Bad Teddy

Could someone who's managed to install Windows 7 x64 in UEFI mode on a GPT partition chime in and share what you did to get it to work? First I couldn't even get the installer to function from my USB stick. Even if I forced it to boot from the USB stick it would eventually just ignore it and boot from my HDD instead. Apparently there's supposed to be two entries when trying to install from a device if UEFI mode is enabled, yet I only had one entry from what I saw. Then I manually went into the EFI Shell from BIOS and finally got it to install onto my mSATA SSD. But now all it does is BSOD whenever I try to boot Windows. Furthermore, I can't even get it to let me back into the installer from the USB stick anymore as that just BSODs as well -.- Under OS Select I'm set to "Others" and "Enabled" for UEFI, which to my knowledge, is all that ought need to be done to get things functioning properly, but apparently there's more to it lol.

Just read your message Prema. Do you still need those files dumped or shall we simply flash the updated BIOS'?

As far as I can tell, no trace of the old install is left on my machine. I did a general registry cleaning with CCleaner as well, and nothing has helped. I actually read on another forum that some people were having problems with the latest version for some reason. Although now, I can't even install the previous version that was on the system. I figure some part of the registry must not have been properly updated, but there seems to be next to no information on Intel's XTU software so I have no idea what to look for in the registry. Edit: Got an older version to install. Version 3.2 I think. Reference clock is still unavailable. Gonna try uninstalling and seeing if I can use a newer version. Edit 2: Annnnnd nope. Can't install a newer version. Pretty convinced there's just something wrong with the v4.0+ installers. Unless it really is just some obscure registry issue. Edit 3: Wow. This has to be the stupidest fix of any installer problem I've ever come across, but apparently, the Windows Firewall service MUST be enabled and/or running to install 4.0+. Knowing that that was the problem is a wee bit infuriating, but anywho... So now, even on the newer version, my reference clock option is still grayed out. I noticed you mention that when installing the ME firmware it's supposed to auto-reboot and allow you proceed into step 2 automatically if I understood correctly, but like the other guy, I had to manually boot back into my USB drive.

So, proper ME version after flashing v2 is v8.1, build 1416, hotfix 40 right? If not, my ME update didn't work for some reason. I'm only asking because, like the guy who mentioned it on the website, my reference clock is grayed out. i7-3840QM here. Flashed step 1, restarted, executed step 2 as instructed. Also noticed you mention reinstalling an Intel GPU Driver of some sort? What specifically are you referring to? With the internal GPU being inaccessible on the Sager 9370 3D I'm not really sure what I need to go after here. Also, I'd love to try updating to the new Intel XTU version, but frankly, the damn thing won't install on my system. It just throws a fatal error.

Not sure what good idle temps are for your specific CPU, but I've got the i7-3840QM and I idle 34-42C. Pretty hard for me to get my computer to just flat out do nothing long enough to see what it would just sit at, but that's the range it generally sits around in. The range for my mins is actually 32-38C, so it might actually idle somewhere around there if it would just sit there and not do anything. It's overclocked as well, but it's a pretty mild overclock. It'll go 27-36C with the fans actually running.

Received my NP9370-3D a few days ago! I tell ya, going from the last PC I used to this one has been something. Last PC I had couldn't even run LoL at 30 frames, nor 25, nor even 20 with all that much stability even with everything on low, no v-sync, and shadows off. This one runs it at 120 with everything maximized without the fans even going full speed. I know LoL isn't that intensive, but just that pure difference is just flat incredible to me. To think that this one PC could probably do what 10 of the last one I used can't... boy howdy O.O

You've got a point there. LoL's community is horrible, but it's horrible in that everybody is a jackass or an idiot sort of way. DotA's community, while overall more mature, is far more intolerable of... pretty much everything. LoL has in assholes and idiots what DotA has in snobs and mean players. "Mean" as in, DotA players will go out of their way to demean you as a person for playing poorly. DotA's player base is definitely the more mature though. Older game, older player base (most of us are at least in our 20s, whereas I tend to find that LoL is full of teens). I suppose which is worse depends on how you look at it... I'd say LoL's is worse because I'm not effected by what people say, but I do get annoyed by people failing to pull their own weight (which I've found the average LoL player can't do). Overall though... DotA's player base is far less friendly, though I dare to say that's just because DotA players tend to play at a level that warrants a more serious environment, whereas LoL players on average aren't really good enough to seriously call anybody out on anything. Personally... I take the same approach in both games. I don't talk to my team unless absolutely necessary. With that said, I'm of the caliber that people don't have any reason to really say anything to me for the most part. Detrimental mistakes solely on my part are few and far between. Ideally you want to just find a close-knit group of folks to play with in either game though. In DotA, do it for the sake of avoiding being demoralized and mistreated for making mistakes. In LoL... do it because the average LoL player is well... generally bad, and it's impossible to carry games yourself (read: you actually need your team, no matter how bad they are).

I'm catching hell from all angles trying to get mine. Looks like it'll be here Friday though... I hope -.- I'm not gonna lie though, I'm a little perturbed at Sager. The issue wasn't entirely their fault, but they didn't offer much help in correcting the problem it seems. Took some legwork from my reseller and more money on my part, with no "here, we'll give you this" or "here, let's make deal on this" or anything. -.-

I picked up a Razer Mamba 2012 to go along with my new rig after a friend let me play around with his, and I've got to say, I'm enjoying it. I've pretty much avoided buying anything "special" for gaming as I've never saw much of a difference or a point in most peripherals (especially given their exorbitant prices), but I've got to say I'm glad to have made the leap. I still can't convince myself that a mechanical keyboard would do me any good, but I'll certainly be sticking to using this mouse Not to mention I'll likely never convince myself to spend $100 on a mouse again haha. Havn't been able to put it through its paces gaming yet though. This PC can't manage more than 15 FPS or so on any game I play. I'll update this post when I get some hands-on time with my laptop when it arrives though.

I've been playing DotA on WC3 since its infancy (back when Eul ran the show) and LoL since its closed beta days. I've got to say, mechanics-wise, DotA is the better game in my eyes. With that said, LoL is definitely the better game for casual pick up and go play, as the barrier to even being considered "decent" in DotA is practically a mountain. I've always commented that a decent DotA player would probably make a good LoL player, but a good LoL player probably wouldn't have much hope playing DotA. Despite LoL being effectively more or less a clone of DotA, the things you get away with in LoL just don't fly in DotA. Now I will admit, from the perspective of which game gets the "team" element better... it's probably LoL. Some view that as a good thing, some people don't. I personally don't. I'm not against team play to any degree, but what I AM against is being held back by my team. In LoL, you absolutely need your team. The term "carry" honestly ought to be stricken from the game because there is no such thing. A carry in LoL is nothing more than a glass cannon who needs to be babysat by at least once other team member, and often several of them. In DotA however, there is true carrying. One player with the skill who is able to get far enough ahead can potentially take down the majority of the enemy team without much, if any, outside aid. My role when I played semi-pro (I was a member of NiN if anyone remembers that group) in the original DotA was just that, which is probably why I disagree with LoL's overdone team element and prefer the DotA style of play where one player can honestly make a difference on his or her own. My worst loss in LoL was after going 31-4-19 (K-D-A). If I had such a stat line in DotA, the incompetence of my team wouldn't mean nearly so much at that point. Sadly, that's not the only loss of that caliber I have to my credit =/
