  1. Hy there! I have an interesting question that can help more people. If i extend the root bridge into 36 bit space that can allow me to use concurrently the eGPU and dGPU? That is important because due to some BIOS it's impossibile to disable the dGPU. If the dGPU isn't disable win 10 crash after the logo. Is that possibile?
  2. Hi, I have a big/little problem to make my eGPU work. Here's are my specs and hardware. Macbook Pro 15" Mid 2012 2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz) with 6MB L3 cache 8GB of 1600MHz DDR3 memory 1TB Seagate SSHD + 750GB 5400 rpm (optical disc drive removed) NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory OS: OSX Yosemite & Bootcamp (Windows 8.1 64-bit) eGPU needed hardware/software: 480W PSU Veriton Sonnet EE PE4C-EC060A v3.0 (Link to website: http://www.hwtools.net/Adapter/PE4C%20V3.0.html ) QLeadtek GTX 650 Ti Boost DIY eGPU Setup 1.20 by Tech Inferno Fan So, I already have bootcamp(Windows 8.1) installed. So skip that part. Installed the DIY eGPU 1.20 (Have read throught MBR implementation, it seems my model requires 1.20 since everyone is using it?) Hook up the hardware. Image below shown. Ok. I cant upload a 189kb picture. This sucks. I hooked up the 24 pin from PSU to the eGPU. And use a 2 molex adapter to a 8 pin connector to power my GPU. Then eGPU express card to my Sonnet and to my laptop. Situation: eGPU and GPU works when I on my laptop. That's fine. Problem 1: Whenever I do that in the beginning, my computer freezes. Before my mac can boot up to windows os, it freezes on the white screen. Problem 2: Run laptop first to boot windows 8.1. Then plug in eGPU. GPU isnt detected. Nothing happened. So far this is accurate on what I have been doing with eGPU. I worked on this for more than half a year now. I need help. I've gone through lots of websites and such. But havent gone through enough. Please let me know what's my problem or any further information, i'll do my best to answer them. (Edit1: Planning to buy a swex soon. So its gonna take 1 month time. Not sure if its needed or not) Thanks, Kazeki
  3. I was looking at the products over at BPlus and HWtools main websites and was wondering "Why would a company make so many ends for the same adapter?!" For example if you want to order a PE4C v3.0 adapter, you MUST choose one end to it, mPCIe or ExpressCard or PCI-E . You CAN'T have an all in one version. This way you - as the customer - end with a product that only works with a specific type of ports. And they - as the selling company - have to lose more on making different types of ends for adapters. So, I made some research and found this amazing product Link HERE . Which basically serves as an adapter from ExpressCards ports to mPCIe or to the normal PCI-E port. Now you can get a mPCIe eGPU adaptor that can be connected to your mPCIe through ExpressCard slots Without removing you WLAN. Maybe you are using you EC slot, maybe you don't want to get an adaptor that only works with an EC slot. Whatever your reason is, I found this to be the solution. And now you can use the same eGPU adapter for different laptops (one with EC, and one with mPCIe/PCI-E) I'm sure there are more adapters that can have all the possible combinations of ports, but this one is just the start, I haven't searched for more yet. I'm sure there is a cheaper one, or someone who can make a cheap one of the same type. HWTools should consider doing this. Just wanted to share what I've found. Edit: Maybe title needs to change to mPCIe/PCI-E to ExpressCard adaptor? :/ I don't know. But you get it my friends.
  4. One month ago, i've started my first eGPU project. I was looking for a solution to improve my render times. I've searched the web for possible solutions and i found this site. After two days reading a lot of articles in this forum, i've made my decision. So i started a new thread "eGPU with IMac 21" 4k (late 2015)" in the section "Apple eGPU discussion" and wrote down my questions. Within a few hours, I've got all the answers i needed (many thanks to @Dschijn! Without his recommendations, gain experiences and hints, i never would be able to build my egpu). When i finished my first part of my egpu project, Tech Inferno Fan asked me to post an implementation guide. So here is my implementation guide: Because i want to speed up my render times, i needed an GPU with a lot of CUDA cores. So i decided to built up my eGPU with a high performance GTX 980 TI. My Hardware: iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5", Late 2015) 3.3 GHz Intel Core i7 1TB Fusion Frive HDD 16GB 1867 MHz DDR3 RAM The components, I bought: Akitio Thunderbolt2 PCIe Expansion Box MP-TB-PCIE ( https://www.format.de/Products/5961/index.php?gclid=CPDWsYn2hsUCFUblwgodMa0AVA) ASUS STRIX GTX 980 Ti (http://www.hiq24.de/shop//GeForce-STRIX-GTX980TI-DC3-6GD5-GAMING,-Grafikkarte/170245/100/i.html?) PSU: Thermaltake Smart SE 630W (http://www.hiq24.de/shop/Hardware/Komponenten/Netzteile/ab-500-Watt/Smart-SE-630W,-PC-Netzteil/81758/9512/i.html?) 24-Pin ATX adapter (https://www.caseking.de/bitspower-24-pin-atx-ueberbrueckungsstecker-zuad-083.html) DC cable (http://www.reichelt.de/DC-AKS-7525/3/index.html?&ACTION=3&LA=446&ARTICLE=150126&artnr=DC+AKS+7525&SEARCH=niedervoltstecker+2.5mm) MOLEX adapter (http://www.reichelt.de/DELOCK-82315/3/index.html?&ACTION=3&LA=446&ARTICLE=143815&artnr=DELOCK+82315&SEARCH=6-pin+pcie+kabel) Within a few days, i have got everything, i need. I've opened the AKiTiO. I bend the back part of the case a bit because the GTX980TI is to long. I put the GPU into the PCIe slot I connected the two 6+2 power cables from the PSU to the GPU With the DC cable and the MOLEX adapter, i've built up a power connector for the AKiTiO (as described here in the forum) I prepared the ATX adapter for the paper clip trick After this steps, i connected everything together and so i've got my eGPU in the "ghetto-mod" version I connected the TB2 cable (included within the AKiTiO) and switched on power at the PSU Then i've turned on my iMac (now the blue LED at the AKiTiO lights) For the driver installation, i've downloaded the script: https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/7989-script-automating-the-installation-of-egpu-on-os-x-inc-display-output/ I've followed the instructions in the thread. This script is doing the installation automatically (thanks to goalque for this amazing work) After the first try, I've got the message "nvram: Error getting variable - 'csr-active-config': (iokit/common) data was not found" To solve this, the SIP has to be switched off (csrutil disable) when using MAC OS X El Capitan (here is a link http://www.macworld.com/article/2986118/security/how-to-modify-system-integrity-protection-in-el-capitan.html) Then i boot up my system and installed the latest CUDA driver package from NVIDEA I started my 3D program and the external GPU was recognized directly. I did a few test render,, the performance was great :-) Then i connected an external monitor to the eGPU via a HDMI cable and after i made the external monitor to my primary monitor (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202351) everything works fine. Conclusion: The whole project has lasted one week. The system runs very stable and the fans are very quiet. Many thanks to this forum! The next steps will be: finding a suitable case for my PSU, AKiTiO and GTX upgrading to OS X 10.11.3 and the latest NVIDEA driver installing Windows 10 (via BootCamp) and make the eGPU running under Windows Update: I have just updated to MAC OS X 10.11.3 and NVIDEA Web Driver 346.03.05f01 (incl. CUDA Driver Version: 7.5.25). Everything works fine. Update: A few days ago, I also installed Windows 10 /with Bootcamp). I followed the instructions (and the power up sequence) by ZapCord and everything works fine. The eGPU will be recognized and i am able to do fast renders. On the external display, the eGPU works brilliant, only OPTIMUS will not work.
  5. Hi there, i have been trying to work out if there is any way to get a x2 or x4 pcie link with laptops running series 6 or newer chipsets. So far it seems you can only do this via the flash descriptor and after doing a bit of digging i can't find any sure way to gain access to this, or even a good description on what it is, or if its even possible to get these pcie speeds working on my machine. My specs are as follows, egpu gtx 660sc plugged in via PE4C V.3 pcie HP ENVY 15-j033tx laptop gt 740m dgpu intel i7 4700mq @2.4ghz 8gb ram windows 10 pro Any help is appreciated
  6. Hello guys, I recently made a Akitio + 980Ti eGPU setup for my three year old rMBP 15" Mid-2012. I was working on a post trying to summarize my experience, but one question popped to my mind. Because of TB1, rMBP 15" Mid-2012 does not support a 4K external display. But I was wondering if I can hook up a 4K monitor to the 980Ti eGPU setup. I currently have a WQHD 27" monitor, and I wanted to add a second display; I would love to add a 32" 4K display, but if not, I will go with a 34" 21:9 2560*1080 display. If nobody has an answer to this, I will try to borrow a 4K monitor somewhere to test it out, but if anyone has experience, it would be great! Thanks!
  7. Hey, So I've been having fairly consistent crashes under OS X, where the screen completely freezes, leaving me with no control. The only option at that point seems to be to cause a kernel panic by unplugging the akitio/holding the power button to turn it off and reset. This doesn't seem to happen at any particular time. Any ideas? (setup and crash log below). Thanks! ------------ Setup: Macbook Pro 13 inch early 2013 Akitio PCIE box acer direct ii gtx 780 evga 500W power supply powered 16x riser Crash log (although this may be from the kernel panic from shutting it down)
  8. Ok, so I am looking to purchase an Akitio Thunder2 to use with my Macbook Pro retina 13 2015 laptop. I am hoping to get an egpu setup created to improve premiere pro render times as well as for a bit of gaming. I have been searching for the expansion boxes in the UK and have now found a supplier: http://www.span.com/product/AKiTiO-Thunderbolt-PCIe-Thunder2-PCIe-Box-T2PC-TIA-AKTU-2x-TB2-1x-PCI-Express-v2-0-x16-FHHL-x4-speed-~50137 but in their product video they specifically mention that mac users will get 'kernel errors' with Quicktime or something. I have never heard of this issue with an EGPU. Is it just them trying to stop people from using it or is it something I need to be wary of? I am technologically inclined so feel confident installing the required patches etc. to get it working out of the box. Could anyone shed some light on this from experience? Many Thanks. PS This is the video where they talk about these kernel errors...@7:50.
  9. I finally summoned up the nerve to crack open my laptop for the first time ever, besides the back panel. I was an a mission to put new thermal paste on my cpu and gpu and I thank the Council of Cosmic Ministers I did. The GPU core had bleached the heatsink and needed thermal paste really bad, I'm glad I stopped playing the Witcher 3 when I did. @_@ Onto the point, I had the pleasure of learning the CPU was upgradable as well as the GPU being MXM upgradable, it would be great if that were better advertised. I'm just interested in the GPU the i7 3630qm seems fine. I'm looking at other asus mxm cards and it looks like the only one that may fit is the GTX 670m which is significantly weaker. This [URL="http://www.ebay.com/itm/For-ASUS-G750JZ-MXM-Video-Card-60NB04M0-VG1020-nVIDIA-GTX-880M-GDDR5-100-tested-/201466062129?hash=item2ee8502531:g:wAsAAOSwvt1WRJ-3"]GTX 880m will fit the socket, but may not line up all the way with the screw sockets. I'm sure I could rig it in there, but I was interested in if anyone has any experience with this. I'm just eyeballing the G75VW and G750 motherboards, it will fit but the screws don't all line up. There are also external GPU adapters like this [URL="http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Q4VMLF6/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=MLJR7I40QP9I&coliid=I14D9TK3EVTC7B"]EXP GDC PCI-E Adapter for hooking up a full sized GPU, has anyone done this? The PCI-E port is internal, so I would have to deal with that. I've considered overclocking as well. I get the basic +135 from Inspector and that seems noticeable. I've been through several threads and can't really understand what I'm supposed to do to overclock it further... What type of performance boost are you looking at with an extreme overclock? My GPU isn't going over 68'c with a load on it, I can push it a little more.
  10. My system; Computer- Samsung RV 711 Notebook, i7-640M Motherboard Chipset QM55 A01 (BIOS:Phoenix Technologies---) 8GB RAM Crucial BX200 480 GB SSD Intel HD Graphics eGPU components GTX 580 Superflower SF-650P14P Sawake EXP GDC Beast (mPCIe) Samsung Syncmaster T260 I finally got around to setting everything up for my eGPU. prepared for the worst of software problems with all the reading I could do. Found no one with a remotely parallel system, so I'm on my own here. Any help is welcome! I powered on my eGPU with the 6 and 6+2 pins PCI cables from the ATX PSU, and powered the board with the 8pin to 20pin and 4 pin connector that came with the EXP GDC. The 20 pin as most of you know is there to short the power connection so that the GPU can draw from the PSU by activating it. (I admit I'm a little unclear about how exactly that works, but it does.) The 4 pin I've been directed to plug into one of the 4+4 CPU power connectors from the PSU. Only one of them seems to fit properly, and my set up now looks like every other set up I've seen (Cable connector wise. . .) I power everything on, and its easy, peasy, beautiful breezy. Boot up normal, no hangs, drivers all downloaded. Had to restart, but as soon as I did, it was all reconfigured no errors, no problems. Everything recognized it. In short, stupidly easy. . . Too easy you might say. . . So thinking everything jolly and ready for a test. I started Starcraft 2 up. Low and behold, the card is detected!:D Even ran everything from the built in display, automatically. . . Everything set to Ultra that isn't governed by my crappy processor core. . . So away we go, right? WRONG. I get to the game screen, and the GPU and Adapter board lose all power. The PSU stops drawing, and my computer loses all data from the driver. No error aside from the obvious "Your driver has stopped responding" I can run other games that are way less intensive, doesn't seem to be problematic. But SC2, the whole purpose of my project, doesn't seem to be able to launch, without the GPU going lights out. TDP for the GTX580 is 244 watts. Everything I read about every benchmark I can find says that even under load, the 580 doesnt draw more than 17 amps of power at any time. My PSU puts out a minimum of 21 Amps on either of the 2 12V rails. I know next to nothing about the Beast's power requirements or what those connectors plug into. Some clarity there might be helpful. I didnt try a benchmark, and I'm worried if I do this too many times, Ill burn something up. So my questions are: 1. Do I have my connectors right? How much power is required for the x16 slot on the adapter? Is my adapter underpowered? 2. Could my problem have something to do with confusion over which display to use? Is there a conflict between trying to run through the iGPU versus straight to the external display? How do I get the card and driver to feed data to the display and usurp the iGPU? 3. How can I find out if this really is a hardware problem definitively? 4. I know some people need to bypass a circuit breaker on Bplus adapters. Could I have a similar problem? If so, is there any way to fix it with the EXP GDC? Please help, my girlfriend is pissed because I am keeping her up at night trying to figure this out. . .

  12. F42 Bios and also tried nando's DSDT patch load.bat ... no joy. I created a restore point before trying that and am now back at that point. I thought no override's or anything were needed for a 1gb GTX560ti, but I am getting error 12 consistently. Is there something I am missing?
  13. Hello everyone, After much searching I can't seem to find a fix to this. I just completely my eGPU set-up with a 780 Ti and an Akitio case for use with Octane in Cinema 4D. Everything is recognized and working well, drivers are up to date, and I am able to render using the Octane plugin. My issue is that the fan speed does not change under load. I checked the card in my PC and it runs perfectly fine, temps are great. Is there a way to set a fan curve from within OSX or is my only option to install Windows? I plan on adding an H80i water cooler eventually, is that how others are bypassing this issue? To have an aftermarket cooler running off of the PSU?
  14. So I have an early 2015 13 macbook pro pro with retina display and am looking to get an EGPU setup to improve gaming performance in bootcamp as well as improving render times when editing in Premiere Pro CC. I am on a tight budget and had planned to get the Akitio Thunder2 but it is quite tricky to get hold of now in the UK and I have found a used Sonnet Echo Express enclosure that I am close to buying. Does anyone know if it would work on a thunderbolt 2 machine or if that is asking for more issues? I plan to get a 950ti or something (half length) to put in the enclosure...anything to be aware of or would I follow one of the many tutorials on the forum for drivers etc? Any help is much appreciated, dwinnbrown
  15. I've been trying to get my eGPU setup working for a couple of days now. So far, I have a GTX 570 attached via an exp gdc beast (expresscard version) to my Dell Latitude e6440. There are no errors reporting in device manager and it reads "This device is working properly." Despite this, I cannot seem to get my system to play nice with the card. I have the standard Windows automatically-installed drivers right now and if I install nvidia drivers for the card, the install succeeds, but device manager reports an error 43. With just the system default drivers installed, Windows will not detect any monitors attached to the GPU. I also do not see the eGPU in dxdiag, though I'm not sure if I'm suppose to, as this is my first attempt at such a setup. I am running Windows 10 Pro 64bit with latest updates. I have not found any posts similar to this issue and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  16. hello is it possible to do a egpu with the express card on a 17" macbook pro would there be any problem with the integrated graphics?
  17. I have an old HP probook 4525s and I am wondering if anyone has had success with doing a diy egpu project. I recently purchased the beast and I am able to get it to power up but no luck with it recognizing the connecting video card. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks in advance
  18. Hello I recently re-installed Windows 10 after an SSD fail, which meant that I had to redo my DSDT Override. I was wondering if there was any other way of fixing error 12 than those suggested on the forum (that I know of), when I found this tool called BAR-Edit 3.2. The BAR is supposedly the PCIe memory space (unless I totally have this wrong), and I was thinking if it was possible to use this software to edit my eGPU's resources so it would work. Anyone know if this is possible? -Aerostar P.s. I didn't know where to post this, so I created a new topic (sorry if this is annoying)
  19. Hello techinferno-team, I decided to finally register on the site and in this forums as I have read a lot about eGPU implementations and actually tried to accomplish one by my self. Those are my parts: Lenovo Thinkpad t430 with i5 3320M, 8GB DC RAM, 160GB SSD, Intel HD4000 EXP GDC BEAST, Expresscard bequiet! 450 Watt PSU Windows 10 64bit. So far, so good - but it just won't work. Everytime I boot my Laptop up with eGPU connected, it loads the Windows 10 screen with the blue logo on it. After app. 2 minutes a little circle spins around, suggesting the PC is loading the OS. I waited to hours, the screen remained the same. Then I tried booting Windows up, then instering the eGPU. That does not work either, as the card is not recognized. I tried putting laptop to sleep, plugging eGPU in, then waking it from sleep. It just turns off. I also tried powering the PSU of the eGPU on when the windows logo appears, but the card is not recognized and the fan of the GTX670 spins like crazy. First time this appeared I almost thought I bricked the card. Then I tried another thing: I used the egpu with my old Thinkpad t500 on windows 7. I plugged it in, booted up, installed drivers, done. It works. So the eGPU components should work fine., I I am absolutely at loss here. What can I do to get this thing working? I have read like every article about eGPUs on T430 and on Windows10... But it just won't work. I would very much appreciate your help in this case; furthermore I hope this is the right place to post this in. If not, I apologize - this is my first post. I am not a native speaker, so if you do not understand something in my text feel free to ask, I will do my best. Thank you so much! daku I tried every setting advised in the existing troubleshooting guides at least twice, none of them worked.

  21. Please ask for support in the main DSDT Override or DIY eGPU Experiences Thread. I have been out of the eGPU realm for too long to provide adequate support. Here is a guide to performing a DSDT override with hopefully less misery, and setting up your computer to have your iGPU, dGPU, and eGPU working at the same time! Oh boy this is going to be fun. This is my system specs (Fujitsu T901): i7-2620M 16GB RAM NVS 4200M GTX 660 Ti Windows 7 Enterprise x64 Now it begins.. Disconnect your eGPU until I say so. If you can, you should perform a DSDT override. The method shown in the official thread was really hard at How to perform a DSDT override: Now for the fun part........ Disconnect your eGPU Uninstall ALL (ALL MEANS ALL) (dGPU included!!!) Nvidia drivers (keep the Intel graphics driver) Use Driver Sweeper and check all the Nvidia options, run, reboot, turn off computer -- don't install the driver for the dGPU yet Connect eGPU and go to Setup 1.x Set your eGPU port to G2 (assuming your have an adapter that supports G2, and your computer as well - if not, then skip setting the port to G2) dGPU off 32-bitA compaction for iGPU eGPU chainload to your OS Windows may yell at you to reboot due to hardware changes, don't quite yet Check device manager, you might (I did) have error 43 Attempt to install the latest Nvidia drivers for you eGPU -- still don't install drivers for your dGPU If your lucky, it will install, if not: shutdown/reboot Setup 1.x do the same as before (dGPU off and such) Attempt to install the Nvidia drivers again for your eGPU After a few hours of fiddling around, you should get them installed (keep your dGPU off this whole time) ONLY AFTER YOU GET YOUR eGPU DRIVERS INSTALLED!! (and as such, error 12 in device manager) Go to Setup 1.x Set port G2 on your eGPU port (again, if you support G2) 32-bitA compaction for iGPU dGPU eGPU (or choose 36-bit if you performed a DSDT override) chainload You will probably get the reboot due to new devices again, but before you do, check device manager Might have a generic VGA device or something instead of the NVS 4200M Attempt to install the drivers for you dGPU now If no luck, reboot and do the same Setup 1.x as before (with dGPU on) Attempt to install dGPU drivers again Reboot after you get your dGPU drivers installed Keep the same Setup 1.x method If your lucky you should have your iGPU dGPU and eGPU show up fine in device manager. You can go to the Nvidia control panel and dedicate your dGPU as your PhysX processor, it works really well. (If you play stuff that supports PhysX and have an at least somewhat useful dGPU) ------------------------------------ I hope this helps. ^ over 20 hrs of fiddling around well spent ;-; ------------------------------------ HOW TO: Update drivers (probably): Note: You can check your driver version for both your eGPU and dGPU in the System Information dialogue box under 'Help' in the NVIDIA Control Panel (you can even check your Bus here too (PCI Express x1 Gen2 as shown for my eGPU). Results::::: iGPU + dGPU + eGPU dGPU PhysX dedicated: WEI: ALL THE MONITORS (and all different resolutions too ): Weeee~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Check out a video here:

These are all Sandy Bridge or newer offering faster 5GT/s-per-lane PCIe 2.0 mPCIe/ExpressCard slots than previous 1st gen i-core and Core2Duo systems using only PCIe 1.x 2.5GT/s slots. The cost effective ExpressCard is a dying standard. This means future eGPU implementations will be using either the mPCIe (WLAN) or Thunderbolt port. mPCIe present additional issues: the slot may be a whitelisted slot requiring third party program or booting with wifi, then swapping it out to activate it. mPCIe also adds the hassle of cabling it via underside covers with no concurrent wifi unless get a USB stick wifi. Note too that a USB 3.0 DIY eGPU product isn't likely to happen due to USB-to-pcie driver issues. The highest performance eGPU solution is one using a Thunderbolt port. Though TB1's 10Gbps doubling of bandwidth questionable value over the the cost effective expresscard solutions. TB2's 16Gbps is however a worthy upgrade the only problem being the lack of notebooks with TB2 ports. Expresscard/mPCIe systems are capable of attaching very low cost eGPUs, eg: GTX650 for Pre-purchase FAQ -> 2. How can I check if my notebook is compatible with an eGPU?. NOTE: The HP Probook 4x40s and Lenovo Ex30 low cost business notebooks no longer have expresscard slots in the Ivy Bridge series. Sandy Bridge, 2nd generation 32nm i-core (2011) The hosting Series-6 chipset has, for the first time, pci-e 2.0 connectivity on the Southbridge that host the expresscard or mPCIe slot. There is no USB 3.0 integrated on the chipset so any machines that come with USB 3.0 typically attach a Renesas USB 3.0 controller on the Southbridge. i7-quad users note: Ivy Bridge improves on Sandy Bridge by using more efficient 22nm tech compared to 32nm used in Sandy Bridge. Typically i7-quad Sandy Bridge CPUs will see significant TDP throttling where it only reaches a x27 multiplier in 4-core mode and consumes 10-14W more power under load as discussed. Meaning it's maximum performance is considerably lower than an Ivy Bridge CPU at the same power limit!! For that reason I recommend the Ivy Bridge range for best performance. 23. Hey guys. I'm not a gamer and i dont game that much on a PC, maybe on a console, but not a PC. I'm a photographer and i mainly work in Lightroom or Photoshop and do photo rendering and super sized panoramas. Currently i have a Lenovo Thinkpad W520 with quad-core i7, 24GB DDR3 RAM, SSD's, and 2GB Nvidia Quadro, and yes i fill up the RAM once i open 20 36MP RAW photo in photoshop. I had this setup for over 4 years now and i'm looking for something with more powerful GPU. My main issue with getting the next system is that i need something portable since i do travel a lot and need my system with me to work on location. I saw what Alienware did with their graphics amplifier and that idea caught my attention so i started my research into eGPU and need some expert advice if you can. I have few system that interest me for now and not sure which one to go with. - mini ITX custom built PC with ThermalTake Core V1 case, intel i7-6700k, 16GB DDR4, 1TB SSD, Nvidia GeForce 970 4GB - New Alienware 13" i7-5500u, 16GB RAM,Nvidia 960 2GB + getting the graphics amplifier and install Nvidia 970 4GB in it - MSI GS30 Ghost with Nvidia 970 4GB in the dock - Macbook retina 13" 2.7GHz dual-core i5, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD + any eGPU that you guys recommend as long as it works with Mac OS - Thinkpad W541 and get some eGPU that works off the thunderbolt 2.0 For the mean time i have a 3000 CAD budget which is fine for all the systems i mentioned. I really liked the MacBook idea but 90% of the guys i saw implementing this system were using windows which i dont want to do if i'm buying a MacBook. What scares me in the Alienware is some people mentioned that the cable might end up throttling the performance of a high end eGPU. I would love to hear what you guys think of this.

  25. Setup: Macbook Air2015 with Thunderbolt 2 Connection on OS X 10.10.4 Akitio Thunder2 Nvidia 750 Tisc (One Fan) DellDA-2 Cable: Akitio Egpu 8 Pin to 2 x PCI E 6 Pin Super Low Profile No Latch 1 x Barrel | eBay The Akitio is powered by only the barrel plug The Monitoris plugged into the GPU. The set-up is working, and the card is recognized, but my FPS in games is about the same as my HD6000 I used the Script provided by Goalque: Mac OS X discussion The card uses about 75 watts, but a few people have reported the stock PSU is powerful enough to get the card started, but not if it gets under load. I'm not sure if plugging in the DellDA-2 is any different than the PSU included with the Akitio since I'm just plugging in the barrel plug. Do I need a powered riser? Also, when I look at the Nvidia web driver, it says the 750 Ti isn't supported even though its recognized. Is this just a problem with drivers? I don't know what to do!
