  1. Hi. I have a strange problem after applying a eGPU script (https://github.com/goalque/automate-eGPU/blob/master/automate-eGPU.sh). After reboot my imac 5k sees the card but screen resolution switches to a square in the middle of the screen. Like a half in width. I can't change it anyhow. I use akitio and evga GeForce 980ti hybrid. I have found this thread: http://forum.netkas.org/index.php?topic=11514.0 but this replacing kext completly breaks my system so i have to recover it from Time machine. any ideas anyone?
  2. Hello all, I recently put together my egpu configuration using the video below down to a T. Every part of my set up is in this video and I've done exactly like this guy has said to make my set up. I've gotten my egpu to work finally by plugging in the thunderbolt2 cord when both the MacBook and egpu are powered down. Then I power on my back into the selection screen to choose windows or mac. Then I turn on my egpu and hope for the best. I've found this works about 30-40% of the time so if someone has a way to increase my chances feel free to comment. I'm using a MacbookPro 13in Retina with dual core processor and Intel Iris 6100 (Late 2015 MacBookPro 13in retina). Anyways once I am booted into windows (I'm using windows to use the egpu on the internal screen because this was meant as more of a mobile device) and I've checked the device manager to make sure the gtx960 is working properly (sometimes I get "no drivers are installed for this device and I have to reboot and try again) I try and run a game. I use WoW as a test for my graphics card. I have msi afterburner installed and I play WoW off an external HDD since I have the 128gb version of the MacBook pro. When the graphics card is working and I'm playing a game for a while the game will suddenly crash and I'll get the BSOD with the error NVLDDMKM.SYS. Does anyone know how to fix this error? Other than that the fan boots up when at 60degrees Celsius like it should. I'm using windows 10 with the driver 369.90 for nvida which is the most recent so if anyone has a fix for this error it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The graphics card fan never starts to spin. I monitor afterburner and at 50degrees celsius it still hasn't kicked on. I've only upped the graphics on WoW to about half 5/10 and after a few minutes of being on that setting the game crashes and I get a blue screen telling me there was a problem with windows. I'm at a loss and really upset since I've payed 400-500$ for this and it's not working and has given me a lot of trouble. There has to be someone out there who has this set up and dealt with this issue. I can't be the only one. I think the graphics card tends to crash around 60 degrees celsius and even using msi afterburner I've tried to increase the fan speed but even at 100% the fan just tilts a little bit when I look at it and never takes off. When the system first turns on though the fan seems to spin at 100% but after about 20 seconds the fan stops even though the graphics card is detected. So if anyone has dealt with this issue or knows how to overcome it please let me know. I shouldn't have to buy anything else to make this work since the guy in this video seems to have his set up working just fine. Thanks in advance everybody. Ps. Please help!

  5. Hi, I am trying to run a GTX 970 as eGPU in my Dell XPS L502 and I ampassing through an specific problem. I'll sum up here what I did until now. For those who don't want to know this and go direct to the issue, my problem is with the PCI Compatcion, and yes, I'd already did the DSDT override. Well, back to what I already done (any difficulty to understand my text, it's because of my lack of practice in these kind of topics in english). I bought an EXP GDC Laptop External Independent Video Card Dock w/ PCI-E at DX.com; I am running the DYI eGPU 1.30, everything is installed correctly, etc. Specs/setup: Gigabyte GTX970 Gaming 1 x EXP GDC PCI-E adapter 1 x Mini PCI-E cable (80cm Length) 1 x ATX PSU power cable (11cm Length) Dell XPS L502x i7-2670 QM 16 Gb Ram 1333MHz SSD 480Gb + 750Gb Sata NVidia 540M 2Gb Considerations: If I restart/start my laptop with the eGPU On, I'll get black screen. But it works if I turn on the eGPU when it gives the option to select between the DYU and OS to start. At the DYI eGPU setup screen, I did these steps: call iport dGPU off call iport g1 1 call vidwait 60 10de:11c6 call vidinit -d 10de:11c6 call chainload mbr But when I am going to do the PCI compaction, it is not working, and I have tried a lot of different configurations. I searched what could I do, and I found the comment from andhie133128 in the page techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/5874-guide-dsdt-override-to-fix-error-12/&page=3 talking about the DSDT override and then loading the DSDT.aml updated file at the DOS in the DYI's setup screen with the command "PT MEM writefromfile 1 0xBAFF2000 DSDT.aml". Why 0xBAFF2000? Its what I have found with the RW-Everything software as my DSDT memory. As told in that post, I'd compacted the .aml with a smaller size than the original (from 36kb to 35kb - it's something =p) and then loaded it at the DOS. Everything worked fine, the " large memory showed up, no error at DOS, everything went well. The eGPU is recognized, I am able to stop my dGPU at the DYI setup screen, initialize the eGPU, the large memory is showing in my device manager, I am able to do the DSDT override (note: its easier to compact the file with an older version of the iasl), I'd imported and loaded it at DOS, but the PCI Compaction insists in not work. What I didn't and that may be the problem. I had not installed yet the gtx 970 driver before the PCI Compation and don't know if this have something related to the PCI compaction problem. Why didn't I tried it yet? I am with a huge amount of work now and I am using my laptop everyday and need some GPU to work, then I am keeping my 540M driver and was thinking in uninstall it when the PCI Compation works; or when I get done with my extra work and don't need so much the laptop everyday. One day, in the past (it's not my first time trying to do it), I went able to do the PCI compaction (only one time), and I think I did it when I used a different memory at the "PT MEM writefromfile" command. I think I confused something and used this memory instead: "ACPI -> RSDP -> 0x000F00E0; But few days later I had to format windows OS and lost the configuration. I had done the same steps that I told to be able to do that. But even with the PCI compaction done that time, I had formated the laptop before setting the eGPU to work 100%... Why didn't I have tried it again? Same problem, I am using the laptop everyday and in doubt about what can happen if I use this other memory. I don't even know for what this RSDP is used for. I found this topic from rossysaurus (https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/6413-17-dell-xps-l702x-gtx9704gbpsc-mpcie2-pe4c-21-win7-rossysaurus/) and I will try the same steps. But in case someone already had the same issues that I'm having, please help me solve this.
  6. The tuning process is very slow if one needs to reboot for each modification. Is there a better way? Thanks
  7. Hello forums of techinferno, I currently have a 13' 2015 macbook pro and have allways wanted a egpu to make it much more powerful. Every were I have searched people use mainly the AKiTiO Thunder2 box for connecting the gpu, this also brings many problems like the board not having enough power to supply to the card. And i am not into the idea of soldering the mains I have seen workarounds like the 'PCI-E 6-Pin to DC Barrel Plug' b but throwing on to the already 200 price tag seems like a lot… not to mention the thunder box not being big enough for some computers. So my question is what about the EXP GDC Beast? There is a mac version, however it requires opening my mac. as some one who also uses it as a laptop i do not like that idea a whole lot. Well i know that the exp gdc connects via a hdmi cord 'as strange as it sounds' to a number of things like Expresscard and mini pci-e, Yes i know there is a expresscard to thunderbolt adaptor but can i take it a step further and go strait from thunderbolt to hdmi? these are my main questions 1 does any one have experence with the exp gdc, and 2 can I go strait from hdmi to thunderbolt 2. The reasons that I like the exp gdc is a it can be powered strait of a power supply and it is cheap roughly $50 USD which is a great value. 8. Hello, I am having an issue with connecting 2 or more GPUs to the mac pro 6,1 with 10.11.6. Essentially I have a MAC PRO 2013 — thunderbolt Akito — Amfetec PCI Host card — Amfeltec PCI backplane — (2) 980ti. When I plug in the first 980ti, works fine. Second 980ti, doesnt boot. I used the script from this site and it worked fine for a single card. Any thoughts? Been going nuts.
  9. Hi guys, So recently I bought Exp Gdc v8. I have an old HD 6870 which was lying around and I tried eGPU setup with that card and it worked. So then I bought an Saphirre Rx 470 Platinum and tried it with the same method however my laptop stuck at black screen. So I cannot use bios or enter Setup 1.30. Btw my laptop is MSI GE60 0ND. So what might be the problem? Maybe the card is too new for EXP GDC? I don't know...
  10. Hi all, I'm looking to sell a PE4L V2.1b (Expresscard Version) and GTX750. I have used them both reliably on my Thinkpad X230t, achieving x1.2Opt and able to run pretty much any game decently well, for the past year without any issues. This setup works great as a portable setup since the GTX750 doesn't require external power. I recently bought a desktop so I have no further need for them. Here is a link to the graphics card. I'm looking to sell the PE4L for $60 (got it for $70) and the GTX750 for $70 (got it for $90) or $120 for both, with a flat rate of $5 for shipping. Here's a picture of my previous setup that I was running off the eGPU. If you have any questions or want more pictures of the parts, please PM me! Thanks!
  11. UPDATE: It is now available on Amazon. https://amzn.com/B01K5Z13I2 Hi guys, Just wanted to share this with you guys! If yall been waiting for a Thunderbolt 3 version. https://www.akitio.com/press-releases/2016/akitio-unveils-thunder3-pcie-box MSRP $299.99 Available sometime this month.
  12. Hello everyone, thanks to this site i have got a old laptop working with a eGPU. my set up 8.0 GDC beast vidock, EVGA GTX 750ti, 430W psu HP 8440p. Now while playing a games my FPS is very stable and really decent. My problem arises while doing other activities such as browsing the web or youtube. It seems my computer slows down A lot while connected to the eGPU system. I attached some tests I thought would be helpful. If you require anything else please ask. Thanks and love this forum for letting me game on my old as hell laptop! Would overclocking help in anyway? Thanks in advance for anyone reading this.
  13. Hello everyone! I finally got my eGPU setup working after many endless hours, and decided to write and implementation guide for users struggling with similar setups. Notebook Details 13" Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E330 i3-3120M 2.5Ghz HD4000 iGPU 8 GB RAM Windows 8.1 eGPU Gear EXP GDC Beast v8.0 eGPU adapter with mPCIe cable lead 450W Corsair CX450M PSU Gainward GTX 670 Phantom edition 2GB GDDR5 225W TDP Performance Results will include later Now for the build itself... Implementation Guide As Lenovo Thinkpad Edge's TOLUD is 3,5GB leading to Windows error 12, and Lenovo is well known for using whitelisting, the build might seem like a lost cause. However when there is a will, there will eventually be a way. 1.Error 12 !!! DO A BACKUP FIRST !!! To overcome the error 12 I followed the guide on this thread: Windows 8.1 and 10 users please note that you have to run the following command as and Admin user in command prompt bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON 2.Whitelisting Now we only have to overcome the whitelisting. The only way to overcome it elegantly is with a bios mod. However you are only able to install bios mod if you have bios version 1.09 or older as Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E330's bioses 1.12-> have EEPROM write protection thus installing a bios mod requires certain flashing device and an skilled user. As bios modding is a dangerous thing to do, and can lead into a seriously overpriced paperweight (your laptop!!), I myself didn't feel the urge to do it. I settled for hotswapping: Boot the laptop with whitelisted WIFI card attached > Boot into setup 1.30 menu > hit F5 > carefully remove the WIFI card and attach the eGPU and voila! Setup 1.30 should now detect your eGpu 3.Booting to windows After succesfully completing a DSDT override, and overcoming the whitelisting, now what is left to do is to boot into Setup 1.30 (using above hotswapping method or not if you have a bios mod) and run a pci compaction 36-bit on eGPU and then chainload to windows and start gaming (YEAHH!!!! THAT'S RIGHT BITHCES) #OPTIONAL# (4.Almost forgot) As Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E330 has an half-miniPCIe slot I removed a tiny piece of plastic to make the EXP GDC mPCIe adapter fit better #OPTIONAL# I myself got a huge gaming boost out of this and enjoyed doing it, however your mileage may vary... Thanks to: @Tech Inferno Fan for setup 1.30 and eGPU threads @angerthosenear for DSDT override guide
  14. Hello. I am trying to setup this configuration but I am not very sure about the internal display working on Ubuntu. Although the wiki page for optimus mentions that this technology works for Windows and Linux. But I am yet to find any implemention of this setup. Would welcome your valuable suggestions.
  15. Is there a way to use eGPU on external display with lid closed in Windows 10? Because if I close the lid now, the system starts lagging badly. Even simple animations like opening a folder or making a selection with a mouse are dramatically slow. How to eliminate this performance drop, when closing a lid?
  16. Hi all! I've searched the forums without luck. I've completed my Mac mini monster setup: Mac mini 2014 os X 10.11.6 i5 2,8Ghz 16GB RAM 2 x SSD (Sata3 + PCIe) Akitio with Nvidia GTX 970 4GB Everything works like a dream, it is incredible but... when the Mac mini sleep for a long time it doesn't wake up anymore, it seems like it turn of completely. For example i left my Mac mini few hours ago since i needed to go to bed, this morning the Mac mini was turned off. Can it be a kernel panic? Can it be sleep mode? Any hint? Thanks so much!
  17. This is probably the first trial online involving a TB3 to TB adapter. Update on Noon July 23rd 2016: works seamlessly with an external monitor. However, whenever I select Duplicate in projection mode, the rendering will be carried out on iGPU/dGPU(if you do not disable it) Update on Morning July 23rd 2016: Turns out the Optimus is only working for Furmark. i.e. No game would run on GTX970. Nor would 3DMark. It seems an external monitor is still a necessary fix. What's working: system recognizes gpu driver installed no problem on external screen [Partially] Optimus working, just don't disable the GTX960M in Device Manager. Only works for Furmark. Background In the spring, I came to the States for one-semester exchange. I obviously couldn't get myself a full-size gaming rig, so I chose to build an eGPU with my MBPr13 2015. I got my AkiTio Thunder 2 and GTX970 then, for about $500. Later in the summer, I purchased a XPS15 (discussed by the low-voltage cpu in my MBPr 13), was enthralled by its borderless display. It came with a TB3 port, but the only option out there for TB3 is Razer Core, another $500 investment. In the mean time, A few TB3 to TB adapters rolled out, currently only Kanex and StarTech.com models available, for around $80-100. I asked a bunch of questions regarding AkiTio Thunder 2 + TB3-TB adapter + eGPU on Amazon but no luck. So I decided to get one myself and try it out. About the adapter I got it on amazon for $100. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EJ4XL08/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. In fact the StarTech.com one is 20 bucks cheaper, and I believe they should harness similar technology under the hood, but I would trust Kanex for I have already owned their USB3.0 hub and it worked pretty well. The hardware setup (Picture coming soon, when I get back dorm) The software setup Download the newest NVIDIA driver. update the TB3 firmware and TB3 management software on Dell.com, or as instructed on https://thunderbolttechnology.net/updates per manufacturer. In the UEFI settings, turn on all the checkboxes in Thunderbolt tab, and make sure the thunderbolt security settings is set to lowest (Cuz Akitio Thunder 2 is not verified for TB3). Or you can manually consent in windows, if the security level is normal. Plug the setup in, and power on. Windows should boot just fine. Use display driver uninstaller to remove the old drivers. http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html Install the newest driver downloaded in step 1 reboot, and you should be able to see all three graphics card in Device Manager. (Intel 530, GTX960M, GTX970). You are free to disable GTX960M, but that doesn't help anything so far. :-( Result summary Geforce experience recognizes GTX970 no problem NVIDIA Control Panel recognizes all three with no problem. Under internal display, no game would run with GTX970, even after disabling GTX960M. GTX970 shows up properly in the GPU indicator, but it's always 'inactive' It works! Just don't disable GTX960M, and tasks will be automatically assigned to GTX970 when needed. Only works for Furmark. No games and 3D Mark would work. External monitor works flawlessly. Can't get 'duplicate' projection mode to work though. Trying to fix the internal display (Optimus) problem As my MP-CL1 micro projector seems to defect, I've no access to external display yet to test the card out. And I'm not yet able to get the eGPU running on internal display either. What I have tried: modifying the nvidia driver per this video, with no avail. [in progress] just purchased this headless hdmi plug to simulate a dummy display, and use Win+P with screen share option. [just contemplating] maybe should get Razer driver to work? But Razer Synapse should only recognize Razer Core, so need a side-door. They say the driver is open-source, but I cannot find it on Github anyway. Just don't disable GTX960M and it partially works (only for furmark). Maybe furmark is rendering the content internally and pipe the image out through a different gpu manually? Windows 8.1 not working. I just installed a copy on my SanDisk SSD 500 external SSD. GTX970 cannot co-exist with GTX960M, and disabling GTX960M still doesn't enable rendering on GTX970. With external display Will update once I get my MP-CL1 working (hopefully it's just a drained battery), or when I get back to Hong Kong. Just remembered there's a common area in my dorm with a TV. Got to try it out some time. Tried out on the TV, able to achieve ~20000 on Sky Diver. With GTX960M it's around half
  18. I have a setup almost identical to this build: 1. AKiTiO Thunder2 PCIe Box 2. EVGA GeForce GTX 750Ti with G-SYNC Support 2GB GDDR5 128bit, Dual-Link 3. GameMax GM450 OEM (GM-450) - 450W power supply 4. Macbook Pro Retina 13 (2013) I installed the latest drivers from the EVGA website. I connected external display via HDMI and can see my card in Device Manager. The problem is under a smallest load (starting a game or Unigine Heaven test), the whole system freezes, picture from the external display disappears, although fan on graphic card is still going. Any ideas how this can be fixed? I took power from the Molex connector. Could that be the problem?
  19. Hi, I'm using a 2015 MBPr 15" (running windows 10 through bootcamp), with a gtx 1070 plugged into an akitio thunder 2, which plugs in to the thunderbolt port on my laptop. I tried to install the drivers, but the installation software cant recognize the gpu plugged into the thunderbolt port. It also doesn't show in device manager. Interestingly enough, several new things appear in device manager, under system devices, several PCI upstream and PCI downstream switch ports are connected, which seem to be from the thunder2. The lights on the GPU itself change depending on whether or not it is plugged into the thunderbolt port, and I'm certain that it's getting enough power from my PSU. Can anyone help me get this set up? Thanks
  20. anyone seen this? http://www.netstor.com.tw/_03/03_02.php?MTE2# with 3 pcie slots it looks like it could fit a graphics card without having to bend the case or have another enclosure.... no word on pricing yet though..
  21. I have a problem with setting 1.3. when i disable my dGPU, it stopped. not freeze but didn't do any progression. so i did another one, demoting my dGPU and when i demote my dGPU, it didn't go to main menu... Do i need usb boot? If i have to,how do i make usb bootable 'DIY eGPU setting 1.3'??
  22. Thanks in advance.. My egpu is not working at full power after i recently completely uninstalled all drivers and re installed them.. I have a work around which is just doing a clean uninstall and reinstalling the drivers. it is getting tiresome every time i boot up my computer or the display turns off it messes up, please help!! i have a dell e6420 which has an intel 3000 and a nvs 4200m integrated,(gtx 660 external) but this problem arised after i clean uninstalled and the nvs 4200m appeared back in my display adapter list i'm not sure what happened and it seems like the graphics cards are working but the gtx 660 is only working about %35 .. any help or ideas are welcome!
  23. Does anyone know if the T530 or T430 run a 1x Pci-e 3.0 link when an ExpressCard eGPU solution is used (like the PE4C V3.0 is used?) Or does it still run at 2.0 speeds? There should be 16x 3.0 lanes available on the CPU dies of Ivy Bridge mobile processors as they are just the desktop processors, but I am not sure if Lenovo wired the ExpressCard slot to this or the slower 2.0 lanes provided by the chipset.
  24. Hey guys, I just bought an eGPU Adapter for my Medion Akoya Laptop. It has an ATI dGPU and i attached a Nvidia eGPU to it. It works great so far. But i can't seem to get the internal display working. I mean the internal display works but i guess the dGPU still processes the internal Display. Is there a way to get the eGPU process the internal display?
  25. I am new to e-GPU, and am not to sure if my laptop can handle it (sorry if this is in the wrong forum). I currently have an Alienware M15x (Please see the spoiler for a pic, because I know that sometimes people get that one confused with the older model m15 model). It has a Core I7 740QM and an open Express card slot, with the option of removing the WiFi card and run a network cable to my router if needed. Is this able to handle an e-GPU, because I read in another forum (but it was slightly confusing) that it was not able to work. I would just like some clarification on this please.
