  1. Yes I know. Although the E6430 is heavier it is a better choise since it is x2 2.0 capable (maybe x4 2.0) and its WWAN port is not whitelisted... It was very easy to set port 1 & 3 of my hp 6470b @ x2 2.0 but it was useless. I also tried to enable a reverse x4 2.0 but the card reader in port 3 would get it the way. Let's hope it would be an easy job. I am afraid it would require to take this apart...

EDIT: I also found out that the reason that I lost my internal screen was because when I set my Always Enable PEG at Disabled, then soft booted, Optimus selection under the Video Section of my BIOS dissappeared and also disabled (realised that after setting AEP to Auto and cold reboot). That's why it booted but it couldn't show anything to any screens connected on my HD4000 since Optimus was disabled. <del>I should find the value that sets Optimus Enable and try to set that to enable after I disable my Quadro.</del> That's why I grabbed that. According to my speculations it could even achieve an x4 2.0 link if I manage to take advantage of port 4 Emodule II (ODD) It was a bargain @ 200$ since it came with 900p, WWAN 4G, Intel 6205. I just have mixed feelings cause it is the dGPU model... I was hoping I could completely disable it using this trick but... impossible. Question: Is there any easier way to unlock the flash descriptor as in my HP with the key combination? I just hope I don't have to completely take this apart to find my ALC chip. (I have the schematics so it is gonna be easier)

RE: http://forum.techinferno.com/dell-latitude-vostro-precision/6980-14-dell-latitude-e6440-owners-lounge-4.html#post111145 I tried today to disable dGPU on my recently purchased Dell E6430 (NVS5200M UEFI win 8.1 64) using this experimental method cause when I tried to disable dGPU with Setup 1.x (legacy W7 64 installation) my computer would inexplicably freeze upon boot. The result was to completely lose my internal screen functionality upon next cold boot (I didn't have my eGPU connected atm). After disabling the PEG (using command setup_var 0x187 0x2) my internal screen wouldn't light. I tried to use amy flash light to see if it was only the backlight that was off but I realised that it was completely off. Windows 8.1 booted normally ( I could here the sound of Skype loading) but I couldn't use neither the internal screen or any other external output (VGA, HDMI). I finally managed to revert the setting blindly (F12 and testing each boot device until I booted my UEFI USB flash drive and type setup_var 0x187 0x0). I wouldn't recommend this method to disable the dGPU at least on a Dell E6430 as it could probably brick the machine. Note: If anyone else wants to try this, have in mind that the default BIOS setting on a E6430 for boot is legacy mode and if you try to remove your CMOS battery to revert BIOS default it could completely brick your device.
  4. @KhenglishNothing changed. I tried reflashing your me fw bin and reinstalling XTU versions. According to the reference image you uploaded here , reference clock is in its place, but greyed and Intel Me key icon is missing (bad ME?) This may sound stupid, but I just check on your first post and every other Ivy Bridge system that succeeded uses an qm77 chipset. Is it possible that Intel "locked" XTU and it doesn't work on HM76 chipset? Is there anyone with an HM76 chipset that succeeded?
  5. I put the file you uploaded in my Setup 1.x disk image and flashed so there is no way I flashed a wrong image. After flashing I shut down removed battery and power and installed XTU 3.1. I also tried 4 4.1 4.2 & 4.3... The bar is grey and there is no slider. I will try again later today and post my results
  6. Thanks a lot for your reply. I flashed the file you made using fpt with DOS. Unfortunately I have the same result as with my try. Grey sliders on Reference clock and locked @ 100MHz. I tried XTU 3.1, 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3. Any ideas? Should I reformat my laptop? Would it help? Thanks again.

Welcome Wayfare, Since you travel a lot and size and weight are of great importance to you, I would suggest that you get a mini ITX GTX970 and save some space and money to invest into a quad 15" Macbook. You can check @ Implementations that there is no big performance difference between 970 and 980. As you can see here (thanks to Tech Inferno Fan) most of them fit in an AKiTiO expansion box and if I am not mistaken some can even rely for the power draw from the slot to the 25W AKiTiO provides, while you use the Dell DA-2 for the 2 x 6-pin power requirements. You can check for more info here. This way you have a nice portable setup saving space and weight in your backpack.
  9. As you can see 1920x1200 are much better than 2880x1800 (except from 3dMark06). I suspect that if you set a lower internal screen resolution (let's say 1440x900 - most benchmarks use lower resolution) you will have much better internal screen scores.
  10. Hyperperformance is supposed to predict which frames (or rendering tasks) will never be shown and take them out so the GPU can work on what is needed. You can read the anandtech verdict here: " HyperFormance increases responsiveness and makes FPS meaningless. In order to work, HyperFormance will only make a difference if your normal frame rate is greater than your refresh rate, usually 60 FPS." As it is shown in this review too by tweakdown.com you won't see any performance gain unless your framerate is already over your screen's refresh rate (usually 60Hz). If it is lower it will make it worse. LucidLogix has admitted that they used a special version for 3DMark benchmarks (I can't find the source right now), and that's why 3DMark decided to mark every test that uses Virtu (3DMark to get Lucid HyperFormance support - The Tech Report). You can see it in your tests... All in all, you may see performance gain or losses and sometimes experience stuttering, but it is up to you to use HyperPerformance or not. Keep in mind that the results are artificial. Internal/External screens results for 3dmark06 and 13 would be helpful for other users. I could fill in the blanks to the original post for other users reference.

Although Nvidia (with Optimus driver) when paired with an Intel onboard GPU can drive the internal screen at reasonable frame rates @ x1 2.0, ATI hasn't provided such driver solution yet. And, here comes the Virtu Driver. It is a 3rd party solution designed originally for Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge desktop systems which renders the image with the eGPU and displays on the iGPU. Virtu Driver 3.0.109 silent upgrade, can also be installed on laptops!!! Pre-requisities for Virtu functionality laptop with Intel 6, 7 and 8 series chipset with iGPU enabled. modern ATI GPU Internal screen for ATI Radeon HDs only? I am discussing about ATI GPUs cause Nvidia Fermi already have a solid Internal Screen solution and older Nvidia GPUs are not officially supported by the Virtu Driver. So we are actually talking for HD Radeon 4xxx, 5xxx, 6xxx, 7xxx and Rx-2xx. The official driver was not originally designed for notebooks and up to the previous version (3.0.107)it was almost impossible to install on a laptop, unless you had a desktop computer (check out nando's guide above). The installer would hang with this message. BUT with the latest update Virtu MVP 2.0 (3.0.109.29300) it will install even on an laptop PC a 30-day evaluation copy with HyperFormance and Virtual Vsync. It seems though that they don't sell it to customers anymore (I couldn't find any place to order it) How to install The setup is very easy. THIS STEP IS VERY IMPORTANT. UPDATE YOUR INTEL iGPU DRIVER TO THE LATEST DRIVER PROVIDED BY INTEL. It seems to solve most problems (if not all of them). On some machines you need to open Device Manager, manually uninstall the device reboot and then you will be able to install Intel driver. After you have finished driver setup of your eGPU reboot. Install Virtu Driver (after you attach your eGPU) and reboot. And here we go... Experience so far Although the first driver that Lucidlogix provided had many-many problems it seems like most of the problems have stopped and internal screen mode works without problems. I won't discuss here about HyperFormance since there are indications by other desktop and eGPU users that it does provide artificial results. On the latest driver they also gave the user the opportunity to change the settings for the floating icon, even disable it. I set this always on for benchmarks so I can be sure that it was running and my eGPU was rendering the screen. The only problem that I encountered was that I 3Dmark11 and 3Dmark13 would hang most of the time for no apparent reason. This hang also happens with older Virtu driver 1.2.114 so it could be something that has to do with my laptop. I could only ran a full 3Dmark11 test without problems and a custom 3Dmark13 test. Everything else that I tested works fine. Verdict As I have said in previous review of the product internal screen performance is limited by bandwidth. Previous results that I had with x1 1.0 gave unplayable results, while @ x1 2.0 it varies with an average of 30% lower than the external screen. On the other hand using TB @ x4 2.0 (thanks to goalque) shows that the performance difference is minor (~13%), and any user with an AMD Radeon card can enjoy internal screen gaming at very reasonable framerates.

  13. UPDATE: Seems like there was a mistake in the panellook.com site. This screen seems to be an 768p. I even confirmed with a seller who had the exact same part Number. You are right. But it is not available apart from a few chinese sellers. Most trustworthy sellers sell a combatible 768p screen. link . .
  14. According to E6430 schematic PCI-E port 4 is wired to the E3 Module Bay. On schematic page 29 E3 Module is supposed to wire to JSATA2 which happens to be the ODD connector. There is a close up of E6430 motherboard near the ODD connector where we can see that JSATA2 connector is a standard connector. From what I get, E-module Bay II is supposed to carry USB 3.0 ports based on an PCI-E chip. Is it possible that this will be used for both SATA signal and/or PCI-E signal? EDIT: JSATA2 is a double sided connector with SATA and power on the one side and pcie signal on the other. It seems that a mini pcie PM3N connector physically fits. It should be investigated further if it works. UPDATE: To avoid any misunderstanding x4 2.0 is still a work under progress. There is no proof, yet, that it works! If this is not only on papers, this mean that Dell E6430 is capable of a "clean" solution @ x2 2.0 (8Gbps) using the Expresscard (port 3) and a custom DIY connector from ODD caddy (or sata) to HDMI to connect to PE4C, all this without opening your laptop. And maybe an x4 2.0 (16Gbps) connection using WWAN (port 1) WLAN (port2) EC (port3) and E3 Module (port4) with a custom made connector. Offcourse all this could happen if there is a way to enable flashing the machines Descriptor Region with fitc/fpt. On my 6470b it was fairly easy (thanks to your contribution) using ⊞ Win + ← + → on boot, but I got like all Probooks/Elitebooks (I realised that after I got my 6470b) unfavorable position for the ports 1 & 3. The 6470b PCIe port layout is shown in the spoiler: The results of Descriptor Region manipulation with fitc and successful flash with fpt is port 1 @ x2 2.0 and port 3 @ x2 2.0 both useless. Maybe it could be helpful a thread in the eGPU section with the port layout of eGPU users' laptop? I could handle the table. Just a note. 1ch LVDs support a display resolution of up to 1400 × 1050 @ 60 Hz refresh while a 2ch link can boost the maximum display resolution up to 2048 × 1536 (QXGA) @ 60 Hz. (wiki) That's how we could install a 1080p screen on a HP Probook 4530s with 2ch LVDS cable. On the other hand, 14" 1080p LVDs screen are rare. I quote what laptopscreen.com responded: Unfortunately we do not have any 14" 1080p 40-pin LCDs. We know that there were some in existence - but we have never had our hands on it. (We have several 30-pin eDP 14" LCDs @ 1080p - those are the newest stock). The real problem is that most of the 14" LVDS 768p/900p screens that exist aren't good (no IPS options either). The only notable screen (that I am aware of) in the 14" TN panel category is the Thinkpad X1 Carbon (gen 1) screen and its price is too high.

  16. In 2012 along with the notorious 2570p HP announced an IvyBridge Probook 6470b a 14" Probook as a successor to the 6460b. It was discontinued in 2013 when the Haswell Probook 640 G1 came in the market. Since I coundn't find any other place to share experiences on this laptop I decided to start a thread here. I recently decided to buy a 6470b (i5-3320m 4GB@1600MHz 250GB), to replace the 4530s that I gave to my sister. I was thinking to buy a newer haswell machine but I couldn't find something with a socketted CPU and an EC slot ~300€ and I wouldn't spend more. I saw the 2570p and what it offers, but for my needs the 12,5" screen is not enough (I do a lot of image and video editing). About the laptop. It starts from 350$ on eBay and you can even get a better offer if you are patient enough to wait for auctions. Main features: HP 6470b Maintenance and Service Guide, Manual, Drivers Schematics Discrete Graphics & UMA (these were the only available freely) P.S. Sorry for my English not my native language.
  17. Hello nando, I am having trouble I am having a problem with a Gigabyte GTX460 OC 768MB. It won't get detected. Although it worked on a desktop system, when I tried to connect it to my PSU the fans work at full. Is it the PSU or it is a gpu that won't allow x1 connection? Thanks

Your system HM55 support PCI-E 2.0 regarding the power requirements but PCI-E 1.0 regarding speeds as you can find in Intel's specifications here Your chipset is PCI-E 2.0 but it only handles 2.5GT/s. How is that possible? Anyway that's Intel Despite all these your system runs faster @ x1.1 than older chipsets and if you can boot using Intel HD along with an Nvidia Fermi/Keplar card you can use Opt. compression to get better gaming performance.
  19. First of all I welcome myself back to this thread. I have been serving my military obligations and that's why I was away all that time. There is evidence that only some earlier HP 4530s models can be upgraded with 900p/1080p screens (XU0015T and some others). So please note that latest models won't accept the upgrade. Also I am having a problem with a Gigabyte GTX460 OC 768MB. It won't get detected. Although it worked on a desktop system, when I tried to connect it to my PSU the fans work at full.   20. In my personal view you won't be needing more than 2gb or RAM... Also since you care about looks and consumption you could get a smaller case with ext psu such as the LC-13XX series or Hantol HCITX02 etc. You could use at least two 2.5'' drives without a problem. (1TB 2.5" drives are most of the times 5-10% more expensive but they also have better power consumption
  21. I have been looking for a NAS too lateley and I think that it is not worth it to buy a pre-built NAS device. Building your own DIY NAS is cheaper and more fun + it gives you the ability to make your system flexible. Use a zacate motherboard with soldered CPU, 1 or 2GB DDR3 RAM and up to 4 SATA 3 (6gbps) hdds (depends on motherboard and PSU) and small case. Total cost will be less than 150€. Specs: Asrock Socket BGA-413 E35LM1 (or equivalent) 60€ 1GB (or 2GB) DDR3 10€ PSU Corsair Builder 430W 80-plus Bronze (or equivalent) 45€ Total cost : 115€. Use the rest to grub a fancy case such as the CoolerMaster Elite 120 for ~50€ or use the old midi tower you have laying around Install FreeNAS on a USB flash drive following an on-line guide and get it going. You can even make it 802.11n capable if you add a USB wifi n dongle
