  1. Hello everyone, I am an M17X R4 owner running WIN10 AND currently upgrading my laptop from an 7970m to a 970m. I have already successfully transferred my 970m to the motherboard and windows has detected the the gpu in device manager, optimus mode is enabled and the intel graphics are also detected. The laptop is currenlty booting in full UEFI mode and running bios A11 stock. Currently I am experiencing issues with getting the 970m to run, my Intel graphics keep running only but i can see the 970m is installed and the settings can be changed from the nvidia control panel and can be benchmarked using FurMark. I managed to modify an nvidia driver using the device hardware ID's (not sure if that is the issue) but i think the main reason why the 970m is being used is because i require an unlocked Bios to change which GPU it runs on? Everything up until this point has been an interesting learning curve and i feel i have almost cracked it. what do you all think, any advice would be much appreciated by myself and my laptop Im no expert on the matter but if anyone wants any advice from my experiences above i would be happy to help the best i can. Thx
  2. Hello all! Im posting this here in hope to receive some orientation or help regargind my egpu project. I have my old and trusted Acer 5750G and I’m still using it everyday for work. I’m a photographer and it has worked quite well with some upgrades: -Upgraded i5 to i7 2630qm. -Upgraded ram, 8gb to 16 gb. -Upgraded HD to SSD. Some facts: – I have the unlocked bios so I was able to set the mpci port as “hot pluggable” and I can also deactivate the dedicated nvidia 630m from the bios itself. – I have bough this case [PCIe PCI-E EXP GDC External Laptop Video Card Dock / Laptop Docking Station (Mini PCI-E interface Version) ] that will arrive home in 10-15 days. – I have ordered a wifi usb card. I was thinking in getting a nvidia 1060 6gb and plug it to my old laptop using the mpci port. I ask for your advice and knoledge regarding this: 1- Is this a good card choice? 2- Will I face any problem with my setup or there is something important I should take into consideration? 3- Will software that uses CUDA (photoshop and premiere, for example) get reinforced with the new card? 4- How much processing power will get lost for the “small” port I will be using? Thanks a lot again, and sorry for my english mistakes!!

  5. Hi guys, I need some help from you guys if you wouldn't mind. I'm useless Specs:- Samsung RV520 8gb DDR3 I7 2720qm @2.2ghz 1x HDD 500gb 1x HDD 300gb Nvidia GTX 650 Ti BOOST EXP GDC BEAST 8.5c DIY Setup 1.3 DELL 220w PSU After a lot of messing around I have managed to get this egpu to work when downgrading to 2gb, Which makes me think I just need to change my TOLUD to get it to work. I have read and tried to make a successful DSDT file however I don't really know what I'm doing with these driver edits and haven't been able to get it to work particularly the error fixing on compiling the dsdt. However When I did have it working on 2gb ram. I ran heaven Bench, The GTX 650 under load makes strange noises and crashes the display driver multiple times. Could any of you more knowledgeable individuals give me a hand please Thanks
  6. Hello My M18XR2 was working on Windows 10 with a 880M. Last week, I reinstalled my system, and I couldn't get nvidia driver working... I took the last installed modified driver, and even downloaded latest version, modified it again, nothing to do, I have same error : nvidia installation failed. I only install the graphic driver too, it fail. The screen goes black, then light again, and it fail... Do someone have an idea how to fix this probleme ? Thank you
  7. Hello! I have joined the forums some time ago to learn about modding drivers for laptops and thanks to the community here I was able to upgrade my Dell M6700 with a GTX880m. This time I am stuck on a couple of GPU issues that seem to be corresponding to each other. Let me go through these things below. I have upgraded the M6700 with a GTX970m - OS is working fine, all everyday tasks going great and by replacing the 880m with a newer card I gained some power and lowered the temperature of the system. In order to install drivers for this 970m (the other card too) I had to modify "nvdmi.inf" file and trick the driver installator to think, that my laptop was an Alienware. I have figured that out by trial and error. However, strange issues happen since the new card arrived: - first of all, no matter which new driver is getting installed, after OS restart and some time, the screen flashes and comes back on - when going to NVIDIA Control Panel it shows that the driver installed is v.353.54 - it just changes the driver version as if it was stored somewhere in the OS. Of course each time I am performing a clean install with DDU - secondly, from time to time when powered on, all I can see is a blurred image of the Windows' welcome screen, as if the resolution was changed to a super-low setting - a reset helps with that - finally, the outcome of all this is that I can't run any game on the laptop for longer than 10-15 minutes. I have recently purchased Divinity 2 and it runs on its "ultra" settings, but the laptop just dies after a quarter and powers itself off, followed by a screen flash Now I know that these might be various things in my system, but I have a feeling that it is GPU related and there might be something wrong with the drivers as previously (on the 880m) I was able to run games for as long as desired. And yes, I have already tried monitoring the temperatures, lowering in-game settings and even underclocking my CPU (i7 3940XM) - the CPU gets a bit hot if you ask me - up to around 90 degrees, but other than that, all seems fine. Help!
  8. I'm looking at finally upgrading my m17x from its old 7970m to a 980m, but the person I contacted to buy the card from warned me that the 980m requires a 200W power supply, and win10 (I'm still on 7, but I can upgrade easily enough, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem). I have read that the 7970m only required 100W, so I have no idea if my laptop would even be able to power the 980m or whether this would just be a waste of several hundred pounds. Can anyone clarify? Also, I have read on here that installing a new card in an m17x require you to manually update the video drivers, but I'm afraid that I'm not quite sure what that means, exactly - would I need to rely on kindly users on here to keep uploading new modded versions of the video drivers in perpetuity, or is it just that I need to somehow tweak the installation on new drivers in future?

    GTX 970M over clocking

Got a Alienware 17 R3 with GTX 970 M. Trying to overclock the GPU and need to download a VBIOS. Tried to download the file: Nvidia GTX 970m - 'OC edition' rev0.zip 1.0.0 from techinferno site but it would not let me. Can anyone point out a site that can get me going? Thx
  11. setup i have:asus x54c,Nvida geforce gtx660,psu corsair cx600, dock i use: exp gdc v8.4d note:(originally the notebook had intel celeron b815 processor, i replaced it with pentium b970,and added 2gb of ram other than that no other hardware changes were made) first time i connected it all and powered on,gpu fans started spinnig very fast and screen was on but all black and nothing happened so i tried the delay switch but with the same result, then i connected external monitor to the gpu, finally i was able to see manufacturer logo, but then it hanged on windows loading screen(back then i had windows 7 so you could clearly see the windows logo animation stopped) so i tried to hotplug the egpu by booting with original wifi card in (mpcie) sleeping then plugging the egpu in and resuming, but always i did so i was greeted with instant crash so i went searching for answers on the internet and i learned that i should isolate pin 22 so i did, finally i was able to boot into windows (with delay set on maximum) but the card wasnt detected, i purchased setup 1.35,installed windows 10 bios (i had windows 7 uefi) but i couldn´t get it recognized even in there. im sure all the componnents are fine, i got it sucesfully runing on my older laptop (lenovo u350) thanks for all the help in advance

  18. Hi all, I have a macbook pro 15 inch retina mid-2015. I joined a Aikitio thunder2 with a graphics card GTX 1070 but there are problems with the internal monitor of my macbook. first of all we will list the specific to this topic. my macbook is equipped with two graphics cards, an integrated and a dedicated, integrated is an intel iris pro graphics while one dedicated is an amd radeon r9 m370x 2 GB gddr5, and obviously the eGPU GTX 1070. the problem is that with the external monitor connected via hdmi to egpu doesn't show any problem while using the internal monitor that should take the video signal from the thunderbolt has lagged. Mafia 3 with settings on external monitor turn 54 fps while on internal monitor turn 9 fps!!! i have windows 10 on bootcamp. There is not much difference and it occurs to me that the problem is the thunderbolt. members of tech hell please help me!
  19. I have Lenovo e540 with an EXP GDC Beast 8.4d and a GTX 660. The nvidia display driver crashes with a black screen for a few seconds when launching some games or when the egpu is used for a while, it sometimes will recover My external power supply is 350W and the card has a power consumption of 140W so I do not think this is a power issue. "Event 4101 Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." What I have tried: A GTS450 instead of the GTX 660. Setting the PCIe port to Gen 1 in egpu setup. Setting the PCIe port to Gen 2 in egpu setup. Setting the Nvidia power management to maximize performance in the Nvidia control panel. Going back to the driver version 327.23, I got a blue screen instead of a crash when using this version. Disabling HDMI audio in the Nvidia control panel. Any suggestions or advice on this issue? Thank you
  20. Specs: Windows 7 Lenovo w510 12 g ddr3 ram intel i7 Q720 @1.6ghz discreet card: Nvidia Quadro Fx 880M egpu setup: GTx 960 card hooked up via exp-gdc v8 dock via pci express card Using dell 220w psu (12v, 18Amp) Using an external monitor hooked to 960 via hdmi The Problem: Drivers successfully installed, device manager shows GTX 960 and shows it functioning properly. However, no external monitor can be detected. Aditionally, when installing the 960 drivers, it broke the 880M (shows up as error code 43 in device manager iirc). So currently I'm stuck with crappy display on the internal monitor (internal graphics? even though I don't have intel integrated graphics..) and no external monitor detected. I read in the FAQ section that trying to get a dgpu and egpu from nvidia to work is about getting them to run on the same drivers, but it was not clear at all about how to go about doing that. Plus the cards are so far apart in age I'm not sure how to even begin to go about trying to find a drive that will run both. What I have done so far: Disabled pci power managment, this allowed the egpu to be sucessfully detected. Showed up in device manager as "generic vga device" or something like that. Downloaded and installed appropriate nvidia drivers for 960, restarted computer. Computer running on crappy internal(?) graphics card (cant even display full screen resolution) , error for dgpu in device manager (error only goes away after uninstalling 960 drivers and reinstalling dgpu drivers), 960 shown as working fine. Disabled dgpu in device manager (I don't have the option to in the bios for some strange reason, screen shot attached), restarted. Upon restart device manager shows 960 working fine, however, no external monitor detected and computer internal dsiplay still running on crappy internal(?) graphics card (cant even display full screen resolution). Any help would be much appreciated. I feel like I should be pretty close since the egpu was detected and is shown as running ok in the device manager...

  24. Well, after my ZBook died because of faulty bios (hardware related) and it had a K4100M (OC) with HP vBios, i wanted it to be on my old 8770w, but it just gave me no screen output (laptop screen) only on VGA (didn't test on DP cuz i got no DP Monitor nor cable) and i liked how the K4100M had better performance than the K4000M (Well the oc made the bandwidth go from the original 102 GB/s, to 200 GB/s [Not stable at all in some games like Rust, or Heavy iray rendering] vs the K4000M 89 GB/s [BTW I couldn't find any SAFE way to oc it] So I decided to make some research and testing,, Long ago before I started searching on how to do this change of gpu i found out that people had 980m in their 8770w and also k5100m without any errors, just by modifying the drivers, i tried so and failed. This is my laptop Specs: HP EliteBook 8770w Quadro K4000M Intel i7 3820mq 2x500GB WD Blue (Only ones i had around empty in my inventory) 20GB of ram (I know its not "correct" but i used 3x4GB and 1x8GB RAM sticks) 1080p Screen Non-Dreamcolor Windows 10 Pro 64 Bits - Creators Update (Btw im in Insider Program) Notes: This laptop has no Optimus support as far as i know, I havent tested on more vbios, only on 1 OC Dell Vbios I didnt test video output on DP, Beacuse i have no DP Monitor nor a cable, and i dont need it, at all. The laptop didnt give any video on integrated screen, only on vga with OC HP vbios and aswell Original (Backed up) vbios, only with the Dell vbios made successful output to laptop screen. There was video going on at VGA without nvidia drivers, if i installed the drivers the screen had artifacts like random colors then the laptop freezes and shutdowns with errors, even with dell vbios. GPU temp was higher than usual, even when it wasn't on high load. I was able to run Besiege at 5 fps without a driver (Only with Microsoft Display adapter). So by some hours of testing this were the results: I replaced the K4000M with the K4100M, I used windows recovery thing at startup (since the nVidia drivers from K4000M bugged the hell out the screen output) then I selected the CMD option, did cd to the folder where i had nvflash, flashed my gpu from there, with a OCed DELL vbios, (link), and then restarted my laptop, I was so excited because i made it make video output through the laptop screen, and then i loaded windows normally and the drivers started to bug the screen and then windows crashed after 4m every time i logged to windows (even without logging in), it said Video tcp failure (or something) and Watchdog_DPC_violation, So i used a fresh windows install (from a HDD i had around), it did give 1080p video output to laptop screen and i didnt test anything at all, so then installed Normal Nvidia drivers (from nvidia not hp neither dell) and then it started to bug again, And well, Then i tried using Ubuntu (17) and the screen give 1080p output without problems, i was going to install nvidia drivers but it was too difficult for the short time i had to test, so i didn't finished up testing with Ubuntu, As some dude told me at other forums that it might be an Optimus driver bug or something, so later on ill try testing with modified drivers. Also the GPU temp was high, i didn't check out the temp, but the laptop was too hot for normal use and used too much battery life (i found out when i was playing around with Ubuntu at my couch). And months before, I found out that in Nvidia page it said that the K4100M worked only on Haswell Generation (4th gen), and not Ivy Bridge, now it says that supports Shark Bay, which is kinda new, since that "option" wasn't there before. This is what ill do next time i make another test: I'll use another vbios a not OC one, just a normal one, Modify nVidia Drivers to try removing optimus (if posible) Finish testing up in Ubuntu Try to use older Drivers to see if anything happens. Post the pics of the Artifacts and a video of besiege running with Default video Driver
  25. There is not much difference and it occurs to me that the problem is the thunderbolt. members of tech inferno please help me!
