  1. Okay, successfully flashed modified bios, nooby question, where are the wireless cards in the bios settings. I cannot seem to locate the list anywhere nor how to whitelist them. Thanks
  2. I despise the battery/voltage issues with these gaming laptops. I want something that is mobile, but I hate that I cannot get a decent frame rate on my y500 without having it plugged in. The tech industry is moving so quickly yet batteries have remained largely undeveloped in the same time frame, I wish this would be addressed in regards to all forms of technology.
  3. As someone who owned both a mac and currently a windows 8 computer I would say it depends on preference. If you game, give up the mac, its not a possibility. The specs of macs generally are enough to run the mac OS smoothly but lack the ability to do things like gaming even if you dual boot to windows. If you want a multimedia surfing/ or creative editing device and money is no matter. Go with the mac. If you like tweaking, hacking, or gaming windows is your best bet. I will say however there are some great windows 8 laptops out there like the new Dell XPS 15 (the crazy hires one) that wipe the floor with mac book pros. Its all dependent on money and needs.
  4. I think you would be better off building a laptop from the beginning so that it fits all of your needs. I would recommend going to xoticpcs.com and then assembling your computer to your specifications, that way you won't have to make hacky modifications. Fully built laptops from lenovo, dell, and samsung won't be built to order and won't really support customization so I recommend that you build your next one from the ground up. It really lets you choose the price and config. Just don't get caught up buying all the things you really don't need
  5. The reason I like my y500 is the overall good value. Things like a metal body, with great speakers and wonderful ventilation (really this baby never heats up for me) add to the fact that is can run sli graphics really well. I would recommend getting the sli version from amazon so you don't drop that much more for the second GPU
  6. Okay, so I can't seem to click links for the downloads in the OP, it keeps saying I don't have permission to do this. Is there anyway I can get someone to mirror or post links otherwise? Also can I update from bios 1.05 to the 2.02? EDIT: I now see that I need 5 posts to get downloads, and that I cannot flash modified bios without going to 2.02 Time to find 5 valuable contributions
  7. For clarity's sake, does this means that optimus tech and enabling the HD 4000 is impossible due to hardware limitations? My current wish for wanting the HD 4000 as a standard is that I have 650 sli which is wonderful for gaming, but horrid for using the laptop for regular use. It would be nice to enable the 4000 for those situations. Thanks for your help
