nVidia 980ti flash to Titan X?

I own a Gigabyte G1 Gaming Edition of nVidia's massive new 980ti GPU. It's a great card as-is but I do love to tinker and I'm aware that it uses the same core (GM200 I believe) as the new Titan X GPU, the only difference aside from the 6gb GDDR5 RAM versus the Titan's 12GB is that some of the CUDA cores are disabled on the 980ti, giving it 2,816 active cores instead of the full 3,072 on the Titan X. I'm curious if it would be possible to flash a 980ti so it thinks it's a Titan X and would therefore use that additional block of previously disabled cores. I remember it was once very easy to do this with, say, the old ATI Radeon cards - one could buy a certain relatively cheap card, flash it to something better that used the same core, and even bolt on a better cooling fan, overclock, and that's all it would take to build a way stronger rig for a bargain price. Those were the days, right! I'm sure there are safeguards in place now to make this more difficult because companies like nVidia don't like to lose money, and that difference in amount of video RAM might require a "hybrid" modded VBIOS, but do you think it could be done? What obstacles would have to be overcome? Where might I start in researching this further?

Dishonored

This game has gotten pretty high reviews and deservedly so because I just finished it (high chaos, evil ending) and I loved every minute of playing it. I'm not the type to finish SP games either, I usually get bored and quit (e.g. Skyrim, Witcher 2 etc) but this game kept me intrigued the entire time which says a lot about it. The rune system worked really well and the relationship you build with the characters in the game determines how everything will play out. I hope they make a sequel to this because I think this game is up there with the Half Life series in how fun it is. Some spoilers: My biggest complaint with the Crossfire 7970M (12.8 WHQL driver) is that the UE3 streaming textures causes a lot of hitches. I heard this problem was mainly with AMD cards but I'll investigate further when my 680M SLI cards get here on Tuesday. I played the game with max settings in game with SSAO + enhanced AA enabled in the AMD control panel. Framerate was generally 60+ the entire time except for parts where the texture streaming took place (mainly during the beginning of a level) and it would cause hitching. My overall rating for the game: Fun factor: 10/10 Gameplay/Controls: 9/10 Replayability: 9/10 (multiple endings) Graphics: 8.5/10 Sound/Music: 9/10 Reviews: Metacritic overall: 91 IGN: 92 PC Gamer: 92 Gamespot: 90 Gamespy: 90 Edge Magazine: 90 Game Informer: 88

Nvidia Grid for 3D work

Reading about this news NVIDIA I was wondering if in the future can become a solution to overcome the lack of external interfaces for eGPU. Right now Nvidia cloud GPU appear to be limited for gaming (only Nvidia hardware as client) but curios if anyone tested a GPU cloud service provider using not just a game but a 3D application.

Alienware M15X project computer

hey guys, new to the forums here. so yesterday i traded my Xbox one (i actually bought it for 99 cents last year) for a co workers Alienware m15x, its got the core i7 820qm, 8gb ram, no hard drive (i threw a 500gb sshd in and imaged it) it had a gt 240m (i put a gtx 470m in it). the laptop is kinda beat up and will need a new bottom (like $15 on eBay) but i got the gtx 470m and the laptop for my xbox one so i dont think it was a bad deal. i installed the gtx 470m yesterday and it wasnt taking the card so i created a DOS bootable thumb drive and upgraded the bios. And presto she fired right up. i couldnt find the drivers for the card anywhere and the nvidia ones wouldnt work, so i used one of those driver utilities to find the drivers (the program seemed sketchy but it worked). so now i have the right drivers and everything however the card is running really slow, 50mhz clock speed, 135mhz memory clock. so thats where im at, im currently moving so i will wait on ordering the parts but i plan to get all new casing and a new keyboard. i tried msi afterburner and i cant adjust the clock speed on the card at all so im considering selling the gtx 470m since dell doesnt support it and getting a gtx 460m. I'll try and post some pictures later on tonight, luckily this isnt my main laptop so i can take my time on it (i use an Alienware 17 r5 as my main) anyways, any help with the upgrade would be hugely appreciated, and let me know of any other upgrades i should do to the laptop.
5. When I run 3D vantage and play Battlefield Hardline, the applications close if I have my PhysX set to GPU. If I move it to CPU it works properly.. Why is this so? Thanks in advance!
6. So officially the Asus Maximus V Formula doesn't support Tri-SLI, just Tri-CrossfireX and SLI (2-way). The reason I guess is due to nvidia not being able to officially utilize 4x speeds (e.g. it does 8 x 8). The extreme version of the Maximus V supports tri-sli but that's about $400+ for that board. One way around it is to use a program called HyperSLI it's a simple install and click program. Just make sure you have a processor that has VT-X (although software emulation is also possible) and 2 mini bridges + 1 long bridge to connect the 3 cards. In my case, I connected 3 GTX 680 cards (2 680 SC signature 2 + 1 680 SC, all EVGA). It doesn't seem like the lack of bandwidth is hurting the performance too much in games or benchmarks on a single monitor at 2560 x 1440. 7. ...Hi all. I felt i must post this info. Today i installed windows 10 preview again here on my P370SM. 680M sli.I wanted to try out a driver that "Cyris" posted on a guru 3d forum. (349.72) here is the forum : windows 10 directx driver 349.65 windows update - Page 3 - Guru3D.com Forums . here is the driver i downloaded : 349.65-desktop-win10-64bit-international-beta . It worked ok. When i came to set the nvidia control panel to my preferred settings there was the option for "DSR" I tried it and it seemed to work.I have not used DSR before but i defiantly felt that it was working. BTW i had to add my gpu hardware id the "nv_dispiwu.inf" file. Cheers! : )
8. Picked up a couple EVGA GTX 980 SC's with ACX 2.0 coolers and compared to the Titans that they are replacing, the temperatures are WAY better (Maxwell ftw) as is the operating frequency. It's pretty awesome how far NVIDIA has taken 28nm and they aren't done yet as the big Maxwell (GM200) will probably arrive in 2 months in the form of Titan 2 and then probably GTX 1080i in June or so (I'll probably grab that). Anyhow, I added a side fan to the computer door to help exhaust heat since these are open air coolers and therefore dump heat into the case. Temps and OC are fantastic as I mentioned, with my OC so far hitting 1520 MHz on stock voltage and max temps being 75C and 63C respectively. These cards idle at 40C and 34C each so I'm really happy about that. I'll probably do a run of 3DMark in a few minutes just to see how they do but I'm not a hardcore benchmarker, I prefer to test the results of my overclock in games I actually play and then crank their settings up and see how much an OC benefits me. Here's my setup: Benchmarks: 3DMark GTX Titan SC SLI vs 980 SC SLI (980s are on STOCK voltage):Result Stock vbios. +130 core (1571 MHz core/1853 MHz memory), +12mv voltage, 120% Temps never got above 69C on GPU 1, second card barley hit 60C. My 3DMark run: 19155

Watch Dogs stutter

Hi all, Been playing Watch Dogs crazily lately, though it is more frequently coming up with stutters and sometimes even crashes the game, saying that NVidia display drivers crashed. Running the game on MSI GT70 on Win8 with 8gb RAM and stock GTX680m using NVidia recommended settings. Game running of SSD. Kinda new to PC gaming, so looking for advice on PC / GPU performance mods or even game config settings. Thanks
11. A new OS X 10.9.5 update has just been released. If you are going to update to the latest version, you will loose compatibility with the old OS X NVIDIA web driver. Do the following to re-enable your driver with the new update and new NVDIA web driver.1. Update to 10.9.5 2. Download and install NVIDIA Cuda 6.5.18 here http://us.download.nvidia.com/Mac/Qu...4.01.03f01.pkg You will not be able to install the web driver because it will not recognize your hardware; [EDIT] this step can be skipped if you downloaded a modded package. Follow the steps here on how to skip the hardware verification
12. Hi, I am new here but I have been reading the forums for a while. I have just got up the nerve to do my own eGPU. I am very confused about some things. I will ask them to clarify them even though I have read through the forums. I just cant seem to pin down with confidence that I know what I need to know. So here goes. My system is: Dell XPS L502x 1080p monitor 8gb Ram, 1TB HDD, Bluray Drive HDMI, mPCIe slot (which I think houses my intel wireless a/n/g/a/b dual band card), and mini-display port and 2- USB 3.0 ports, Card reader Nvidia Geforce 525m discrete gpu with intel hd3000 integrated gpu Intel i7 2670 qm 2.2 up to 3.1 ghz quad core processor--So here is my question: I have a gtx760 gpu to use for the egpu I will be ordering this to adapt the mpcie PE4L V2.1b + PE4L-PM060A and I have a 520 watt insignia pc power supply to power it. Now will these components work with my set up? Is this everything I need? I really do not know what I am doing here but I do everything myself so Im determined to do this as well. I think with the help of the genius minds I have been following on this forum I can do this. You people are very smart and helpful. Please let me know if I am totally off base with this set up. Thanks!

M18x fails post

Hi guys, I've got an R1 M18x, and I've just swapped out two 6990m for a pair of 780m. I flashed the BIOS to unlocked A05 before I swapped and the change seemed to go well...until I tried turning it on. Screen black, and all I'm getting is two short beeps. I've taken the ram out, swapped the order etc but to no avail. Any idea what the issue could be? Thanks for any help, Mark.

15. Hey guys, recently came upon something that I thought I would share for others out there with the same issue.... Basically, I've had my eGPU setup for months and most of the games I play have been working perfectly (DX11, 1080p, 60+ fps). Some of these games include WoW, Bad Company 2, and other fairly recent titles. However, some older games have not worked properly this whole time. Those included CoD2/4/5 in particular. Even on 1600x900, no AA, etc I was struggling to maintain a stable 20+ FPS which confused me because they are less demanding than the other games that ran perfectly fine at max settings. Anyway, I seem to have finally tracked down the problem and it seems to be limited to the Call of Duty games I listed running off an eGPU setup. To investigate this problem, I went into the Nvidia control panel and noticed the Physx configuration was set to auto select, with my Core i5 and 650Ti both visible. I manually set it to the 650Ti and viola! All my CoD games running perfectly maxed out @ 1080p! I figured autoselect was the better option thinking the software would choose which option is better in terms of performance but it seems you will get better performance overall if you manually specify to only use the eGPU for Physx. My $0.02.

Lenovo Y410p - Nvidia Optimus

I was wondering if the Y410p supports optimus technology ? I heard it just switches to the iGPU when on battery and the nvidia gpu when connected ?
17. Like the subject title says, would you be interested in an article from Tech|Inferno that details purchasing and installing a 780M SLI in an Alienware M18x? We have old benchmark results with the 680M SLI + 7970M Crossfire which we could compare to it as well. Let us know!
18. Hi there! My friend has a Packard Bell EasyNote TV44-HC notebook with a Nvidia GT630m 2GB graphics card (renamed 540m). The problem is that no matter what he do, if its temperature reaches 80 celsius degrees (before the BIOS update it was 75C), the GPU frquency drops somewhere to 230Mhz, and after it's cooled down to 70C, it raises back to 663Mhz (or 760Mhz [turbo boost I presume] or something like this), what is obviously not good. So the question is, how can I manually set a normal frequency (like 533 or something near it) to prevent the 80C throttle and to get a balanced performance? Or is there any solution to raise the throttle cap to 85C? In Nvidia inspector, the GPU frequency has been greyed out, so I can't set it to any value. I can't set the FAN speed manually higher, because there is no software that can see the FAN. So after some Furmarking, it fixes to 270 Mhz, and won't go anywhere until I shut down the notebook, and get out the battery for a minute. Please help. Furmark's performance fluctuacion and nvidia inspector problem can be seen on the attached screenshot. Thank you in advance.

20. I was unsure of which section to post this on, but I think this is where it might get the most visibility so here it goes. I really need help with this. Laptop Problems by jfp555 If it does not embed properly, here is the link: Laptop Problems - Video Dailymotion Is there a solution to this problem? The laptop seems to be working just fine and boots into windows and I can even make out the display, use the mouse, shutdown, but obviously it is unusable. Specs are: C2D T5850 4 gb ram 8600m GT Win 7 The fault seems to be hardware based. not software. Much thanks in advance.

23. Got my backplates in today from EVGA, they are $20 each so the cost isn't too bad and they have pads on the back of them so they actually assist with memory cooling. I touched the back of them after a gaming session and they did get pretty toasty so that tells me they are working. Just make sure you have good circulation in the case to keep air flowing over them to remove the heat build up. My system still needs additional fans for optimal cooling. Here's some pics:

Nvidia GTX Titan SLI

Nvidia GTX Titan SLI or as @Brian says "Damn you Conkers!" So there it is, the real successor of the GTX580 chip, how much rumour was out there over the months. Nvidia broke my resistance, I had to buy at least one card. I managed to get two of those beasts, I know the price is ridiculous but for a triple display setup it's totally worth it. The cards are working in my Xigmatek case along with the GTX670, which is now dedicated to Physx. At the time Intel will release Haswell processors, I'll move the cards in a smaller case with an mATX board. My Xigmatek Elysium case is reserved for another project, which I will show to you at a later date, maybe by the end of this week or next week. 25. Ok so I'm curious about everyone's views with regards to these two GPU manufacturers. Specifically, I'm interested in which you prefer (or if you're neutral state why). Criteria to consider: Driver quality Features Game developer support and compatiblity Hardware (reliability) Cost My pick: nVidia but they are far from perfect too. My reasons: 1. nVidia clearly has better drivers. This is especially true with SLi but even with single GPU, they have drivers that are more consistent in games and applications across the board. 2. Features: nVidia again dominates. Physx, CUDA (which I use for encoding), 3D support (will talk about this later), FXAA etc. 3. Game dev support: nVidia has their "The Way Its Mean to Be Played" game developer support program that the end user clearly benefits from with day 1 driver support from some of the latest AAA titles. This is especially true with regards to SLi profiles. 4. HW reliablity: this is where nVidia takes a hit. Traditionally, they seem to break down easier than their AMD counterpart. Furthermore, there are throttling schemes put in place via software by nVidia and ODMs like Dell for certain systems (e.g. M17x-R3 with its 78C throttle point) that make using these cards a headache at times. 5. AMD again wins most of the time with cheaper video cards and at least 80-90% of the performance of nVidia. With regards to 3D support, its currently broken for mobile systems. Whenever someone connects their nVidia card to an external monitor/TV thats 3D capable, it displays some message about the hardware being for internal testing. This is a known issue that nVidia has ignored and not addressed--definitely a poor showing. Aside from that, I think nVidia has done a stellar job with their mobility and desktop range. The performance is top notch, SLi scales perfectly and their drivers are nearly flawless.
