I've successfully upgraded my CLEVO W870CU notebook with the 7970M! This is closest I've been to answers. I have a CLEVO 7970M V1.2 and a CLEVO W870CU notebook, this combination definitely works for some but needs a modded VBIOS. It will boot and I can hear the Windows jingle at login but the screen is completely blank/black, like it isn't even powered on. I think I need a VBIOS that will remove the IGP check at boot, I think this is the same thing as Enduro but I am not sure. Am I close? Update: I can confirm that this modded vBIOS does work once blind flashed, summary here:

I think this is close to a solution to my problem. I have a CLEVO 7970M V1.2 and I installed it in my CLEVO W870CU. My computer boots with the 7970M installed and I can hear the Windows jingle at login but the screen remains black/blank all the time. I think the VBIOS is performing a IGP check at boot and causing the screen to remain blank. I think Enduro is the same as a IGP check and needs to be disabled but I don't know how. Update: I worked it out in the end, summary here:

So I installed the 7970M, the heatsink is correct and it even boots up because I can hear the Windows jingle in the background when it reaches the login screen but the monitor is completely blank/black! I liked that my Clevo W870CU had a 17" screen and a simple flat design. Not too big, not too flashy. At the time (2010) custom notebooks were new to me and I was blown away by the options and customisation you could have. Mine was custom built by Kobalt Computers (before they went bust), it was still cheaper than the big name brands.

I'm currently trying to get a 7970M to work in my W870CU. It does seem possible from reading around but I am not quite there yet.
