  1. Hey everyone After notebookreview was gone (RIP) I believe that I am in the right hands here.. I have one gaming clevo P775TM1-G with original i7-8700 and gtx 1060 (Latest Unlocked stock bios) more then two years now... only what i changed was the display to 1080p 60hz non Gsynch time ago for better color representation.... but unfortunately the graphics card is dying now...could not find any cheap for now but i have almost new clevo non Gsynch gtx 970m MXM3.0B 6gb on my hands.... would use the 970M for now as lightweight gamer and creator....The card itself fitted well but of course the heatsink not....luckily i found a cheap (35€) Clevo P775DM heatsink in good condition that fitted perfectly.... The clevo started into bios and the 970M was detected like the 1060 so i tought everything was fine until i getting blackscreen after bios i can hear that he boots to login screen...i can hear my custom startup sound...but that was all..of course i unistalled the drivers from 1060 before and the panel i have is also non gsynch so i tought it should work otherwise i need a different bios or vbios i think would be glad if someone can help me out of this Best regards
  2. Hello, I am new on this forum, so I am sorry if posting at the wrong place. It's been 2 weeks that I am searching how to make my GTX 980M 8GB working Inside my Alienware 17 R1 (June 2014, i7 4710MQ, 60 Herts Display, OPTIMUS and the GTX 880M Inside died.) After "quickly" looking some forums, I saw that a 980M would easily fit Inside … but maybe I was wrong. Hardware wasn't a problem. I've also could install drivers by modding the nvdmi or nvcvi. inf files. The card was recognied BUT : the clock speed is locked a 135 or 405 Mherts and fan is not runing when booted up. I tried to flash vBios with nvflash and some ROM I found on vBios collection … but no way to get this working properly. So, i'm coming here. I've seen many people talking about Prema or svl7 or other big boss in the place … but ? how ? where ? when ? Inside the peripherial manager I have this in remote acces path : PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1617&SUBSYS_05AA1028&REV_A1\4&D590A51&0&0008 So I assume my GTX 980M card ID is 1617 and vendor and PC Model are 05AA 1028. But near the "Standard Microsoft Video Card" there is a yellow exclamation point and Inside details it says "this peripherial doesn't work properly" when no Nvidia drivers installed. I could find some vBios with 1617 (Asus) but black screen at boot up. Since laptop model where not the same .. probably. And I wasn't able to find 1617 with the existing 05AA 1028 … as the GTX 980M was not an option for my model. (AW 17 R1 2014 ,60Herts) I tried 353.60, 382.33 and 419.35 drivers. The latest one seems easier to install but longer. BIOS is A16 from Dell. And I am using Windows 10. Got a Dell 330W brick. I saw a guy with the exact model as me, he gets a modded vBios especially for his configuration, then everything worked easily … but can't find the topic again I guess depending on the card info and the laptop model … a dedicated vBios is required … So, If anyone here got some informations or any kind of help for me, it would be very nice. Thanks for reading and help. PS: there are a lot of files, pictures and links that I can't see on this forum .. even after registration ….
  3. I have recently upgraded my laptop(an M6800 firepro 6100) and replaced it with an GTX 980m. Nvidia says that the latest driver(461) supports my card but i can only install up to 388.13 Ive tried to mod it but i can't figure it out. I can run the latest linux driver tho
  4. While searching for the solution to my various problems I began wondering if there were any other motherboards that will fit into my gt70 case (or any another msi case for that matter) What are the physical differences between the various models of msi motherboards and how many are swappable/compatible? Is an msi Frankenstein possible?
  5. Hi Everybody, I am the owner of a HP elitbook 8770W, an old but still very decent notebook. I've upgraded the GPU several times , first with a GTX 970M and a while later with a GTX 1070 mobile. I've bought those cards from pretty reliable sources (a seller on Ali I know pretty well) and I knew beforehand that the cards were compatible with my 8770w. Unfortunately, my 1070 broke down due to heating issues. Now I can get my hands on a Quadro P5200. The original ones don't have a EEPROM chip soldered on the board, and rely on the notebook VBIOS. However, the one I want has a BIOS chip soldered on the board with a HP max-q bios, which would be perfect for me. Well, if it's compatible of course. The seller cannot give me a statisfactory answer to that and I'm not sure they are willing to refund me if this is not the case. Now on to my concrete questions: Does the build-in notebook VBIOS matter if there is a chip with a bios on the mxm card itself? If it does matter, since my notebook does recognize other pascal cards like the 1070 and 1080, is it wild to assume that a P5200 will also be recognized? They all seem to have a 86.04.x.x.x BIOS. Is there any way to check the notebook VBIOS compatibility against the one on the card? Thank you in advance!
  6. Hello everybody, I have a Clevo W870CU laptop with a Core i7-720QM processor and an AMD/ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870. Since the graphics card is pretty old I thought about upgrading it. Does anybody know which MXM modules are compatible with this laptop? Thanks a lot, Alexander
  7. I recently got a 2010 27" iMac for free! Some further research concluded that the MXM slot in the iMac has been proven to work with a GTX 880m, including Mac OS! I used to play with a 7970 ghz edition, but ended up selling it for some more projects. I've been lagging along on a 5870 2gb and thought that with my switch to the free iMac, I might as well update my gpu. Heres the problem I was faced with: the 880m is a little underpowered on stock clocks. So, after even more research I discovered that the 980m was around the same as a 7970 performance wise. I ended up grabbing a deal on an 880m for only 160$, but I did want to share my findings with you guys. *WARNING* ONLY 2009, 2010, AND 2011 IMACS HAVE THE MXM SLOT!!!! IF YOU ARE USING A 2012+ YOU CANNOT UPGRADE YOUR GPU So the 980m used to work all the way up to mac os sierra. It's now high sierra, but the fix is still pretty simple. What you will need: -thermal pads -copper ram heatsinks/ one of the specialized backplates that cools MXM memory modules. -Your graphics card -YOU NEED an imac 2011 gpu heatsink -GOOD thermal paste (Preferably liquid metal if youre comfortable with that) -IMAC 2010 power supply *As far as i know the power supply's between these 3 imac's are interchangeable, but the largest one is the 2010 variant, at the 310 watts, and the others are much lower. *Just from tdp we know that the 980m is 115w and the cpu's on these guys are most commonly 95w, thats allready 200 with out hdd, all the other components etc. -nvidia web drivers READ THE FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY Step 1: You must have all your mac os/ windows partitions set up with bootcamp, and MAKE SURE it boots into Mac OS and wont boot into anything else when you start it up AFTER the upgrade. *Remember nvidia web drivers must be installed before you upgrae Step 2: dremel/ cnc/ remove a couple parts of the VRM section of the imac 2011 heatsink, (You want your card IN HAND so you are able to make sure it fits correctly. step 3: Assemble the gpu assembly step 4: Re assemble the imac, with the new gpu. *This is where is gets slightly harder* step 5: You want to reset your iMac's System Management Controller, otherwise known as SMC. *DO NOT FLASH NVRAM OR PRAM, or you will have to redo the whole process, after you put your old gpu in to fix all the bootcamp problems and such *You can do this by plugging the power cord into your imac, waiting 30 seconds and NOT turning it on, unplug your power cord, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Wait another 30 seconds, then turn it on. (But not before reading the following to be prepared:) step 6: You need to force Mac OS to work with an unsupported card. this is a pretty simple process if you are comfortable with terminal. * I couldn't have found this without this page: https://www.ifixit.com/Story/18646/Successful_iMac_Upgrade_to_GTX_880M " To make a non-apple provided Nvidia graphics card work in macOS Sierra you need to do the following… Start the computer in safe mode by holding shift. Get your BoardID by running this command in terminal echo "<result>$(ioreg -rd1 -c IOPlatformExpertDevice | awk -F'["|"]' '/board-id/{print $4}')</result>" Open the AppleGraphicsControl Kext using this command sudo nano /System/Library/Extensions/AppleGraphicsControl.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleGraphicsDevicePolicy.kext/Contents/Info.plist Use the arrow keys to go down until you see <key>ConfigMap</key> followed by a bunch of keys and strings. LOOK FOR YOUR BOARD ID… IF IT IS LISTED: Change the string to <string>none</string> IF IT IS NOT LISTED: Add it in the same format as the ones listed. Save the file by pressing Ctrl+O, then enter. Exit by pressing Ctrl+X Rebuild the kernel cache using the following two commands: sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel AND sudo kextcache -system-caches Have Fun! Theoretically this should work, and I would love for somebody to try as I got an 880m instead. Just keep in mind this is all from research and has not been proven to work. Be sure to research this subject before you try it.
  8. Hi All! First thread poste here! Very happy with my beast ..again! m18x R2 on modded bios (SG mode needed, optimus mode igfx+dGpu) So my msi 1060 from alezka.com (Woodzstack thank you) was arrived yesterday, fast, very well packaged , and with a bit of icdiamond7. Removed (not very well..buyed and used a dremel for first time) the tiny metal square on heatsink , that touch ram on 1060. put thermal pads everywhere to match heatsink space. Absolutely do not tight or strengt too much the gpu because has on his backside a big squared capacitator that push on motherboard Here 3dmark11 to start benching msi1060 (stock clocks) + 3920xm(4.2Ghz) on m18xR2 . http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/12179815 Score 13581 GraphicScore 14934 Physics 10877 CombinedScore 10396 Max GPU temp 71° (at 24° t.amb). Superposition benchmark GPU max temp 72° Now I'm start to look if performance is aligned with other 1060's powered laptops. All suggestion are very welcome! Bye All!
  9. I'd like to know if anyone thinks its possible for an m1000m mxm card to work in a Dell Optiplex 9020 AIO. It has an mxm-a slot for an old AMD Radeon HD 8750A in it. It is rated for 45W max, while the m1000m is only 40W so I didn't see an issue with power. If I put one in that was flashed with a Dell vBios would it work? Or am I oversimplifying things?
  10. so my old G75VW is needing some upgrades, i have a bunch of options: Motherboard swap using a G75VX motherboard with thunderbolt to get a thunderbolt port + akitio thunder2 Using some mad casemodding skills to fit a GTX880M + heatsink(from a G750), vbios mod(some help needed) Exp gdc maybe with a GTX 1070 or 1060 Sell it and buy a clevo or alienware

    MSI GT70 MXM Card

Hello, The GTX 670m card in my GT70 0NC is defect. I would like to replace it by a low cost one. Could you please tell me which one I can buy. It's necessary to flash the bios/vbios? In my country, i can buy some cheap ATI card. Many thanks
  12. Sup everybody A few months back, I bought an Alienware GTX 780m to replace my ASUS GTX 460m that was in my ASUS G53JW laptop. I had zero knowledge or experience, but thanks to all the guides you wrote, the card immediately worked after flashing an ASUS GTX 780m vbios onto it. The fans were controlled, and my graphics performed many times better than it did before. The only issue was that HDMI stopped working. At the time, I didn't need HDMI, but now I do. Can you help me out?
  13. Hi all- At risk of creating yet another error 43 thread, I have a few questions or issues that I haven't been able to resolve following all the various guides and tutorials. I have a Quadro K610M in a custom PCB connected to my Thinkpad X61 running Windows 10 x64. I know that the PCB has some issues, but I've accidentally gotten further than this before and now lost that progress. I've done so far: - DSDT override to achieve Large Memory works, this solved Error 12 (on the other hand, what drive is "v:" where I should put the DSDT.AML? Startup.bat can't ever find it...) - Setup 1.3 for PCI compaction, I set it to 56.25GB and then said compact both iGPU and eGPU into 32-bits. I've tried various other combinations without success. - Using driver 362.13, the installation went fine. For the life of me I can't figure out what to do differently, I've reinstalled the driver with DDU several times to the same effect. Anyone have particular suggestions? Thanks in advance! Rafael
  14. I finally summoned up the nerve to crack open my laptop for the first time ever, besides the back panel. I was an a mission to put new thermal paste on my cpu and gpu and I thank the Council of Cosmic Ministers I did. The GPU core had bleached the heatsink and needed thermal paste really bad, I'm glad I stopped playing the Witcher 3 when I did. @_@ Onto the point, I had the pleasure of learning the CPU was upgradable as well as the GPU being MXM upgradable, it would be great if that were better advertised. I'm just interested in the GPU the i7 3630qm seems fine. I'm looking at other asus mxm cards and it looks like the only one that may fit is the GTX 670m which is significantly weaker. This [URL="http://www.ebay.com/itm/For-ASUS-G750JZ-MXM-Video-Card-60NB04M0-VG1020-nVIDIA-GTX-880M-GDDR5-100-tested-/201466062129?hash=item2ee8502531:g:wAsAAOSwvt1WRJ-3"]GTX 880m will fit the socket, but may not line up all the way with the screw sockets. I'm sure I could rig it in there, but I was interested in if anyone has any experience with this. I'm just eyeballing the G75VW and G750 motherboards, it will fit but the screws don't all line up. There are also external GPU adapters like this [URL="http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Q4VMLF6/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=MLJR7I40QP9I&coliid=I14D9TK3EVTC7B"]EXP GDC PCI-E Adapter for hooking up a full sized GPU, has anyone done this? The PCI-E port is internal, so I would have to deal with that. I've considered overclocking as well. I get the basic +135 from Inspector and that seems noticeable. I've been through several threads and can't really understand what I'm supposed to do to overclock it further... What type of performance boost are you looking at with an extreme overclock? My GPU isn't going over 68'c with a load on it, I can push it a little more.
