum turbo multiplier bin with latest microcode after setting it in throttlestop (imp: no crash when testing; make sure its stable) then flash the latest microcode for bug fixes (more stable on my side at x45 with only +230mv, depends on your CPU, i7-4800+ will require less voltage), and you will still be able to set the bin high (up to 80x) as long as you don't crash... Post your results and I'll copy it here. Tips: I highly recommend lapping heatsink and use liquid metal thermal paste or any decent tp ( I used collaboratory liquid ultra) before doing this -If your cpu throttles no matter what, try decreasing dynamic voltage in FVIR and look at maximum value the package power indicate while stressing, decrease the value by 10% in order to avoid rapid throttling (happens with bad TP) -Do not attempt the OC if you are looking after long service life wear&tear (I expect 2 years from now if I stress the cpu everyday for an hour, which i never do :P) Happy overclocking, and don't melt your laptop Thanks to Intel if they leaked this on purpose, kinda futureproofed my machine XD P150SM 1.03.05 modded bios (at your own risk): MOD EDIT: link removed, please use a clean BIOS base because of legal implications with Intel :

Hi, maby somebody possible to help me with lenovo z710. Recently i change i3 4000m to i7 4710mq. Two days i7 works well, but for now, i can't load my pc. I was returning my older cpu, but with 4000m but with it, my computer didn’t even try to run. now the computer costs 4710 and sometimes it is possible to go to Bios, but usually the black screen hangs for a long time, and after trying to load OS I get a blue screen

When my first CPU fan on Y500 is broke i replaced it on something compatible (non-original) and planned to replace it later on original. Since that time happened a lot things, but i still using that non-original fan. But i did some research and here is what i founded: I. ORIGINALS 1. Forcecon (marked as FCN on fan) DFS5413005MH0T-FC1C (5V - 0.5A) Spotted in: Y400, Y500. 2. Asia Vital Components (marked as AVC on fan) BNTA0612R5H-P007 (5V - 0.5A) Spotted in: Y410p, Y500, Y510p. 3. Sunon (marked as SUNON MagLev on fan) MG60120V1-C230-S99 (5V - 2.25W (0.45A)) Spotted in: Y410p, Y500. So, which to choose? Any recomendation? Maybe there also unexpected way (completely diffirent fan from another company for another laptop)?

hello everyone, I have a MSI GT683R with a dying (pretty much dead actually) GTX560M in it. I am looking to upgrade it to a new GPU, I have found a AMD Firepro M6100. (I first wanted to upgrade to a GTX970M, but that's too expensive for now... and corona is also making things difficult) I have already ordered a second heatsink to modify because I didn't want to modify the original heatsink it came with. But, my question is. Does it even work in this system? I have heard of people getting it to work in the barebone variant of this system. But I am not sure if it would work in the 'fully loaded' variant. Also, my games are mostly RAM/CPU dependent and I am looking for a little extra power in this system. I have found a I7-2860qm and I want to upgrade to 32GB of RAM, is it possible on this system? the sticker says 'max. 16GB of RAM' But I have feeling it says that due to the limitation of the cpu that's already on this system (I7-2630QM, 16GB RAM max.)

Hi everybody! I am also the owner y510p like many of you! Some time ago I decided to upgrade the CPU, and after a long search found references to authentic information that help you to upgrade to Intel® Core ™ i7-4910MQ Processor (8M Cache, up to 3.90 GHz). Previously, I had a Intel® Core ™ i7-4700MQ Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.40 GHz). I have not conducted specific tests, but on the whole system more responsive. If someone is interested in information about the final performance - write in the comments and I'll try your test. Have you changed your CPU? If you have changed, on what CPU? I wish you all a good day! My setup: GeForce GT 755M SLI Intel® Core ™ i7-4910MQ Processor 16gb RAM (DDR3-1600 Kingston 11-11-11-28) 240gb SSD Kingston SH103S3240G 256gb SSD Transcend TS256GMTS400 (m2)

So with AMD's 8 core Zen processor supposedly being released in January 2017, do you think it will keep up with Intel's latest offerings? And what is the max you'd be willing to pay for it? I've read indications it may be priced around $300 and be competitive with Intel Broadwell-E processors so if that is the case, it may be time for AMD to shine again.

Intel starts sending Kaby Lake Processors to Laptop and Desktop Manufacturers Kaby Lake is the first Intel CPU to break the ‘tick-tock’ cycle, retired this year. Looking ahead, each manufacturing process of Intel will have three cycles to get the maximum performance of each process node in the future. The Intel Kaby Lake will be the third and final 14nm chip, then in 2017, Intel will make the jump to 10nm withCanonlake, then we will remain in lithography of 10nm until 2020 and you can expect a new range of processors every year. Is expected that new CPUs will have a TDP up to 95W and provide native support for several current technologies such as USB 3.1, HDCP 2.2 and Thunderbolt 3. This is an ‘optimization’ CPU, so it will be based on the technology introduced in Broadwell and Skylake, so hopefully new processors won’t a compared to Skylake CPUs launched huge performance leap last year. New CPUs will also be presented in the new Surface tablets in early 2017. Source First details of Intel’s 7th Generation Kaby Lake Core i7-7700K Regarding the specifications of Core i7-7700K, this flagship processor of the company (for that platform) is equipped with four cores with HyperThreading technology, it has a total of 8 logical cores at a base frequency of 3.60 GHz reaching the 4.20 GHz with TurboBoost frequency, far from the 4.00 GHz Base and 4.20 GHz Turbo-Boost of the current Core i7-6700K, although it could be changed as for now we are talking about an engineering sample. The information is supplemented with HD graphics with 24 Execution Unit , 256 KB cache Level 2 (L2) per core, 8MB distributed to the L3 cache, and its launch would take place at the end of the current year, so there is still enough time ahead. Hello All. I have a question: I need to repaste my laptop. To clean the old thermal paste, i went to the pharmacy and bought an acohol solution with 78% alcoohol (highest content they had). However, the same solution is also 2% salicilic acid. There are no other components in the solution (except 20% water). Can i usr it to clean the CPU anyway? Thanks!

Hello, Last week I had tried to change the default processor thermal grease to a Coollaboratory Liquid Metal Pad on my Alienware 18. After carefully applied, I turned on my laptop and I did some load tests (wPrime) to monitor the cpu temps. After some seconds, I heard a noise inside my laptop and it becomes turned off. The next time that I had tried to turn on the laptop, It beeped 5 or 7 times. So, I decided to open the laptop and examine what happened. When I removed the processor I saw that the Liquid Pad had leaked and reached some Die Side Capacitors. So, I removed the Liquid Metal Pad, and as gift it brings to me two capacitors together! I reseated the processor again and I turned on the laptop again. It works fine. I did various tests and it appears to be Ok with exception of Intel Processor Diagnostic Tools that stuck on Reading Cache Size step. I would like to know if these missing capacitors has some importance or cause some issues in case they are missing/damaged. What you recommend? Theres some way to test all components? Can I replace these capacitors for another? If yes, whats the specification? I dont took a picture of cpu, but on the following link I marked the capacitors of red. Very Thanks.

During normal wildstar gameplay my CPU and both GPU's reach 90+ degrees C. This seems abnormally hot to me. Does anyone else have these hot temperatures? Will disabling hyperthreading have a significant effect in cooling down my cpu during load?

Have Clevo P170SM and working music and video production. Processor: Intel core i7 4800mq 2.7GHz with turbo boost up to 3.7GHz x8 (47W), Graphic: Radeon R9 M290X 256BIT 4GB DDR5 (100W) + Intel HD 4600, Memory : 24GB DDR3 1600MHz, SSD 3x Samsung Evo 1tb, and interested for upgrades, so if somebody have experience with GPU NVidia GTX 1070M 8GB (150W): https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/gtx-10-series-mobile-reveal/ and CPU AMD Ryzen 7 1700 (65W) : http://www.trustedreviews.com/amd-ryzen-7-1700-review. Of course I will have to change memory with DDR4-2400, but question is, will the 230 watt power adapter be enough and should I expect some more problems (except money) to do that. Thank's in advance.

EDIT: SOLUTION on my 4th post. Hi all, I just wanted to know if anyone found a fix for the cpu idle bug without hibernating. First of all, I made my setup in 2015 and I just used an external monitor since at the time making it work with optimus having a dgpu was unknown. Recently I read that disabling the dgpu was an option so I quickly got "up to date" reading the new stuff, but I might have missed something. Keeping that in mind: I have a MBPr Late 2013 (GT750M dgpu) with an Akitio Thunder Box, with a dell power supply (which I always thought it might not be enough because I had to limit the power with Afterburner to 80% so it wouldn't shut down when playing a few hours) and an Nvidia GTX970 (KFA 4GB). Since I was using a Win 7 on Bootcamp/BIOS I decided to start from scratch: got a Win 10 EFI installed, got reFind so I could activate the visibility of the Iris igpu, and although it seems to be much more buggy, got to run the system with the egpu. Then disabled the dgpu on the device manager, used the switch-gpu bat file as admin to get the igpu as main, so far so good. Shut down, Boot. I get to the point where I basically have the egpu working and I tried running Tomb Raider's benchmark (what I had at hand) and it was going smoothly (which wouldn't be like that with the iris or dgpu). Also, looking at msi afterburner my egpu was at 100%. The ONLY thing that I can't by any means get to work is to not have the CPU idle crazy load. I get around 25-30% of CPU load and if I try to hibernate the system it... well it goes to hell, haha. The MBP seems to hibernate (sleep/shutdown black, fans out) but the egpu is still on with the fans (doesn't really hibernate), and from there its impossible to make it run. Pressing any button, alt, power, whatever, it tries to wake up/power on for a moment, but it simply can't finish, just black screen with the fans turning on. The only way to shut it down is to hold the power button. And after that it basically locks there and becomes even difficult to boot again, I actually have to press alt, go back to osx, reinstall refind - since it no longer appears with it trying to wake up from hibernation- run windows efi and quickly press shift+f8 to run in safe mode and then boot correctly (and again with the cpu load). I have to say that even when working, my macbook pro doesn't consistently boot with the egpu via thunderbolt2, with any combination (wait to plug the cable, have it powered on, off, preboot, when starting windows, etc.) it just seems to randomly work. It used to work a bit better before refind, though, but never consistently (don't know if that has changed in the past years). So... any ideas of how to get that cpu load off? Or to make hibernation work? Oh, as a note, I read that when you disable the dgpu and use the switchgpu script you can control the screen brightness again, but I just have it locked to the max. The control osd appears and moves but it doesn't actually change. I don't care about it but I thought it might give a hint of something not done properly? Many thanks to whoever can give me any ideas!!! EDIT: Reduced part of the cpu idle from known w10 small stuff but the main bug is still there, about 15%)

So who has one of these and what is your max overclock? I've got mine on an H100i closed loop with 1.26v and 4.5 GHz for 24/7 use. It maxes out at 67C with prime95 or gaming which is pretty good. I've gotten as high as 4.8 GHz on 1.31v but haven't pushed higher yet since temps start creeping up after that point.

Please help ! I Have 150SM-A laptop with PREMAMOD bios. Everything was ok but I hanged CPU and RING voltage to add 100mV and ovveride to 50mV. Now laptop does not boot up only blank screen is present. I tried to reset bios by removing battery from laptop and from motherboard for few minutes. Unfortunatelly after this nothing changed. Laptop switchen on for few seconds then turns of and turns on again in loop. The screen is dark. What can I do ?

Hi all. I have a rMBP 13" 2015 (force touch model), with the following specs: CPU: 2.7GHz Dual Core i5-5257U (specs here: http://ark.intel.com/products/84985/Intel-Core-i5-5257U-Processor-3M-Cache-up-to-3_10-GHz) 8GB DDR3 RAM (on hindsight, should've upgraded to 16, but damn it soldered RAM, I'm stuck with this now. About to give it the eGPU treatment with a GTX1060 6GB (zotac mini, no OC) with the akitio. All components have already been bought, awaiting setup in my free time. I have seen people talking of CPU bottlenecks. My question is, to what extent will my MBP's CPU and RAM bottleneck my gameplay? And does this bottleneck restrict actual frame rates in games, or is it only prevalent in some other types of computing or rendering which is more CPU-dependent? Maybe only in terms of longer loading times–e.g. maps in CS:GO? (which I'm alright with anyways). Correct me if I'm wrong but I had the impression that games and graphics are little affected by the CPU. Thanks! Looking forward to any insights from the more experienced people in here

Update 1 (Sept 19, 2016) : I have fixed my CPU fan issue, I have copied the post about it in the main thread, but do read the posts, a lot of gem in there. EDIT: My GPU fans work perfectly, and never had speed dip or slow ramp up. It keeps the gpu under 75C all time, and under 90C with +250 +300 OC. Hi all, I have a P650SG (Eurocom), and I have been having this weird CPU Fan problem for a long time... The CPU Fan would suddenly stop for no apparent reason (i can hear the fan just suddenly went silent), and it will take around 1-2 second to restart and ramp up to top speed really slow... Also it react to the temp change really really slow... the CPU would jump to 97 degree and throttle, then the fan speed will slowly increase.... Here is the Idle and Load test graph: Idle: Load: In the graph you can see the CPU fan ramp up rather slow, and it have a 4000->0rpm dip when I switched fan profile in Clover Control Center, and a 4000->1000rpm dip when I stopped the benchmark...(it shows dip to 1000rpm, but i think it dipped to 0rpm from what the fan sounds like) I have tried different BIOS and EC, 1.03.04 to 1.05.01, non helped. Right now I'm on Premamod v2, it is not improved. This is really bizarre to me... I don't know what is causing this problem, I did an RMA with eurocom but their inspection shows no problem with the cpu fan... Is the cpu fan failing? or is the power delivery failing? PWM failing? I have no clue now... Please someone point me to the right direction... Thanks. UPDATE1: I have fixed this problem. Just an update in case anyone else have the same problem in the future, this CPU fan problem is because my CPU fan is failing, and also the cooling module is not that good. This is actually quite common, Clevo have a new version of CPU cooling module in P651SG. I bought the newest version of CPU cooling module for P651SG on taobao, changed it on with the 5583 thermal paste(this thing is so much better than my Arctic Silver 5 or MX4), and the problem is gone. The new fan even sounds less aggressive at 100% fan speed. Temp has been very good, stay below 85. I also bought the custom cooling pipe that connect CPU heatsink to GPU heatsink, it is said to lower CPU temps more since the GPU fan will help a little. I didn't bother putting it on since temp is very much improved already. I bought the CPU cooling module for about 40 USD, and the heatpipe 10 bucks, way lower than the quoted price of around 50 CAD for only the fan + 30 bucks shipping I did a couple weeks ago with eurocom. BTW some pic after I changed the CPu cooling module, broken case corner, and applied vinyl skin.

The first processor that can use light to communicate with the external world is the result of a combined effort between Universities of California - Berkeley, MIT and Colorado, Boulder. The new chip, described in a paper published Dec. 24 in the print issue of the journal Nature, marks the next step in the evolution of fiber optic communication technology by integrating into a microprocessor the photonic interconnects, or inputs and outputs (I/O), needed to talk to other chips. Advantages of the new chip: Greater bandwidth with less power (10x - 50x greater than current electrical microprocessors and consumes 1.3 Watts of power to transmit a terabit of data per second). Signal can be transmitted way further without the need of a repeater (1m is approximately the limit for high-speed electrical links). Different wavelengths could be used at the same time to increase data transfer. These adaptations all worked within the parameters of existing microprocessor manufacturing systems, and that it will not be difficult to optimize the components to further improve their chip’s performance. The current research lead to the creation of two new startup companies, one is Ayar Labs (ex OptiBit) where researchers are focusing on photonic interconnects while SiFive is commercializing the RISC-V processors. I have been trying for some time to clock my CPU on my M18xR2 with the 3940XM chip. Nothing I did had any effect what so ever. Since new my core multiplier had never been above x12. I recently discovered that this was down to ‘BD PROSCHOT’ and thermal throttling. As I understand it BD is a heat sensor of some description that I can only assume thinks the temp is too high. My usual core temp at x12 is around 55°C which is not even close to dangerous levels. I have started using Throttle Stop to remove BD and set the max multiplier to 20 after a XTU benchmark test I achieved 2.00 GHz with a max temp of 70°C, which in compared with other benchmarks I have seen is poor and rather warm. As I have a 3.00 GHz CPU it is defiantly on the low and warm side, which lead me to think that perhaps this BD PROCHOT thing was not wrong. I am going to do some investigation into the fans, in the meanwhile does anyone have any advice for me? Thanks Will

In a sad day for the tech world, one of the pioneers of the PC industry and ex-CEO of Intel, Andy Grove, has passed away at the age of 79. As noted by the article on Intel's website, Andy Grove was Intel's first hire in 1979 as company President after Gordon Moore and Andrew Noyce founded the company and then later was CEO in 1987. His legacy includes shifting Intel's focus from memory chips to computer processors helping transition Intel from a company that made $1.9 billion in revenue to $26 billion. Grove played a critical role in the decision to move Intel’s focus from memory chips to microprocessors and led the firm’s transformation into a widely recognized consumer brand. Under his leadership, Intel produced the chips, including the 386 and Pentium, that helped usher in the PC era. The company also increased annual revenues from $1.9 billion to more than $26 billion. Grove was both an astute engineer and a careful student of business management. His books High Output Management (1983) and Only the Paranoid Survive (1999) remain some of the most highly regarded management books. Grove was also active in philanthropy and helped donate towards Parkinson's research as well as donating $26 million to the City College of New York which helped establish the Grove School of Engineering. He was married to his wife Eva for 58 years and is survived by 2 daughters and 8 grandchildren. View full article

I have prema bios v2 on sager p150sm. Anyone with an i7 4700mq have any stable numbers they use for overclocking the CPU. It seems the general consensus around here is to use Intel XTU to overclock the CPU and to not do it in the bios.
