  1. Still would very much appreciate some input on my situation. QIWY4.BIN does flash. But it, for whatever reason, does not erase the settings that I had prior. The very same setting that is rendering my computer unbootable. Definitely no POST. All I have to work with is the Insyde BIOS recovery.
  2. Okay, so I've done a bit of experimentation. This is getting me .. Well, somewhere. Before, with other file names, it just endlessly searched on the USB stick. Now, the searching seems to stop. But then no further reading occurs. All power is cut to the USB stick, it's not even in it's idle state. The filename I have attempted is QIWY4.BIN. I'm going to let it sit here for a while and see what happens. Maybe it loaded the file into memory, and it's working from there instead. Edit: Success! .. Sort of! The computer automatically turns off after about a minute, implying that the flash was successful. However, my screen simply remains blank when I turn it back on. Not even the backlight turns on. The keyboard still lights up, as it did before. Not sure what to do here, perhaps my BIOS backup was also corrupted. Edit Edit: The amount of ram in the machine seems to have something to do with the flashing procedure, but I'm not sure. When only one stick of 4 GB ram is in there rather than two, the computer finds the file, flashes, and restarts (Presumably). But when both are in, it just endlessly searches again. Edit 3x combo: Perhaps the backup was not a full backup, as I've been hearing.
  3. Fn + B Certainly seems to be the key combo that gets me into the recovery mode that I want. As for other ports, I've tried all the USB 3.0 ports, and the (apparently recommended) USB 2.0 port.
  4. Still trying desperately to find the correct naming scheme for the 8.01 Bios file for use with the Insyde bios recovery method. I can confirm without a shadow of a doubt, that my Bios no longer POSTs. Lenovo is making this really difficult by not including the actual bios file anywhere, and refusing to give the correct file name through phone support. I've tried all the "QIWY3" and "QIWY" naming variants, but that doesn't really seem to be getting me anywhere, to be entirely honest. It is possible that the Y580s shipped with Windows 8 and the 8.01 bios use a different filename for this process?
  5. Of course. I've sent the file to you in a PM. But it'd be nice if you can post the instructions here. In case other people have the same problem as I do.
  6. This results in the laptop in question endlessly searching for the correct file. The laptop quickly reads the contents of the USB, and then cycles power to it moments later, only to repeat the process again. I know this because the light on the USB drive doesn't ever turn completely off unless power to it is lost. And it blinks when data is being written or read. The exact same thing has been happening when I've attempted other file names and extensions.
  7. What I meant by that was, I am able to start up my laptop using the Fn + B procedure. This causes the laptop to look for a specific file on the USB stick connected to the USB port to the right, closest to the power input socket. Once the correct file is found, it flashes this file to the BIOS. Anyway, I'll follow those instructions.
  8. Can't see what I'm doing because the screen is black. And my short-term memory is just horrible. Not to mention, my bios was not set to boot from USB first.
  9. That method does not seem to work for me. I've tried multiple times, to no avail. I'm unable to contact Lenovo support or visit a service shop. As such, I must get the USB bios restore method to work. Even just the unmodified 8.01 bios, I would be happy with.
  10. I've run into a bit of a bad situation. I've been using this mod for quite a while, but then I've gone ahead and changed a setting that I shouldn't have. I've semi-bricked my system. It turns on, and it seems to load up the operating system, but I can't see anything on the screen. It's just black. I've attempted resetting the bios to it's defaults using the 30s power button method, but that failed. I'm now currently trying to reflash the original 8.01 bios, but I've run into a bit of a roadblock. I can get the laptop into the bios reflash mode just fine, but I have no idea what to name the bios file on the usb thumb drive. I've looked around, but I can't seem to find any information on how to reflash the original 8.01 bios. Or even the modified one, while it's in this semi-bricked state. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Note: I have access to another computer to run programs, and transfer files.
  11. I believe you're looking for this: http://forum.techinferno.com/lenovo-ibm/2260-lenovo-y580-y480-unlocked-bios-versions.html Be warned though, if you purchased it recently, you might have some issues with flashing as I am. Going to have to wait a while.
  12. I'm now running on Windows 7 Ultimate, mainly because Windows 8 was making me rather angry. Retried the steps prior, and got the exact same results. Just a status update. Also, researching into the SPI flash device error brought me to this: http://driveragent.com/c/archive/aa650e5c/image/50-0-132/Intel-Intel-iAMT-Driver-version-7.0.0.1144 Down at page 132, it is mentioned. But not in greater detail, unfortunately.
  13. I solved that issue by editing the .bat, and inserting my working directory before it executes fptw64.exe
  14. Still having the same issue with this tool. Keeps throwing the "Error 104: The two SPI flash devices do not have compatible command sets" As for what else it prints, this is before it. --- Flash Devices Found --- EN25Q32B ID:0x1C3016 Size: 4096KB (32768Kb) W25Q16BV ID:0xEF4015 Size: 2048KB (16384Kb) Also, as an added note, I had to edit the batch files to point to the folder where I've put them, and the program for some reason. Even though it was working perfectly fine earlier (Aside from the error given). I'm stuck now, and I'm not sure what else to do.
