  2. TweakTown just released a new story claiming that NVIDIA rather than AMD will be the one powering Nintendo's new NX console which is scheduled for release in early 2017. More specifically, it was rumored that AMD's new Polaris in combination with an x86 CPU or part of an APU was the brains behind the new NX. Instead, the rumor is that the NX will be utilizing an NVIDIA Tegra SoC that uses the newest Pascal architecture. To add a little more salt to the rumor, Emily Rogers, an online journalist that has supposedly been privy to this sort of information in the past, is now stating the NX is not powered by an x86 architecture but rather a custom design that utilizes "modern chips". She doesn't specify what those "modern chips" are but if you take what TweakTown claims in addition to what she said and Nintendo's history of not chasing after the most powerful hardware, there's some plausibility to all of this. I guess we'll find out soon enough if Nintendo did choose to go with NVIDIA this time around and if so, expect a nice boost to NVIDIA stock if all this turns out to be true. View full article
  3. NVIDIA just sent word that they have created a new "GeForce GTX VR Ready" program where participating hardware partners will produce GeForce GTX equipped systems that will have the NVIDIA approved GeForce GTX VR Ready badge. NVIDIA is doing this in hopes of simplifying the buying process as many consumers aren't aware of the immense GPU power necessary to deliver a quality VR experience. According to NVIDIA, VR demands "seven times the graphics processing power of traditional 3D games and applications". Some of the partners that will be participating in this new program include Alienware, MAINGEAR and MSI with the full list of partners available here. The press release is as follows: View full article

  5. Hi everyone, I have an Alienware M17x with the unlocked A12 BIOS and a GTX 680m installed. For the past few weeks a weird issue started to happen with some programs (specially games) my screen would just start to act weird, ghosting, flickering and shit. I thought it could be somethig with the OS (used windows 7 for a couple years and never formated), so I decided to upgrade to Windows 10. The upgrade ran smoothly (I did a clean install of the OS afterwards and turned the BIOS settings back to the default), by default I was using the integrated graphics card, so far nothing weird was going on. Then I reinstalled the modded nvidia driver (the newest one) and disabled the integrated video card from the BIOS, set the display to PEG and booted up. The issue came back. In the print below it's possible to have an idea about what I'm talking about, if I hover something over the weird grey lines they will either disappear or change locations, the windows also blinks sometimes and some text can appear blurred until I select it. I'm really hoping this is not a physical problem, since I live in a 3rd world country it's really difficult for me to put my hands in a new video card... By any chance has anyone here ran into a similar issue? The problem is definitely with the 680m, because if I switch to the integrated everything runs smootlhy,

  7. Hey guys, be sure to update to the latest Nvidia WHQL drivers, I can confirm they are stable and come without bugs. They are game ready for Forza 6: Apex, which you can download from the Microsoft game store that comes with your windows 8 or 10 software, its 100% free and it's the first game made widely available that uses Dx12. The performance-graphics ratio is pretty killer, old GPU's can manage High-Ultra settings with above 45 FPS all the time and it has adaptive graphics modes which change the graphics quality OTF to maintain the FPS target you set.
  8. These days a lot of the rage is in thin and light notebooks and while that is fine for a lot of people, there is a substantial number of performance enthusiasts (especially found on this website) that want the exact opposite. This group of enthusiast demands the pinnacle of performance built right into the notebook and not a thin and light compromise saddled with an Intel BGA processor and soldered GPU. Well Clevo and Eurocom are listening and Eurocom let us know that they have launched the new Sky DLX7 notebook that is aimed squarely at those aforementioned enthusiasts. But you don't have to be a gamer to want this DTR (desktop replacement) because it will offer the same amount of productivity as any formidable desktop, especially with it's 17.3" display with 4k resolution and 64 GB of DDR4 RAM. It can also support up to 4 active displays thanks to its two mini Display Ports, USB 3.1 and HDMI 2. The Sky DLX7 uses Intel's latest Z170 chipset with socket LGA 1151 which allows it to support the latest 14nm Skylake desktop processors up to the Core i7-6700K that operates at 4 GHz and has a turbo boost of 4.2 GHz. In addition, the CPU can be further overclocked for true high end desktop level performance. For those that like to keep upgrading their notebooks, the Sky DLX7 supports MXM 3.0b graphics cards such as the NVIDIA GTX 980 desktop (full desktop level card in an MXM package) and professional Quadro mobile cards. Unlike many competing notebooks, this DTR won't have trouble keeping itself cool as it features high capacity copper heatsinks and fans to keep things chilled. There doesn't appear to be a shortage of space either as it can support two 9.5 mm HDD or SSD bays and two M.2 SSD PCIe x 4 SATA drives with RAID 0/1/5/10 availability. There's no word on final pricing but given all the power this thing packs, it probably can get pricey very quickly. 11. Not sure where to post this so I just added it to general. I just upgraded my M17X R4 120Hz from 675m to a 980m and I'm having a problem I hope someone here can help me with. To start: It was installed correctly and successfully on Windows 10 (I wanted to start somewhere more certain). Everything worked fine and everything read fine (as far as the graphics card goes). After I was sure everything was working properly, I reverted to Windows 7. As I read, with the current unlocked BIOS A11 (posted on this site) it's capable of running 9xxM series in windows 7. When I installed 7 on this laptop soon after buying it (reformatted old HDD, moved to bay 1, inserted 500GB SSD in bay 0 and installed 7 OS on it) I installed selecting the UEFI option and the drive is in GPT. As mentioned, I have Unlocked A11 BIOS (thank you to the maker on this site!). Anyway, once I reverted to 7 it started to boot up and said it needed to run startup repair. I allowed it and it froze once the bar filled at the bottom. Upon restarting I tried once more.. same thing. I tried to "start normally" and it starts boot looping. I then changed "Load Legacy Option Rom" from disable to enable. This causes the 8 beep post issue immediately upon power on. This problem doesn't exist when this option is disabled. I then utilized the HDMI trick (I made a separate post for this the other day. Connect HDMI out to any screen and it will cause post on the laptop screen [but not on the external device]. Can then immediately disconnect once post has occured and works fine with no error or beeps). This let it boot up and I'm able to get to the desktop and everything works fine. Can even run screen at 120Hz. I ran diagnostics on the card, checked drivers.. everything is reading correctly. This is workable, but far from an ideal solution as I need to have a cable and some kind of HDMI screen available just to boot up every time. I have two option here and I'm hoping someone can provide a little guidance one way or the other. I can either fix the boot looping issue on "Legacy Rom - disabled" (it hangs on classpnp.sys when I try safe mode if that information helps at all). OR, I need to find a way for it to post when "Legacy Rom - enable" without connecting to an HDMI device (just plugging in the cable doesn't work. It has to be connected to something on the other end). For the first, I have tried start up repair and tried repairing using my WIN 7 disc but it doesn't actually pull up the menu. It just shows the windows loading screen and then freezes after a while. For the second I have tried changing different video options in hopes it will post on boot without connecting to an external or tried to find a way to keep the HDMI port active without something being in it. I can make no progress with either of these as I'm unaware exactly what exaclty the selections change. I currently have it set to PEG. Also, I have tried bios reset through removing all power sources and the 2032 CMOS and holding power button 30 seconds. Didn't help. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to ask any questions you have that could assist in ascertaining the source of the problem in either instance. As a last resort, I could go back to 10, but I would really rather not. The R4 (in Dell's words) isn't being tested for compatibility. Many features don't seem to work, and overall I just much prefer 7.
  12. Hi, I have a Macbook Pro Retina 13" (Late 2013) with: - Haswell i5 4258U - 8 GB DDR3-1600 - Iris 5100 iGPU - 256 GB SSD - Thunderbolt 2 I built an eGPU using the Akitio Thunder2 PCIe Box, I tested it with an EVGA GTX 750 Ti SC and it was working perfectly. The card was PCIe powered using a 120W PSU (12V, 10A). All I need is a graphics card powered only by PCI-Express slot. I was thinking about a GTX 950 LP (new models which draw 75W directly from PCIe). In your opinion which one is better? - ASUS GTX950-2G (will it fit in the Akitio?) - ASUS MINI-GTX950-2G - MSI GTX 950 OCV2 - EVGA GTX 950 SC Alternatives: - ASUS Strix GTX 750 Ti with 4GB GDDR5, which will allow games like COD BO3 to run high-res textures, but has less CUDA Cores than GTX 950; - Wait for Nvidia Pascal/AMD Polaris mid-range GPUs

  14. First of all, sorry for my English. I have purchased a graphics card gtx 970m, for my laptop msi GT70 0ND. I get the following error: The PCI \ VEN_10DE & DEV_13D8 & SUBSYS_110C1462 & REV_A1 \ 4 & 31a1af22 & 0 & 0008 device requires more installation. The driver of graphic if I leave that is installed but in shaping the games I get default intel graphics. You can help ?, please Thanks
  15. Hi, I've got a Thinkpad X61 (C2D, 2GB RAM) running Win 7 Pro SP1 to which I'd like to connect my eGPU. I've made my own PCB (MXM <-> mPCIe adapter) so I'm testing it, but I have too many variables for the moment. This is a clean install of Windows. I have an NVIDIA Quadro K610M card and have installed driver package 364.51. I have done the Large Memory DSDT override successfully and conquered error 43 using the PCI dump in Setup 1.30. It detects the GPU fine and initializes it, once I get to Windows everything *seems* to work, but only if I disable my internal Intel GPU (ok for now, I'll fix that later). Device Manager tells me I have a working NVIDIA card. GPU-Z detects it fine as well. The issue I'm having is that I'm not getting anything at all on the VGA port. I realize this very well might be a HW issue, but I'm not convinced yet. I would like to try to use the NVidia Control Panel to verify what's going on, but I can't open it. nvcplui.exe is running in the Task Manager, but I don't get anything else. I read that this is a known issue with no particular fix and I wanted to see what folks here thought, given that this is being used for an eGPU. By the way, the normal "Adjust resolution" dialogue doesn't detect any 2nd screen, but then it seems to be specific to the iGPU (which is listed as the hardware under "Advanced") so it shouldn't work anyway. Is there a way to get the built-in Windows Control Panel to detect / use the new GPU? Any input is appreciated, and further clarification gladly provided. Thanks! Rafael

  20. Hey guys! Earlier this week I upgrade my laptop with a new network card. I bought a Intel WiFi AC 7260 for my Lenovo Y510p. So most of you probably know, Lenovo's BIOS has a whitelist. So I flashed the BIOS so that I could use the new network card. This happened without any problems, I installed the network card and booted my laptop. Drivers worked the moment I logged in and connecting to a network was easy and fast. Checked speedtest.net for the up and down speeds, perfect! There is a problem I encounterd though, it has nothing to do with my BIOS (I think) or my new network card. It has something to do with my GPU's. I run an SLI configuration of 2 x Nvidia GeForce GT755m. (one main, one ultrabay) I was following a guide made by @svl7 about flashing the BIOS. After the part of flashing the BIOS there was something about flashing the vBIOS too, because if you are running 2 GPU's it was not going to work properly. When flashing the vBIOS I encountered the problem. As explained by the guide, I used NVflash to flash vBIOS, when using the command "nvflash -a" to view adapters and their "index" they were on "0" and "1". I tried to flash both of them, "1" flashed easily without any problems, "0" did not flash at all. Now the error displayed was: "ERROR: GPU NOT DETECTED." Has anyone got an idea of how to fix this? I'm not able to flash one of the GPU's. If I play a videogame on my laptop, every now and then (intervals of 1-5 minutes) my screen goes black, audio stutters and comes back to normal after a few seconds. Hope you guys can help me out! If there's any info you need let me know and I'll edit the post!
  21. So I just made the transition from red to green with my R1 and had a slight issue with the new SLI cable. In order to make it work it had to be routed over both GPU heatsinks, whereas the old crossfire cable was designed to fit over the palm rest, making right angles around the heatsinks. I placed some camera lens cleaning cloths between the cable and the heatsinks to provide some separation and just sticky taped them in place. I'm hoping this setup will work. Has anybody else experienced a situation like this? Do you recommend me keeping it this way or should I search for a SLI cable that has the right angles in it to go around the heatsinks? Cheers,
  22. Hi, I installed a new GTX 980M in a M17X R4 but there's no way to get PEG mode working. First I tried to follow instructions from Lee James Wood (who sold me the card), using the stock A12 BIOS but it didn't work. He stated I shouldn't stay on Windows 10 x64 with Optimus mode because it'll cause issues and probably damage my new GTX card because of erroneous temperature readings, so I have to try harder. I tried with an unlocked A11 BIOS and then following J95's instructions: ...but it didn't go. In a different way. By the time I power on the notebook after reinserting the card back, I obtain a black screen and beeps. I tried the procedure step by step, first by setting in the BIOS the mode to PEG and disabling the integrated graphic card. then I tried by setting the mode to PEG and setting the integrated GFX to auto instead of disabling it. No way: always black screen and beeps. Actually the video cards are in SG mode, and nVidia Optimus seems to work right. I'm not enough into video card tech to judge but mr Wood, who's much more expert than I am, told me that using SG mode the dedicated card signal and management go through the integrated GFX; because of this there's the risk the dedicated card isn't correctly managed, especially regarding temperature readings. Nothing wrong except slower performances. Has anyone a piece of advice for me? Has anyone with a similar hardware configuration managed to use PEG mode? And How? It seems there's no other thread regarding this matter, and that I'm not the only one with this problem. Thanks in advance!

  25. Hi all, I finally stopped being a lurker here because now own a Batman 2.0 (P771DM-G) since a week! (Santech rebranded). Great machine, I'd say. It comes with the 970M flavour. What I'm wondering, though, is: IS IT POSSIBLE to raise the G-SYNC refresh rate for games up to the maximum specification of the screen? (possibily without touching VBIOS and such) So far I couldn't bring it beyond 60 Hz in-game. Those are my attempts, so far: - I Created a custom resolution for the screen in the NVIDIA Contorl Panel: 1920x1080 @ 75 Hz - It seems to work (specific websites do recognize the panel refresh at 75-ish Hz) - Activated G-SYNC (for full screen only) in NVIDIA the CP - Disabled Shadowplay (turning it on does the same, btw), just to be sure its 60FPS recording wasn't the limiting factor - Then start a Full Screen game, for example Team Fortress 2 (with all max settings, as like as GeForce experience allows) - Turn V-Sync Off in the game (Turning it On does not change anything in that regard) RESULT: The game is G-SYNC'd at 60 Hz (SIXTY HERTZ), instead of 75. SMH Is there a known and easy way to force max-Refresh Rate under G-SYNC at the real max Refresh of the Panel (75 Hz)?? And by the way here is a mini-review of that baby, showing the "problem" I'm facing: Thanks for any help, TheMacco26 EDIT: wrong Model. It's a P771DM-G.
