  1. Hey, it's me again I tried to flash the new E16FKAMS.D0G BIOS on my gx60 3ae (hitman edition. richland apu, but still 7970, not 8970) und now my windows only boots in secure-mode (or whatever it's name is, in english.. german it's "Abgesicherter Modus"). I had E16FKAMS.D06 before. Eralier I read a lot about different bioses for differend harddrive configurations. Now the russian website (i got mine from russia) and the us-website have the same bios, the D0G but it doesn't seem to work O-o Any experiences? Sorry, if this looked offtopic, I thought some might know.. But I also have some interesting informations for those who halfbricked their notebooks: Yesterday I had it in this state again: AFUDOS.EXE E16FKAMS.D0G /P /N /K /RECOVERY. It rebootet, screen black but access to all connected drives, at least after Ctrl+Home while restarting. But it didn't load the bios from cd or flashdrive. The solution was quite simple: Disconnect the battery/cable on the mainboard to flush the settings. Deleting the settings triggers the notebook to search for another BIOS on any drive, if it's named properly. Still not sure which it wants: the name I entered ( ~.D0G ), the name the bios before had ( ~.D06 ) or AMIBOOT.ROM, because I had all of them on the drive just to make sure, the damn thing will live again. But then after about 30sec it rebooted into the new BIOS. Good luck to you!
  2. Sorry that I didn't answer for some time: I had a USB drive with a FAT-floppy-bootable-image-something (there are tools on the web to make a bootable USB-drive..) and the BIOS. And I had a CD that had nothing but the BIOS. My BIOS-Version is for Richland E16FKAMS.D06 -> my modded Version of it has the same versionnumber. So I amed the original one (I made backups earlier..) "E16FKAMS.D06", put it on USB-drive and CD, put both in the notebook and between different tries I just let the notebook run as I read for further ideas how to recover on my pc. It tool 10-15mins to reboot into a working BIOS from USB/CD and I don't where it was taken from. All I can say is: you can try the same. Put your BIOS on bootable USB and on CD, connect USB, put in the CD, hold the buttons (ctrl+home? i think.. for me it was ctrl+fn+pgUp), holding the buttons start the notebook and wait, still holding the buttons. The best with the CD is: you definitelly hear it. It spins loud at the beginning, gets quieter then. That is normal. But if you still hold the buttons after some time it starts to spin again -> something inside your BIOS is still alive enough to try to read from CD -> win. Release the buttons and wait. 10-15mins. If it doesn't reboot into the BIOS, try a different version or filename or both. // Another qestion: I can't flash =/ This is how I got in that dilemma. AFUDOS and AFUWIN both say Error 18 (or was it 19? Is some time ago since i tried for the last time) not able to start a secure session. This comes when I try to flash the modded BIOS but this also comes when I try to flash the BIOS I just read out with the same tool (and which recovered me once). Is this recovery mode my only solution? =/ As i tried last time nothing moved for maybe 2mins so I thought it's dead and turned my PC off -> half-dead-brick that needed the USB, CD and all of that. Why doesn't it work like it was meant to do? =/
  3. I have a GX60 and I recovered my BIOS by naming the files on CD/USB like the BIOS that was on the Notebook / like the BIOS that failed flashing normally: "E6FKAMS.D06" Find out the right name for your BIOS, put in the CD / plug in the USB-Drive and wait and hope. Mine restarted after 10-15mins with the new BIOS in some rescue-mode.
  4. You need to name it either as your old BIOS-version or the new, you want to flash (in my case it was the same). But great to hear that you still have activity. Try to hold Ctrl+Home before turning on and then hold for about 1minute. And then, if you have any activity in the beginning wait again. 15mins maybe.. I think for me cd worked because in the boot-order cd was on top. But that's just speculating. Get a clean BIOS and good luck to you!
  5. @srw134: I tried to mod the BIOS for my GX60 by myself and I think I did everything right but AFUDOS always told "error 18, not able to start a secure session" or something. I tried with /RECOVERY and whatever it did or not looked dead to me. So I rebootet -> black screen. So what I noticed then: When turned on for a very long time (10min?) the USB-Stick-LED started to show some activity. I read more about these BIOSes: I have an AMI Aptio UEFI Bios. You need the same version of BIOS as you already had and it should have it version-number as name. For me E16FKAMS.D06 as filename for the BIOS (4mb filesize). I don't know what helped as I had both a CD with nothing but this BIOS-file and a USB-Stick. Start the notebook and wait. If really nothing happens then it's dead. My notebook showed HDD-activity at the very early bootstate -> something was alive! After some time the CD started to run (again, maybe 10mins after booting). They also say that holding Ctrl+Home before turning on and holding for some time until you recognize that something inside is working should force this blind recovery. I don't know what it was but after 10-15min with CD and USB-Stick with the BIOS-image it rebooted into the BIOS with a new menu for recovering BIOS (recovery mode). Pressed enter to flash this BIOS -> reboot. Everything like it was before Hope this helps you and maybe someone else. I didn't expect it to take THAT MUCH TIME. About 10-15mins to load that BIOS-file from CD (i guess it was the CD as it was running...) and loading it. Maybe this blackscreen after AFUDOS filename /p /RECOVERY was the same "blindflashing" and I, stupid as I am, cancelled it by rebooting -.- Does anyone know what to do with this Error 18 of AFUDOS? Is /RECOVERY bad? Did anyone use AFUWIN? I killed another notebook once by flashing from Windows. But it was an ASUS-tool and I read a lot about these.. After it's killed, you read a lot, yes -.- 70€ for a new flash... So I'm very carefull now
  6. Well, as I know that you don't have much time I tried to google and find the tools and tutorials I need. But I failed Here is the BIOS I have copied with AFUWIN: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/43556081/e16fkams_d.06_03-05-2013.rar My notebook is an MSI GX60 3AE-087 with A10-5750m APU, 1x8GB RAM, 1x500GB HDD, AMD 7970m, no keyboard illumination, Win8 SL, russian. If anybody wants to update his A10-4600m with a Richland-APU I think this is the BIOS you'll need. I wasn't able to open this BIOS with any tool i could find to check for hidden menues but I also couldn't open your GX60-BIOS-version. So I think I just have too old tools =/ (a lot of them won't open on a 64-bit OS D: ) I hope, you can find some time to unlock the hidden menues in this one ^^
  7. Heyho again. Now I am a prowd owner of a GX60 Hitman edition and also wanted to test another memory (as the A10-5750m supports 1866-memory and only 1600 is installed, which is a difference for the iGPU..) and maybe other overclocking or undervolting-options. Here's the newest BIOS for this notebook: http://eu-demo.msi.com/product/nb/GX60-Hitman-Edition.html#/?div=Firmware&nbos=win8 If you find some time, i'd love to test this BIOS unlocked and maybe some others too (or maybe someone wants to test a 5750m-APU on a GX 4600m. This BIOS should support it )
  8. http://www.coolaler.com/showthread.php/301778-全世界首發-MSI-GX60改上AMD-A10-5750M This is the link I was talking about. Sorry, I was on another pc last time Do you think, you can make this BIOS? ^^
  9. Did you also see that chinese thread, where one guy replaced the 4600 with a 5750 on a GX60?As far as Google-Translator helped me to understand, he wrote something about a BIOS-Update. I was also wondering, whether a modification is needed or a simple Update from MSI-website is enough.
  10. I am currently looking for a nice Notebook with an A10- or A8-APU. As I want a Full-HD-screen I'm very interested in the Asus U38N. I read some tests of the U38DT with a dGPU (HD 8550m) and they say it throttles a lot. Under load their A8 went below stock-frequency and stayed somewhere at 1,6GHz. But maybe the dGPU is heating the 13"-notebook to much. Does anybody own a U38N with the ULV A10- or A8-APU without any other gpus? What are your experiences? Does it throttle? Can you undervolt? Can you overclock or lock a turbo-state?
  11. Heyho, I'm new here I want to buy an MSI GX60 and read about your BIOS. Did anyone manage to use 1866 or 2133 ram with this notebook? Because on battery the 7660g-performance would rise dramatically with better memory and of course the whole system would be a bit faster.. In the first post you said something about the memory-support but does this work for the GX60? I thould about Kingston HyperX (grey ones) 2x4GB DDR3-2133 kit, 1.5V, cl10 or cl11 as far as I remember..
