  1. I personally went about 90% into it. I stopped however after finding a few members bricking or having issues with Windows 8 and the UEFI. I am just holding out to see if SVL7 updates it with any progress. SVL: awesome I know quite a few members that will be happy if your able to manage the pain in the ass W8 UEFI bios. However, since Linux developers can workaround the UEFI I'm hoping Windows 8 can too. Apples to oranges but still. Kudos as always
  2. Yup. I can achieve 135core/275mem boosts via inspector. SVL7's BIOS can achieve higher core clocks (which is what you want since this is basically a underclocked GT650/660 IIRC).
  3. glad to hear you got it fixed. What version of windows are you running and how old is your laptop? Mine is 30 days old so I'm crossing my fingers for a reworked UEFI W8 new 2.1x BIOS one day.
  4. schranzmaster: tell your brother, grats. Yes, SLV7's bios seem to work great with I5s and I7s. However, there has been issues with the new UEFI/Windows 8 one to my knowledge. Dustin: Fparts.txt should be in the compressed archive. It was there for me. Are you sure you uncompressed it properly?
  5. I doubt it. This thread is the GT640. I'm sure SLV7 would make mention/notice if another series card was used.
  6. SVL7: I don't see instructions on page 1 or the read-me. I was following your post on page 8. I don't see any tools other than FPTW64, which I already have obviously. I downloaded the 1.07 link and read-me just had the InsydeFlash utility. Is that what am I missing, or is there something else for this error 28? thanks bud. FYI, $$ coming your way when I finally get this working. Your hard work and support are great. I love TI's community.
  7. ahhhh thank you David. I got the backup & dump and everything to work now. I'm using the 64bit program to try to install the 213mod but it gave me a error 28 (need to use DOS, like you said). However, I think I'll wait. Could you let me know if you get anything accomplished? I would appreciate it. Let me know if I can assist too! FYI if it helps: Got error 28 when trying fptw64 -f v213biosmod.bin -bios through an elevated CMD window. IT said " PDR and GBE region do not exist". Again, might be a windows vs dos thing. Thought i'd say regardless.
  8. SVL7: I'm having the same issues that DavidGreen is having on the bios request 4 page thread. I'm using 2.13 bios and its a series 6 chip with win8 UEFI. I got the same error code 104 2 device SPI error. I know I can edit the fparts.txt file and paste what you said. However do you know if the issue got resolved? Is there a resolution to this or is your 'not preferred' method of USB flash the only option with this? Thanks!
  9. I don't own an Alienware but recently purchased two laptops (Acer v3-571g with GT 640m and Lenovo Y500 with dual GT 650 sli). I would recommend searching what features/price point you want. I personally found Alienware to be a tad overpriced but still a solid machine. Both these new latops run all the latest games at high FPS and my temps with thiese quad core I7s are low. My cpus don't hit over 78*F and GPUs never over 72*F.
  10. My last two cards have been Nvidia. I just purchased an Acer 3-571g with an GT 640m and I7. I also own a desktop with A EVGA GTS 250. I had used AMD previous to those two selections. Overall over the last two years I've been very happy overall with the Nvidia chips. This GT 640m performs just as well as my GTS 250, which is a little shocking. I agree about overall driver support. I had small issues with AMD when I owned them. I've had zero issues with Nvidia the last 2 or 3 years.
  11. how would you rate the game overall? I've seen a few reviews and generally looks favorable. Is there enough content/time to warrant the $50? (I would hope 25+ hours of content). I have a GT 640m and I7. I hope it runs well too if I decide to purchase it.
  12. i would vote on the GT 460 mainly because of the bandwidth. If power/consumption is an issue go with the 650. Here is some benchmarks too Video Card Comparison - GPUReview.com
  13. for some reason the file is only saving 40kb and says its corrupt zip. do you have it hosted elsewhere? I want this sucker!
  14. put a post on other thread. Quick question, regarding newer units/bios. I know this might be a BIOS firmware windows 8 issue. If I plan to wipe and install W7 premium, would that solve the problem perhaps and be able to flash/use your other BIOS mod or another if you make one?
  15. just ordered a new model on Amazon and i'm guessing its the newer 2.x BIOS. I would love a mod as well. Do you need any assistance? Also do you take donations? I would love to send ya a few bucks for your time and effort. Thanks SVL7.
