  1. I don't if this has been posted but this is very good news. http://techreport.com/news/29649/nvidia-361-75-drivers-support-thunderbolt-3-external-graphics
  2. I have lenovo Y50-70 and the problem is the keyboard area gets burning hot whenever I am doing something intensive. I already undervolted the CPU and cache ratio by -55mv and the onboard intel gpu by -50mv. I also installed the IdeaFan mod to make the fan ran at max RPM. I am thinking of using something similar to car exhaust heat shield wrap to put in between the keyboard area and the motherboard to reduce the keyboard temps. like this one: 5ft 60"L 2"w Car Bike Exhaust Manifold Header Piping Black Heat Shield Wrap | eBay Is there any potential issues by doing that?
  3. I have both Asus G751JM-BHI7T25 with Core i7 4710HQ, 2x4GB DDR3 1600, GTX 860m 2GB GDDR5 (NVIDIA Optimus Enabled), 1920x1080 60Hz IPS Touchscreen and Lenovo Y50-70 (59443538) with Core i7 4720HQ, 1x8GB DDR3 1600, GTX 960M 2GB GDDR5 (NVIDIA Optimus Enabled), 1920x1080 60Hz IPS panel. Both have the same latest driver graphics for Intel (15.36.23.64.4251) and Nvidia (353.49). I undervolted the Lenovo CPU by -65mv and it is able to maintain 3.4Ghz during gaming. Temps for the Lenovo is about ~73c for the cpu and mid 65c on the GPU under gaming. The first problem is regarding performance on my Lenovo Y50-70. I am playing Dirt Rally on G751JM with resolution of 1600x900 no AA vsync on and high preset and it is able to maintain a solid 60FPS without any issues. When I play Dirt Rally on my Lenovo it only maxes to about ~55fps, averages about 40FPS and drops to as low as 23FPS on the exact same setting. I set the Lenovo to High Performance power plan but it didn't make any difference. The second problem is regarding the Lenovo Y50-70 getting very hot (particularly on middle part of the keyboard). I am thinking of upgrading the cooling solution by replacing the thermal pads with copper shim (for the VRAM and VRM's) but I don't know what thickness I should get. I am also thinking of using small heatsink to cool the motherboard but I haven't seen any thermal images of the motherboard so I know where to put the little heatsink I have. I am also looking for double sided thermal tape that is not too strong that it is impossible to remove it but strong enough that it won't fall off. The fourth problem is regarding the screen on Lenovo Y50-70. Lenovo advertises it to have an IPS screen and according to AIDA64, it is using LP156WF4 SPL1 (AH-IPS). In comparison my Asus G751JM also uses an IPS LP173WF4-SPD1 (AH-IPS). The Lenovo has vastly inferior image quality when compared to my Asus G751JM. There is a very distinct yellow tint on white image that gets worse once I lower the brightness. The colors also look duller in comparison. I tried finding color calibration setting for my display but most of the stuff I found make the display washed out. Is it an inherit problem with lenovo or more particular due to the firmware or is it due to the panel itself? I am thinking of trying to disassemble both laptop and try to plug the G751 display on to the Lenovo to see if it would introduce yellow tint but I am not sure if the connector for the display is compatible with each other. both at 100% brightness. both at 50% brightness The fifth problem is I cannot go full screen on Dirt Rally in my Lenovo Y50-70 while I can do it on my G751JM (both are Optimus Enabled). I tried enabling and disabling the Nvidia GPU Performance Scale on the BIOS for the Lenovo but it still won't go full screen. I also noticed that if I enabled that setting the game would take forever to load (I am using the stock SSHD). The sixth problem is regarding my Asus G751 keyboard lag. For some reason the keyboard feels very unresponsive whenever I am playing any games that requires fast tapping of the key (like racing games). Last problem is I accidentally damaged one of the keys on my Asus G751JM. The key, hinge and rubber cap got damaged when my 1500RPM noctua fan took a dive in my keyboard (I am using the fan to coolmyself in the summer) an in the process damaged the letter N key. I tried looking for replacement keyboard but the cheapest ones costs $200+. I also think of putting a super glue and sticking the rubber piece back but I don't know if that is safe or will the glue even hold it together (the one I have is called Loctite super glue gel) I also found an individual key replacement kit but I don't know how that works and it costs $35 for just a single key. the damaged key
  4. Hi I am wondering if it is possible to mod the BIOS of my Asus G751JM to do these following BIOS LINK: HERE -Make the CPU multiplier for my Core i7 4710HQ get the max multiplier all cores. There has been discussion on my laptop in ROG forums about different bios version has different max multiplier for all cores HERE. I know Intel XTU can overclock the cpu and the max multiplier possible under it is X37 for single core and X35 for all cores. I am also planning to open the laptop and replace the thermal compound with GELID Solutions GC-Extreme and maybe also get a notebook cooler. Current temps without notebook cooler and undervolting on games hovers around 67-70c. -I know tweaktown mods the bios for Gigabyte desktop motherboard to allow max multiplier on all cores for locked cpu (I was using an Intel Xeon E3-1230 V3 with Gigabyte Z87X-SOC Force and the modded bios allowed me to run the max multiplier possible with that computer). Example like this ONE. I am wondering if the same can be done for my laptop computer. -Mod the BIOS to bypass / have a selection of either iGPU or dGPU in BIOS / disable intel graphics so NVIDIA optimus wont be used. I have alot of issues with NVIDIA Optimus and I would like to remove it if possible. This might be off topic but I might as well ask about it. The laptop that I have uses an LG LP173WF4-SPD1 which uses eDP. Other variant of my laptop like the ASUS G751JY uses the exact same display with the exact same connector and people were able to overclock the LCD easily to 100Hz without any issues. My main rig uses a BenQ XL2420Z with is a 1080p 144Hz monitor and going back to 60Hz is very distracting to me. I tried overclocking the laptop LCD through Intel Custom Resolution but even at just 65Hz it would say it exceeds the maximum bandwidth capacity. Other people with default high resolution (3200x1800) have the same issue when they try to create a custom resolution even with lower resolution than their panel HERE. I tried googling a pixel clock patcher for Intel Graphics but to my dismay the only available pixel patcher is for MAC HERE and HERE. Is there a similar program for windows to remove the pixel clock limitation for Intel Graphics?
  5. Sager np9773 hands down. Uses desktop CPU 4790k, screen is matte ips that is overclockable to 100hz and has good cooling. I have a desktop computer with core I7 5820k with GTX 970 and there is a noticeable difference in FPS (especially min.) between 3.3Ghz and 4+Ghz on a high refresh rate monitor (BenQ xl2420z 1080p 144hz). 6. I would like to say thanks for your awesome work. I had a DiY eGPU years ago (when I was using an old core 2 duo laptop + GTS 450 gpu and the thread was still at notebookreview) using the PE4L-EC2C. While it was great for a while, the intel Core 2 duo I have is aging and I only have PCIe 1.0 @ x1.0 I had migrated to desktop computers for a while due to performance \ price (I have Core i7 5820k, 16GB RAM, GTX 970 with custom loop and 144Hz 1080p monitor). I was recently looking at some laptops and the Asus G751JM caught my attention due to its price and performance. I needed a laptop when I am traveling and the GTX 860M doesn't look like a strong enough GPU to push consistent 100FPS at 1080p even on medium~high setting on games I will play (like GTA 5, Grid Autosport, F1 2015, Dota 2, etc...). It has a Core i7 4710HQ, 8GB RAM, GTX 860M (maxwell and according to google it is rougly the same performance as GTX 750 Ti) and more importantly a 1080p IPS display that is overclockable to 100Hz and a thunderbolt port. I immediately pulled the trigger to buy it now and it is still not shipped out for some reason (bought the laptop from here) . I have a few questions if you don't mind about eGPU. First of all I heard that there was a new version of thunderbolt, how can I tell which version of thunderbolt is on my laptop? I tried googling it but there is no conclusive answer as to what version is on Asus G751. According to some guy the Thunderbolt host chip in Asus G751 is BDW-TBT-LP (WR) LINK HERE I am also wondering what is the cheapest available thunderbolt adapter so I can plug in a desktop graphics card (something like a GTX 970)? If you can tell which parts to get (like what cable, board, graphics card, psu) that would be great. The enclosure that is available are outrageously expensive (it cost like $600 which is the same amount I paid for the Laptop). This might be off topic but there was a leaked driver that enabled G-Sync on some laptops (mainly laptops that uses eDP monitor interface and has a panel LG LGD046C and no NVIDIA Optimus according to this guy), What is your thoughts about it? Also is there a way to permanently disable the integrated intel graphics on an NVIDIA Optimus enabled laptop (like the Alienware M17x r3 that has a BIOS option to select either iGPU or dGPU) if there is no setting in the BIOS? I have the same eDP panel on my laptop but NVIDIA Optimus according to reports prevent the G-Sync hack from working. Last but not the least, with the arrival of HBM (High Bandwidth memory), do you think a thunderbolt port would provide enough bandwidth given the massive increase on bandwidth on HBM gpu's (NVIDIA is claiming 3x higher bandwidth with HBM on NVIDIA Pascal LINK HERE)?
  7. Except the 840 evo that periodically refresh. Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
  8. where did you buy your exp gdc? i am googling it but every seller seems to be quite questionable (payment is only accepted through bank transfer or western union). there seems to be one seller that seems ok (on aliexpress) but he is selling the old version (5.8) also, can you confirm does it come with a power supply (220w dell)?
  9. my current specs: Intel Core i7 2920xm Extreme Edition 2.5Ghz (4c/8t Sandy Bridge) Intel HM67 (1x4GB + 1x2GB)6GB DDR3 1600 AMD Radeon HD 6990m 2GB GDDR5 Killer n-1103 802.11n 1920x1080 60Hz about 2-3years ago, i purchased a PE4H v2.4 + EC2C(express card) to do an eGPU on my ancient laptop but I didn't manage to do it successfully (due to abysmal perf gain thanks to pcie 1.0 @1x) as of right now, the performance of my GPU (6990m) is enough for me to play most games at 1080p at high or max. The reason I want to do an eGPU is I want to get one of Korean 1440p monitors because I hate how glossy the screen of my laptop is. I also want to get a bigger working space on my screen and have better color accuracy. I would also want to be able to overclock the Korean 1440p to 120h+ for smoother motion. unfortunately, my laptop doesn't have an ad-board to handle the pixel clock of the display of the Korean 1440p so I need to get a desktop GPU. right now, I could get this combo: -AMD Radeon R9 290 -PE4L-PM060A (mPCIe and claims to be PCIe GEN 3.0) -Seasonic SS-FL2 460w 80PLus PLatinum Fanless ATX12v / EPS12v according to AIDA64, i could remove my wifi card and should have a free mPCIe 2.0 @1x on port 3 additional info: -my laptop is set at Muxed Fixed Scheme -I prefer to get the Radeon R9 290 instead of any nvidia gpu because of Mantle, mining, etc... -is the PE4L-PM060A backwards compatible with PCIe 2.0? -how much performance loss should I expect running the r9 290 on PCIe 2.0 @1x? -will the bandwidth of PCIe 2.0 @1x be enough for 2560x1440 for atleast 120hz? update 1: I found this product called EXP GDC v6.0 278. http://easy-taobao.com/item/37107780625# it looks like it is better than PE4L-PM060A as it looks to be better built (it has metal cover, usb slot, 'modular psu', etc...) would the EXP GDC a better product then PE4L-PM060A? is there any difference or draw back to it?
  10. As I said, it is more trouble than its worth. To fix that code12 you need to purchase the setup fix from Tech Inferno Fan on harmonics. Even if you purchase it, you need to pre load it every single time you boot up your pc. there is also no work around about turning the egpu on while system is off. By the time you realize the issues, you may have spent well over a brand new case Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
  11. Just get a new case Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
  12. I have tried other ram (gskill 1600 2x4gb). At first the ram is under the keyboard then on the back, still no difference Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
  13. The model I have is the m17x r3 flashed with unlocked a12 bios w/sata fix. The processor it has is 2630qm. I tried running the catalyst autodetect but it says not supported. When I fresh intalled the latest one from and, it refuse to install saying incompatible. I don't know if the 699m I have is Dell or clevo Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
  14. That's a shame, I'm wondering if earlier bios version doesn't have this issue Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
  15. I have a Samsung 30nm ram(YK0) 2x4gb and I tried to overclock it to bios but the only settings that seem to effect is the CL timming. The other(trcd, trp, tras) automatically get high number(15) even though I manually select value for it(10). The option for running the memory speed in the bios(1866, 2133) also does not work. The memory I am using uses a default voltage of 1.35 but under the bios, the lowest option is only (1.5). Is it a BIOS specific issue or does alienware bios really suck? The BIOS I am using is the unlocked a12 with SATA fix. I havent tried any other BIOS as I immediately updated it as soon as I got it and I do not know how to downgrade it safely. I would appreciate if someone could provide help or answers to the said issues Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
