  1. The overclocking community is abuzz with discussions about a post on Overclock.net that introduces a tool called "nvflashk." This tool claims to enable users to flash custom BIOSes onto NVIDIA GPUs, even the latest 4xxx series, including Founders Edition cards. It's a topic that has caught the attention of many tech enthusiasts, but it also comes with its share of skepticism and concerns. The original post on Overclock.net expresses concerns about transparency and proper credit regarding the software release. The author highlights the potential consequences of the release and the broader context of graphics card flashing and rebranding. It's clear that the community values open communication to address these issues. On Techpowerup.com there's a discussion about creating an nvflash downloader/patcher for Linux. The emphasis here is on the distribution of patch files rather than the nvflash software itself. This reflects concerns about the longevity and accessibility of the project, suggesting the need for multiple hosting options and open-source code. Reddit's overclocking community provides a practical solution. A user, who happens to be a software engineer, has patched the latest version of nvflash to support specialized BIOS flashing on GPUs. They've shared their work on GitHub along with a video demonstration, offering a valuable resource for those interested in this technology. In the world of GPU overclocking and BIOS modification, it's essential to balance innovation with caution. While nvflashk opens up exciting possibilities, it's crucial to approach it with care, keeping in mind the insights and concerns shared by the overclocking community.
  2. I've been playing this game the last month and having a blast! My favorite class right now is medic (surprise surprise) using a P90. Sometimes I'll switch to an M200 sniper when I want to chill and pop off heads. What's your favorite class to play? Some videos of mine: 1. 2. 3.

  4. Hi, I have an old Dell Alienware M17R3 (2011 built, “new”A12 Bios). Back in 2014 my GTX580M broke, so I decided to put in a GTX680M, which lasted till recently. Now I’m stuck again with 8 beeps and the LCD not turning on. When I remove the card and switch the laptop on, the LCD at least turns on, so I guess it’s a faulty GTX680M. Now...back then people suggested not to go for a GTX580M due to bad thermal values, but as I’m not really using the Laptop for gaming anymore, wouldn’t a GTX480M possibly be a better alternative that lasts even longer? I heard that GTX700M’s could fit in as well, but people reported non fixable sound issues plus thermal issues. Any ideas?
  5. Hello to all can you help me change the graphics card? Alienware m17x r4 i7 3610qm quadro k4100m display 120hz 3d bios a15 trying to install 980m but not getting 5 or 8 beeps removed the battery and reset the bios. disabled legacy and secure boot in settings windows 10 gpt uefi help how to be?
  6. I got a msi ge60 2pf Apache pro & its specs : Processor-i7 4710MQ Ram-16GB VGA- GTX 860M 2GB Maxwell Could anyone tell me the best overclock that I could use on this GPU? Please keep in mind that the voltage cannot be changed as this is a laptop Thank you
  7. Who can help me with modding and getting my 980M working? I replaced the M6100 that was originally in the laptop with a 980M but I can't seem to get it to work. I keep getting Code 43 the Hardware ID : PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D7&SUBSYS_15CD1028 I heard i need to modify and INF file but i have no experience with it The vBIOS is from MSI
  8. does anyone know why a vbios file 8mb in size for nvidia k80 , myu backup bios is only 256kb
  9. I have recently upgraded my laptop(an M6800 firepro 6100) and replaced it with an GTX 980m. Nvidia says that the latest driver(461) supports my card but i can only install up to 388.13 Ive tried to mod it but i can't figure it out. I can run the latest linux driver tho
  10. I have spent a little time in the past few days looking around this site. I would love for someone to point me in the right direction to a forum that has information that could help me out with my problem. I have a: Alienware M17XR3 Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Intel I7-2820QM 2.3 Bios InsydeH20 Version 1.0 A12 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M (4x) 4 GB Ram samsung 2.5" 256 SSD (SATA3.0Gbps) It has been an amazing machine for the last 10+ years. Minor issues, nothing that an Alien Respawn could not fix, till now! On battery power it works just perfect. Then I plug it in and it's all OK until I try to do anything, and then the screen goes white. The screen sometimes goes yellow, sometimes blue, but mostly white screen. It will do nothing until I do a hard reset (holding the power button till it turns off and turn it back on) with the power unplugged. If the power is not unplugged then it will go through boot up to windows swirling dots then go white again. If I plug it in and do nothing I can charge it, unplug and continue what i was doing. I have tried a lot of solutions bouncing around the internet, and thought I was having a DC Jack connection issue (replaced the ac/dc power adapter, then the motherboard). I get a better connection now but with the same white screen result. I stumbled into this forum and I'm hoping to find solutions to my issues. Then upgrade like so many others have. Any ideas, comments or suggestions welcome. Thank you in advance!
  11. I have tried to update nvidia drivers of my notebook ge72vr6rf apache pro. The only drivers that works are the ones provided by the msi. The problem is that they haven't updated those since 2016 and I can't play newer games. Some say you need to mod your 1060 drivers, which I have no idea how to some says you need to update the flags in ini files. So please help me Thanks for your time.
  12. Following the release of NVIDIAs new 436.02 driver which I mentioned in an earlier article here, I've decided to make a quick and dirty video showing off NVIDIAs new Sharpen filter which is part of their Game Filter feature. It works with the most popular APIs including DX 9, 11, 12 and Vulkan and can be set on a per-game basis with granular settings of 0-100 unlike AMDs RIS which is limited to Navi and lacks DX 11 support. 14. Well that didn't take long for NVIDIA to respond to Navi. The new 436.02 Game Ready Driver adds the following features: Game Ready Provides increased performance and the optimal gaming experience for Apex Legends, Battlefield V, Forza Horizon 4, Strange Brigade, and World War Z Gaming Technology Adds Beta support for GPU Integer Scaling Adds Beta support for Ultra-Low Latency Mode Adds support for new Freestyle Sharpen Filter Adds support for new G-SYNC compatible monitors Driver release notes: https://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/436.02/436.02-win10-win8-win7-release-notes.pdf This isn't the old max pre-rendered frames setting, its supposedly a new improved algorithm that matches AMDs anti-lag feature for Navi. Next up is support for integer scaling which Intel recently announced but it seems NVIDIA beat everyone to the punch. Unfortunately, this is only for Turing for now: Additionally NVIDIA has created a new filter for FreeStyle simply called "Sharpen" which improves performance and visual clarity that is supposed to be on par with RSI but with much broader support and granular adjustment. According to Eurogamer, "They also point out that the amount of sharpening can be adjusted from 0 to 100 per cent, applied on a per-game basis and works with games across all major graphics APIs: DX9, DX11, DX12 and Vulkan". Finally, the driver brings with it some game performance improvement, including very popular titles like Apex Legends which sees up to 23% boost at 1080p: Overall a pretty solid release, it had some issues earlier when it was released with GeForce Experience being force installed but it should be remedied by now. 15. Hi there guys, I've been looking into getting a new GPU for my laptop (4-lane PCI-e) and enclosure (HP Omen Enclosure) but I cannot decided between the RX 5700 XT and the RTX 2070 (non SUPER). I did some price to performance calculations (higher is better) with some of the best prices I can currently get in the UK. The RX 5700 XT does perform better and is cheaper than the RTX 2070 (Although the 2070 does come with 2 games) but my main concern is drivers and from what I've heard NVIDIA cards work a lot better with eGPUs than AMD. If anyone has experience using both red & green or if anyone else has any other input i'd love to hear your experiences and input. Thanks.
  16. Hello everyone, some time by now I flashed a custom Vbios (thank you Klem) on an Acer Predator 15 G9-591 and I started doing some tests about how far I could go overclocking the gtx 970m without running too hot. With the voltage up to 1150mV and something like 300 additional MHz for the core clock, in the strongest stress condition for both Gpu and Cpu ( i7-6700hq undervolted), the Gpu reaches a max temp of 85C (with some 86 spikes but never more than that). Considering that soon I'm going to relid both Cpu and Gpu and clean everything in the internals (laptop is 4 years old) I think I'm going to have some additional heatroom. I've already tested some further overclocking and I noticed that even if the temperatures remains under 93C (which is just for testing purposes, but after relidding temps could be nicer) graphical glitches occur and after some time most games crash. But my question is, could it be because of lack of power supply? The laptop charger provides 180W Could there be an increase in overclock margins with a 230W psu or something like that? (Obviously with the same 19.5V output) If anybody tried something like that on any laptop model, or knows the matter, I'd like to know
  17. After spending significant time and effort to obtain "DC" screen for 8770w (which is essentially a regular IPS panel with fancy board that converts 8bpc LVDS to 10bpc DP), I have finally got and installed one. All works great, except of the one problem... It has pretty bad banding / posterization in lower shadows. I have tried profiling it in different modes (full range, sRGB, rec709) - issue persists, and it indeed shows only in the lowest part of the characteristic curve. Mids and highlights are represented fine and show low deviation from reference values. GPU is HP K4000M, Nvidia drivers installed "as it is", video-card is identified without a hitch. Banding was not present with the original TN panel using the same GPU. While checking a software side, I have noticed that Win10 has bit depth set to 8-bit... My initial reaction was, - "Easy, let's change it in `nvidia-settings` and we're all set": ...but that would be too easy, right? After selecting 10bpc and clicking "Apply" screen went off and back on, only to show that depth stayed at 8bpc. Repeating the above few times yielded exactly the same result and I'm not in a hurry to meet a cliched (and laymen) definition of insanity. Let's check GPU-Z. So far so good, nothing unusual. Notice the highlighted BIOS version and subvendor string: Time to delve into other tabs. We are running WDDDM v2.4 which supports GPU dithering, but hey... BIOS version has changed! Briefly back to `nvidia-settings` to check what is reported by vendor's own utility: So far, we have two strings for BIOS version: 80.04.5A.00.02 (let's call it an "A") 80.4.33.0.37 (let's call it a "B") Notice how 2nd one seems to not follow hexademical notation. Lastly, "NVIDIA BIOS" drop-down, reports "A" version: ...and monitor section which confirms that rig is indeed capable of 10bpc, but currently running at mere 8bpc: Windows "Adapter settings", reports version "B". It's 2019, diversity is a must. "NVidia inspector" is of the same opinion: Now, let's use some seriously legit tools and check-in exported BIOS file in `nvflash`: Here we have two three interesting findings: Reported vendor is Dell, not an HP. See this link for details. BIOS version is back to "A". Have I already mentioned diversity? MXM module uses MX25L2005 flash storage in WSON-8 packaging. If things go real nasty, we should be able to rescue a patient via Pomona clip and external programmer. Loading the same file in "Kepler BIOS tweaker" confirms the facts: EDID settings, courtesy of NVidia Control Panel. Hex dump can be found at the bottom of this post. ...Shall I be worried about "60.02Hz" refresh rate? To summarize: Why two different BIOS versions are reported? Anything to do with UEFI (e.g. HP is sideloading its own during boot)?.. Why two different vendors reported? As far as I remember, this is branded HP GPU. Where to get "clean" BIOS of K4000M for future experiments? Ideally from 8770w equipped with "DreamColor" panel from a factory. 18. Hi guys, bit of a rookie to the whole EGPU scene. Currently I have: - MacBook Pro 2015 13inch (3.1GHz Core i7 16GB RAM) - Razer X Core - Apple TB3 to TB2 Adapter - TB2 Cable (Cable Matters) - 23inch AOC External Monitor I am wonder about what graphics card to get to run X-Plane11 with high graphic settings? I have purgewrangler set up and ready to use with an AMD graphics card, but am also open to the idea of an Nvidia graphics card. Any advice appreciated. I did not buy a Windows PC as I need a Mac for various other things and wanted an all-in-one laptop.
  19. I got the exp gdc beast 8.5 got all the connections right... laptop boots up... fans turn on the gpu.... device manager detects gtx 1060 with a “ ! “ in a yellow triangle. 20. Hello all I have a Clevo P370EM3 laptop with a pair of GTX 680Ms in SLI mode and have never been able to get Linux to work properly with full acceleration and without tearing. I have tried every xorg config I can find, and even all the modifications from the nvidia configurator to no avail. Has anyone been able to get these things to work 100% in Linux? I have typically used ubuntu based distros, including Mint, and every available driver version from the repositories, but can never get it to work quite right. Thanks for any help anyone can provide. It is killing me to run Windows on this machine because of these issues, and I am almost to the point of installing the inferior 7970 cards. Have a great day -TCH
  21. Help! I created a BOS BOOT DISK and use legacy to boot in DOS. But it is saying that "An operating system wasn't found". I have extracted all the files (the alienware m18x r2 a11 unlocked bios) into my external hard drive (format: NTFS)
  22. Wlc, I want to create an afermarket diy cooling solution for my laptop.
  23. The new leak of NVFlash version 5.513.0 with their new RTX GPU (Turing) support is now available in our download section. This includes support for NVIDIA's new RTX 2080 Ti, 2080 and 2070 desktop GPUs. As always, use caution when reading/writing vbios files as you can potentially brick your card and void your warranty. 24. The computer I used was '' Lenovo Y510P ''. There is a '' Nvidia GT755M [SLI] '' as a display card. I have tried both ways of downloading the video card driver from both GeForce Experience and Nvidia driver site. Both kinds of graphics cards are starting to update. Later, the 'graphic driver is installed' part of the screen goes and never comes again. I can not enter Windows when I turn off the computer. I have to take format from scratch. After formatting, Windows automatically loads a graphics card driver in 2017, trying to update the driver again, it stays black on the screen again. I have to format again. With DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) program, I deleted the old video card driver and updated it again. But I met the same problem. I communicated with Nvidia and stated that I had such a problem. They asked me not to install the 388.13 video card driver. That graphics card driver has been loaded without any problems. But I have the same problem with all the video card drivers out there. NOTE: This problem only happens on Windows 10. I can update the display board without any problems in operating systems like Windows 8,8.1. NOTE: I have been having this problem for about 2 months, before I could update my display card in Windows 10 without a problem. The driver I am currently using is: 388.13
