  1. Go into BIOS and check if you are on AHCI or IDE mode, try to change it and see if it will detect your HDD. One more thing, try not to reboot but to completely shut down and then power on again.

Tried that. HP is sooo limited. You can't do anything. The only things you can do is literally change the boot options / time / and diagnostics ... nothing else.

  2. This is really only a free fall protection, shouldn't affect reinstalling Windows. Go to the BIOS and load the default settings, then reboot and try installing again.

it is at default settings. I never changed anything in there. HDD isn't detected in the bios either (please note it boots into windows fine and restores to factory settings fine) This is the default HDD that came with HP

  3. Hey guys,

I just received my dv6z-6100 (LK237AV) today and I wanted to do a fresh install of windows 7 but it cannot find the HDD to install windows 7 on. It asks for drivers and cannot detect any HDD to install windows 7 on. What's the problem?

P.S I tried the same HDD on another desktop and HP laptop and use the same win7 disk and it can detect it just fine...

would "HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection" have anything to do with it? Let's say someone stole the laptop and tries to install fresh win7 onto it so this is how it prevents them? O.o or is it just for free fall protection etc.?

  4. Was this a good deal? Please note I called in to "cancel" and they offered and extra $75 to keep the system.

I bought my M14X for 850 + tax - I can sell this baby easily for 1200 and buy sager for 910. This way I gain some profit and a 1080p screen. The only thing I lose is the backlit alienfx light ;/ - should I do it? It's pretty much same specs except smaller HDD but I will replace that with my SSD anyways.

  6. Ok I just tried it with the first stick. Now it's on. But we still have a problem. When I tried the first stick in the first 2 slots it did not show anything on the screen. So does that mean the mobo is busted with the first 2 slots?

    Edit:

Ok wtf I got into the bios and saw that the CPU got to 112C before it shut down. CPU Cooler failing? Why? The only thing I changed was zip tying it to the CPU Power cable.

    Edit 2:

WTF! After quickly setting up the bios (boot priorities etc.) and saving now the CPU cooler is working (at 37C)...

  7. Hey guys,

I upgraded to the Corsair H50 cooler and now nothing is showing up on screen. At first after changing it everything boots up fine and loaded into windows but the next day nothing is showing up on screen. I'm pretty sure everything is plugged in correctly. I've tried resetting CMOS. Changing the RAM slots made it boot into windows but when I shut it down and tried turning it on again it will not.

    I'm using:

    XFX 680i LT mobo

    Q6600 @ 3.2Ghz G0

    GTS 250 512MB XFX

    SLI OCZ RAM 4 (2x2) GB PC6400

    750watts OCZ

    Please help
