  1. Does anyone have experience with this? Some threads I've seen have done it on a 17 inch laptop, I was wondering if it was possible on the 15 inch version as well. What issues will I face? I read about having to have a custom BIOS and vBIOS..but also HDMI/audio issues. I guess I should also upgrade my CPU, which runs really hot (i7 4800MQ), but not sure another Haswell chip will run any cooler. I've used liquid metal and even that hasn't changed temperatures much, it still reaches 93C pretty easily.
  2. I have a Clevo P170EM with a GTX680m from 2012 and it's starting to show weight of the years I would like to squeeze little more performance out this "outdated" GPU. Can someone help me ?
  3. Just recently puchased a Clevo Gtx 780m on ebay and inserted it into my Alienware m17x r4. I'm terrible dissapointed to find the BIOS a12 unlocked and device mananger doesn't detect it at all. Are there some steps I have to undergo to make it work?

  5. Hi people. I looking for unlocked vbios for gtx670mx clevo for overclocking my old p370em. I find vbios on this site - kepler bios mod but i can't download it. No access. Maybe whose help me please download for me only OC vbios 670mx. Thanks
  6. Hi guys, I need some help from you guys if you wouldn't mind. I'm useless Specs:- Samsung RV520 8gb DDR3 I7 2720qm @2.2ghz 1x HDD 500gb 1x HDD 300gb Nvidia GTX 650 Ti BOOST EXP GDC BEAST 8.5c DIY Setup 1.3 DELL 220w PSU After a lot of messing around I have managed to get this egpu to work when downgrading to 2gb, Which makes me think I just need to change my TOLUD to get it to work. I have read and tried to make a successful DSDT file however I don't really know what I'm doing with these driver edits and haven't been able to get it to work particularly the error fixing on compiling the dsdt. However When I did have it working on 2gb ram. I ran heaven Bench, The GTX 650 under load makes strange noises and crashes the display driver multiple times. Could any of you more knowledgeable individuals give me a hand please Thanks
  7. I sent my laptop (MSI GT60-0ND) to check up and the video card was confirmed dead, I learned that I can upgrade my GPU, but I can't take a step without any help. Many told me its risky and the market is tight. http://www.compeve.com/video-cards/mobile/pny-nvidia-geforce-gtx-680m-2gb-mxm-video-card-89v00664-m ^I found this card, GTX 680M, and it looks absolutely the same one as (GTX 675M) and the slot is compatible, however due to reviews, the 680M is way faster than my previous one, if that poses any threat. If someone can check it for me and tell me whether its good or not, I'd appreciate it.
  8. Hello everyone! Well, I have Fujitsu AH532 witch EXP GDC, Win10 and Setup 1.3 (for enabling gen.2 port on EC and disabling dGPU) My new card doesn't want to start in DOS (or setup) and Windows. It works only after I put my notebook to sleep and resume it from that. But after resuming I don't have 1.2 OPT, only 1.1. Do you know what to do in this case? I forgot to say that if I try to do it in plug-and-play way, the fans are either spinning to fast like on full speed or too slow.
  9. Hi, i have some questions about my laptop compatibilty for a egpu laptp specs: Intel Core i7-6500U CPU @ 2.50GHz Intel HD Graphics 520 8 GB RAM DDR3 1600 MHz so the first question i have, is possible adapt a desktop graphic card to this laptop? i see in this forum about similar models can do it, but what you do think about? ---------- the wifi adapter is a Intel AC 3165 wich is connected to a NGFF port of the laptop, so i will need the NGFF version of the EXP GDC adapter... i am correct in this??? -------- im think get a GTX 1070 or a 1060, the bandwhich of the NGFF port, and the cpu of my laptop have power enougth to use the 1070 or i'll be better a samller graphic card? --------- other question is what i need to change in the bios to enable correctly the eGPU? your help be useful to me thanks pd: sorry for my bad english :/
  10. Hello all, I am new to this forum so I apologize in advance if this question is in the wrong place or has already answered elsewhere. I am thinking about setting up my 13 inch mid 2012 non-retina MacBook Pro with an eGPU. I considering an EVGA GeForce GTX 1060, similar to this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487267 I am also considering an AKiTiO Thunder2 PCIe box since it is not too expensive: http://a.co/7TsdwNH I know I will need an power supply of some sort as well but am not sure what I want to get yet since I am new to all of this (any suggestions are welcome). So, my main question is, with the GTX 1060 fit in the Thunder2 box without modification? I also request that if anyone knows of a cheaper thunderbolt 2 box out there please let me know. I would like to set up this GPU as cost effectively as possible. Thank you in advance for your help!
  11. While searching for the solution to my various problems I began wondering if there were any other motherboards that will fit into my gt70 case (or any another msi case for that matter) What are the physical differences between the various models of msi motherboards and how many are swappable/compatible? Is an msi Frankenstein possible?
  12. Hi all, I'm looking to sell a PE4L V2.1b (Expresscard Version) and GTX750. I have used them both reliably on my Thinkpad X230t, achieving x1.2Opt and able to run pretty much any game decently well, for the past year without any issues. This setup works great as a portable setup since the GTX750 doesn't require external power. I recently bought a desktop so I have no further need for them. Here is a link to the graphics card. I'm looking to sell the PE4L for $60 (got it for $70) and the GTX750 for $70 (got it for $90) or $120 for both, with a flat rate of $5 for shipping. Here's a picture of my previous setup that I was running off the eGPU. If you have any questions or want more pictures of the parts, please PM me! Thanks!
  13. Hi, Long time member and even longer a lurker. I've modded and OC'ed various GPU's using the vbios' shared in the forums, however I'm having problem with the 970M 3gb, which I've gathered recently from ebay. I hope it hasn't been asked a zillion times. I bought a 970M 3gb model which goes by the model name MS-1W0J1, and been trying to get it working on an Alienware M18x r2. I've successfully installed the card and it seemed to work plug and play. The card is recognised by BIOS and I get video output in startup menus, both in EFI and LEGACY modes(I'm using Swick's latest bios for this model). However, there seems to be a problem when installing the Geforce drivers(both 380&390) in Windows 10, as the screen goes black instantly when the driver has been updated. I can't get any video output in Windows, and the only option is to switch to integrated card and remove the drivers. I've seen different mods and modded vbios' for 970M cards, but none seems to be for the 3gb model. I wonder if there is a way to set-up this card on this hardware and flash a compatible CLEVO vbios to get it running without issues. Current vBIOS is attached. Thanks in advance, Wejgomi GM204.rom
  14. hi guys, excuse my bad English!i got some trouble with my alienware, i got a m17x R4 with gtx 880m (last owner swapped the video card) for a time and this week i just format with windows 10, and i can't install the video driver(nvidia), can someone help me? i got the A12 Bios downloaded from the Dell support page and a 3D 120Ghz 1080p screen and again excuse my bad english ty guys1
  15. Here is my first attempt of doing building an e-GPU. What I wanted to do : Due to the fact that having a Razer Core is a pain in the *** and because it's a 7Kg not so portable solution, I decided to build myself my own e-GPU using an Akitio Thunder2 casing for the latest Intel NUC6i7KYK “Skull Canyon”. I also wanted not to change the power connector of the casing. Costs : Akitio Thunder2 : 211.45€ Thunderbolt3 to Thunderbolt2/1 adapter : 95.19€ Dell DA-2 Power Supply : 27€ ZOTAC GTX 1060 6GB : 320€ (174mm x 111.15mm) The Plan : The steps : 1\ Cut the DELL DA-2 cable properly to expose the 8 wires. 2\ Solder all GROUND together as well as all 12V together. 3\ Solder the 2 obtained wires to a 5.5x2.1mm barrel. 4\ Solder two thick wire from the barrel to the top back of the casing (15cm). 5\ Split the two wires into a 6 PIN MOLEX connector. 6\ Cut a 110mm hole inside the casing. 7\ Fix a fan/dust protection. How it works : Great ! Not so much test so far but pretty stable playing the latest DOOM. 2560x1080, HIGH settings with V-SYNC ON :60fps 2560x1080, HIGH settings with V-SYNC OFF : 90fps Next steps : Figure out if there is a difference in performance using the Akitio TB3 prototype. 16. With NVIDIA having now officially launched their next generation Pascal based GTX 1070 and 1080 GPUs, there are a number of AIB partner boards coming to the market soon. We have a video today by YouTuber Actually Hardcore Overclocking that examines different custom PCBs and helps break down the differences between the various boards and their power delivery designs. If you've read about additional power phases that will be available on AIB cards that are lacking in Founder's Edition but never quite knew what that meant, this video should help. View full article
  17. 3dMark11 Performance Preset Benchmark: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/11262792 Required items: 1.) Lenovo u310 (I have a Core i3 - Ivy Bridge, 8GB RAM) 2.) 65CN99WW unwhitelisted. 3.) eGPU (I used a EVGA GTX 750 Ti from another computer I had). 4.) EXP GDC mPCIe Edition adapter (got from eBay - banggood seller). 5.) ATX power supply (I used a 600W PSU from another computer I had). 6.) USB wireless. 7.) External monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Steps: 1.) Obtain and install a unwhitelisted BIOS. If you are unable to obtain a unwhitelist BIOS, I think it might be possible to bypass it with Tech Inferno Fan's Setup 1.x (may need confirmation as I haven't used it myself yet.) 2.) Shutdown computer and remove all USB devices, ethernet cables, power cables, card reader cards. 3.) Remove mPCIe wireless card and detach antennas. 4.) Attach EXP GDC external mPCIe cable to the former wireless slot and screw down. 5.) Attach HDMI end of the mPCIe cable adapter to the EXP GDC device. 6.) Attach graphics card to the EXP GDC device (I moved my laptop off the desk and onto the side shelf to make room on the desk for the monitor/keyboard/mouse). 7.) Using the power cable adapters that came with the EXP GDC device, I hooked in my ATX power supply's 20 pin and CPU 4 pin cables. Then hooked the other end (8 pin) into the EXP GDC device. My EVGA 750 Ti also required that I use an additional PCIe power cable (6 pin) in the top of the card. 8.) Then I attached my misc devices (HDMI monitor, USB keyboard/mouse/wireless adapter), and hooked in my PSU and powered it on (below is image of final product, also moved HDMI cable out of the way). 9.) Power on your computer and let it install the standard VGA drivers and then install your drivers (I didn't have to go in the BIOS for any graphics settings, which it doesn't have anyways, nor did I have to disable iGPU in Device Manager before the card was added). Extra Info: I found that most games will play on med settings with about 45 FPS with this particular card. BDO: Upscale on - Anti Aliasing on - SSAO off - med settings. Skyrim: Med-High settings. Fallout 4: Med settings. (EDIT 5/19/2016) > Images added.
  18. Hello fellow Aliens, My specs: Alienware M17xR4 got it back in Dec 2011 (Dell decided to upgrade my M17xR3 that crapped out on me) Intel Core i7 3940XM Upgraded from 660m to 780m 16GB Samsung 1600 RAM 2 500GB Samsung SSD in Raid 0 ( i know sue me) This will be a little guide with my journey of upgrading my dedicated GTX and CPU. Eagle vision activated and started the hunt on eBay for something that would not leave my bank with a massive dent. All i wanted to do is breathe more life into this monster that i have grown way too attached to. A quick search revealed people want way too much for their hard ware . How ever i started making offers and messaging people to negotiate a better price. I think it took me two days before i found a nice 3940XM listed for 350$. Messaged the dude and surely he replied with 200$ is a no go . But i can do 300$ . I had to come back with 280$ and to make the story short he accepted . Put my 3610QM after looking up on eBay they were going for 80$ give or take. So i listed it for 60$ with 4$ shipping . I got an E-mail from eBay; congrats on your listing...and your item sold . I did not want any negative feedback, so i removed the CPU wiped the thermal paste and decided to be with out my baby () until the 3940XM () arrived ( which took 3 days). That package was like a in my arms being delivered to its rightful owner. Reading all the replies on the offers i had made on 680m and 780m listings. From hell no to sorry you are crazy, there was a fellow that shared with me that the money is not a priority and his new 980m made him so happy he would sell his 780m for 300$ . Naturally i offered 280$ with paypal invoice = no eBay seller fees. What you know he accepted!!!! Listed my 660m for sale and till this day it is still there . I dont want to share my agony with you, waiting for a seven business day delivery by UPS ground , so lets fast forward to when i got the 780m and installing it. Seller advised i would need a 100W heat sink, which my poor 660m oddly had. So 780m is installed and a dual boot of Win10 and Win7 in order to see which Win the 780 preferred. Windows recognized the new hardware, so did the Bios, so i went to www.Nvidia.com and downloaded the latest drivers . The installer kept on saying no compatible hardware was found so that drove me . It was not until i googled " M17xR4 780m upgrade that i found out the 780m is not compatible the "Legal way" and a INF file modification was in place to get the drivers installed. Again googled M17xR4 780m upgrade drivers, and i found numerous of people crying for help as well. I thought to my self ( i will never see this work today, better try this in the morning, but before i went to sleep i needed some wisdom of a fellow Alien to come to my aid. A guy that goes by tanzmeister replied and guided me. Here is a copy paste for yas. These are the links you should check in order to install drivers properly:Flashing vBios:1- Guide:http://forum.techinferno.com/nvidia-video-cards/2166-[guide]-nvidia-vbios-flashing.html2 - vBios for the 780mhttps://www.techinferno.com/index.p...king-editions-modified-clocks-voltage-tweaks/Modded drivers:http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...od-for-780m-880m-and-980m-mobile-gpus.767644/I am not actually sure these drivers are modded... They might just be "Enhanced". So check out this link as well to learn how to mod drivers yourself (really not that hard)https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/4055-guide-modding-nvidia-oem-inf-files/To install a modded driver you need to restart Windows with DSE disabled (driver signature). Please google this to find how to do it. I personally haven't tried MrFox's drivers but I read they yield fantastic results on Kepler GPU's (780m included) so you can give these a try. Everything worked!!!! Red Alert 2 and Age of Empires 2 were running!!!! Joking aside i launched Gta v and The witcher 3 which ran at a decent 30+ FPS. Castlevania Lords of Shadow 1 and 2 i could play at Ultra. I was genuinely happy with my rig. Until today, for some reason i wanted to try an unlocked Bios. I was on A13, looked up Drivers on Dell's website and downloaded A12, A11, A10 and A05. Did you guess what i did next? I flashed them all one by one, A12 first which was a sucess, A11 which also yielded good results. A10 finished flashing and instead of restarting my Alienware decided to take a nap. Turn it on, and what i feared has happened. I HAD BRICKED MY BIOS!!!! Pulled my crappy Pentium laptop and googled M17xR4 bricked Bios. Thank the merciful lord of forgiveness, of light, of hope, of all that is great. I had stumbles on T|I: Following that i Blindly flashed A05 through recovery (which you really do not know what the hell is going on, Put the file on a flash drive, insert it in eSata. Shut down and remove both battery and AC adapter. Hold the END button on your keyboard and plug in your AC-adapter. Fans turn on 100% All the lights where showing, but then it started beeping and i had to go to work in 30 mins so i left it and proceeded to a warm shower. Finishing up and coming back to the room it was still beeping so i unplugged the AC-adapter reinserted the battery and AC-adapter. Pressed the and voila my tears were sucked back in. Thank you for reading, i know i am not much of a writer, but i just wanted to share my journey if someone was thinking of doing the 780m upgrade.
  19. Hi, I've not posted on here since I built my eGPU for my 2015 MacBook Pro over a year ago. That unit was an Akitio Thunder2, RM 650W PSU, CoolerMaster 130 case, powered riser cable with a Zotac GTX 770 card. It's mainly used for playing Elite Dangerous on and it has been working perfectly. Recently I had the opportunity to upgrade the GTX 770 to a GTX 980 Reference card. It was pretty much a straight swap out except for the cards power connectors. On the GTX 770 these were 1 x 8-pin and 1 x 6-pin connectors. On the GTX 980 these are 2 x 6-pin connectors. Simple enough with my 650W PSU I just switched connectors. I am using the same powered riser cable for the PCIe connection. The unit boots up and works okay on Windows 10 via the display port connection. It will even play Elite Dangerous on Ultra settings and give a steady 60fps. So all good! Why am I posting here and asking for help??? Well, I noticed that when playing Elite Dangerous I could hear a high pitched electronic screaming noise coming from the unit. At first I thought it was the GTX 980 power coil as apparently they do sometimes do this. However on closer inspection the noise is coming from the Akitio board. It appears to be power related, so I tried to stress the card (and hopefully use more power) by using 3D Mark 11. Sure enough when running the benchmark tests the Akitio board makes a very high pitched electronic screaming noise. The noise stops when the tests stops. So it is caused by load on the graphics card and therefore I presume power, or lack of it. Do you think power is the problem here? If so, what should I do? I don't use the 2.5mm power adapter input on the Akitio board because my powered riser cable has a MOLEX adapter attached to it. Should I scrap the powered riser cable and get a non-powered version and then create a MOLEX to 2.5mm DC adapter plug for the Akitio power socket? Would that supply enough power for the GTX 980. The GTX 770 never had this problem, but I presume the GTX 980 draws a lot more power under load. I've attached some pictures below. Any help or advice you can give would be appreciated. Thanks, X6
  20. Hi all, I just received and installed a new GTX 970M into my Clevo P150EM. It was a bit tricky at first but I finally got it to work by modding the .inf and installing the 358.50 driver from nVidia. However, I had a couple questions. The card is working but I can hear a buzzing sound when playing GTA V, The Witcher 3, etc... Also, when the game is fullscreen and I click anywhere within the game, the screen flickers and then minimizes. I've also been trying to figure out how to flash Prema's vBios for the 6gb 970M onto this card, but whenever I try to take the write protection off a menu pops up with a beep but then promptly disappears. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  21. Hi, I just bought a 4GB GTX 880m off eBay. It has engineering revision Vbios that shows every time I restart my AW18. Not sure what to make of it. After I installed it into my AW18 and reinstalled GeForce driver it caused all sorts of artifacts. But it is fine if the GeForce drivers are not installed. I am currently reinstalling W8.1 to see if that fixes the problem. Anyone have any ideas either in general about the card or the current issues it is causing? Thanks!
  22. masterblaster 2.0 comment>> This is the first Windows 8.x implementation where a dormant iGPU was activated to enable x1.Opt (x1 pci-e compression) on a 1st gen i-core (dual core) system supplied by the manufacturer with a dGPU only. First I want to say thank you for Tech Inferno Fan for his huge help the whole project and I want to apologize for my bad english. I'm from Germany and still a student so be surprised A long time ago I saw a video with an graphics card running external connect to an notebook. I always thought about doing this by myself and one day I decided to order an eGPU adapter and the graphics card. First the specs of my notebook: Model: Acer Aspire 5742G CPU: i7-640m (upgraded from an i3-370m) with dormant Intel HD iGPU not connect to LCD GPU: Nvidia GeForce GT420m dGPU only RAM: 8GB DDR3 So now we are getting to the things you need: free mPCI slot (unfortunately the Aspire 5742G has only one slot, so you need to remove the Wifi-Card. In my sitution no problem because I'm using lan either way.) PCIe -> mPCIe adapter (PE4L, PE4H or what I used the PE4C) A GPU of your choice (I chose a Nvidia GeForce GTX660Ti) A PSU that has enough power (I used an PSU with 550W found in the basement) Setup 1.x (buy it from Tech Inferno Fan for 25$) -> it's necessary, without you wouldn't be able to run the eGPU A case or something to store you eGPU + GPU (not necessary, but looks tidier) Windows 8.x (I wasn't successful with Win 7. If you want to know more about it, you can read more here.) External Display -> internal isn't working because the dGPU is disabled and the iGPU isn't connected to the LCD Some explanations: The biggest problem about the whole process is that the Aspire 5742G has a iGPU but it's not connect to the LCD and even if you have enabled it via Setup 1.x you are always getting Error 43 in device-manager. As seen on the screen here. So the point is to enable the iGPU and disable the dGPU under Win8.x to get a working x1.Opt setup. The way of just disabling the dGPU via Setup 1.x is ending up in freezing and you have to restart the notebook. So I tried a lot of things with Tech Inferno Fan. So many things and I was close to just give up all. But then he had the great idea to just disable the PCI port where the dGPU is connected on. And that's the way how it's working Let's get started: 1. You need to buy the Setup 1.x from Tech Inferno Fan. Here you will get more information about it. 2. Install it as mentioned in the email. 3. Then navigate to "C:\eGPU" and run the "eGPU-Setup-mount.bat" batch file to install Setup 1.x. Now you will see a new drive named "DIYEGPUIMG (V:)" 4. Go to "V:\config" and just replace the "startup.bat" with my startup.bat startup.zip. (It's just to make the whole process easier. It's configured by Tech Inferno Fan and optimized by me. So it's easy and fast to boot up.) 5. If you have done this all correctly you should get an option "DIY eGPU Setup 1.30" on startup. (When not make you sure you missed no step or done it wrong.) 6. Select the Setup 1.30 and run the "automated startup" (You are now using the startup.bat you have downlaoded an replaced with the stock.) 7. Some lines will now come up and then you get an message that your eGPU isn't connected. Just power on your eGPU (PSU + PCI adapter. Make sure, the switch shows "ON") and connect the mPCI adapter to your notebook. 8. If done correctly you now should be back in the selection menu where you can select Windows 8.x or the Setup 1.30. Now select Windows 8.x. 9. Windows is booting normal and you should see your desktop. (If not -> make sure you did everything right.) 10. Go to device manager and you will see two new devices. Click on install drivers and wait until it finished. (eGPU driver took about 10 minutes so don't be impatient.) Important: It can happen that you get an bluescreen while installing the iGPU driver. I don't know why, perhaps because it isn't connected to the LCD. When this happens just start at point 6. and go on. 11. Now download the graphics card driver that is compabtile to your graphics card. Uninstall your old driver and install the new one. (You can do this step before starting with the eGPU but I don't think there is any difference in doing this after.) 12. When you have successfully installed your Nvidia driver now it's getting tricky but still such simple 13. Go to device manager and select "devices on connection" (German: "Geräte nach Verbindung") and search where the dGPU is connected on and just disable it. (I got an blackscreen and I needed to restart my laptop via the power button. But it doesn't matter you need to restart your notebook anyway to get fully working x1.Opt Setup. 14. After restart (just like point 6. you can check the device manager and you should only see the "Intel HD Graphics [iGPU] and your video card that you bought. In my situation the GTX660Ti [eGPU]. (If not -> check the steps above.). 15. You should now have a fully working (expect the internal screen isn't working) x1.Opt Setup. You can check this in the Nvidia cobtrol panel by checking if the "High-performance Nvidia processor" is available. Or go to GPU-Z and check it there. 16. At the end you can run 3dMark06 or other benchmark tools to compare your results with others. Or just play a game and enjoy it Here is my 3dMark06 score. With the same notebook you should get similar results. (+/- depends in you graphics card.) Something else to say: There are some downsides of using the eGPU Setup with an Aspire 5742G. I'll list some of my established. Need of removing wifi card You need to plug the eGPU in after running the automated startup. Otherwise you'll running into reboot loop. You are not able to go into sleep mode and wake up successfully (biggest downside for me) You won't get the full graphics power as on an desktop computer If you have any question or you think I forget something - feel free to ask me. startup.zip
  23. I'm an architecture student going into College and I've been informed by my professors that I need to purchase a Quadro graphics card in order to run the hardware acceleration in the drafting programs we use. To me, this doesn't make any sense; why would I downgrade my already powerful GTX 780ti's (in three way SLI: overkill? Yes, I'm aware. But why the hell not?) for something not nearly as powerful, the Quadro 5000, and spend over $1000 on one graphics card? I've been reading about ways to crack the 660 into working, or at least reading, like a Workstation card, but is there a way to do it on something as recent as the 780ti? I'd still like to be able to retain the gaming capabilities of my PC but also, you know, succeed in college and not spend a fortune on another graphics card when I have 3 perfectly good ones in my machine already?
