There are many ways you can go. You can purchase a R2 board and get the necessary processor and gpu combo for it. A few people on here have gone with 780m in SLI. What are your specs for the M18x R1 you have?

I haven't experienced any issues with my 18. I do however have some issues with older games and SLI stuttering. Burnout Paradise is a big offender for me. Have you tried updating to the newest drivers. I know one was released recently.

I would check that all the cables are properly seated. Could be something loose but otherwise like FireStorm said cables or circuit.

If your gonna do the pin mod I believe it only works on certain motherboards. I know with my R1 I couldn't do it.
