  1. So with the unlocked BIOS for the Y500. Has anyone gotten a pcie mini card to work? Broadband WWAN anyone? I am not seeing any new devices in device manager when I put a Gobi3000 in. Maybe there is a card that is easier to get working? Does PCI-E work at all?
  2. I did a bunch of random stuff. There was some post somewhere in the tread that spoke of pressing the power button as you connect power.

So remove the battery >>>Plug in the USB Stick with DOS and PRR.... all the flashing goodies into the same port that was used to flash previously>>>> wait like 30 seconds >>> hold down the power button >>>> and reconnect power.

That caused my computer to boot and i immediately pressed f12 >>> booted into DOS and reflashed my backup.

To check to see if the flash works the test that I used was check the keyboard light shortcut. If you press the fn plus I think it is spacebar key the keyboard lights should turn off /on if they are working your flash was successful from what I remember. If it does not work after your flash do not shutdown again. USE CTRL ALT DEL to shut down / restart and retry!

Good luck. I don’t know if it will work for you it worked for me.

  3. Fair enough, I bricked my system, but the fn-b bios recovery method is not something people should seen as reliable. Lenovo said they would fix it. Knowing me ill probably try and flash it again haha, Svl, Is it true that if your default bios is 8.0 you use the 8.0 mod and if your bios is 8.1 you use the 8.1 mod? Just trying to define my error so I avoid it next time.
  4. It is sophisticated AND crippled. The reason they white list is for monopoly. If Lenovo can guarentee Intel that their laptop will only support Intel wireless chipsets, then they will discount their prices. Those discounted prices are how Lenovo sells it so cheap. That's why its the best cost to performance machine you can get right now. The manufacturer, the old IBM guys, are smart cookies, and they are still building these things. Ideapads are crippled... AND sophisticated.
  5. So your bios bricked my computer. I've been speaking with some people and they are telling me Lenovo uses collpsable bioses. IBM is not your average laptop company, they make sophisticated hardware. Fortunately they will repair it for some 150$ bucks... Warning: fn-b recovery methods for the y480 may not work. Trust me I have been trying for days. Use this bios at your own risk.
  6. my original version (which I still have) is 8.0, I flashed with 8.1mod which in hindsight was probably the wrong one. I should have used 8.0mod on my 8.0 bios. This is likely the cause of the blank screen at boot. Now I am trying the fn+b reset, but I hear no beeping. I am using an SSD hard drive so there is no sound to tell me if its loading. Neither Lenovo nor searches about the motherboard seem to yield results about what key combo to use. I am going off of the fn+b because I dont have any other option. Are you sure this is correct? I'll see what the hard drive light does in the mean time. Thanks for the support.
  7. Hey how did you get past the blank screen for the y480? I'm in that boat now

  8. Hi everyone, this is my first post on the forums so be nice to the new guy? Brief overview of my problem: I have a brand new y480, I followed the bios flash to a T. Everything worked without error, but when I rebooted I got nothing on the monitor so I disassembled. I found what I am pretty sure is the watch battery with a bright blue ring around it, desoldered it, waited for 10 minutes and resoldered it. I figured this would set the bios back to original state. After reassembly I still have no picture. I'm usually pretty good with this stuff but I'm at a loss now. I hope I didn't brick it. Any ideas? Thanks for taking the time to read this. -Matthew
