I would like to thank everyone for the enormous work you are doing here and all the information you are sharing. I have a M18x R2 with 680m sli since 7 years now and based on what I read I decided to go ahead and upgrade it by installing an 1070 I bought from here:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Nvidia-GeForce-GTX1070-8G-DDR5-MXM-3-0-N17E-G2-A1-Graphics-Card-for-Dell-HP/192694490959?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
I flashed the unlocked bios found here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/release-improved-m18x-r2-maxwell-legacy-bios.800447/
I then switched to iGFX in bios and made sure I am in legacy. I took off both 680m. When I installed the 1070 the first time, I was able to turn on the PC. I went to bios and switched to SG. After turning off the PC I am not able to turn it on anymore with the 1070 installed. As soon as I plug the power adapter I keep hearing some weird repeating ticking noises and nothing happens if I try to turn it on. It does not turn on or boot at all, but the ticking noise is there. If I take off the 1070 the PC boot normal. Same if I put 680m. Do you think the 1070 is defective? Or just some setting I did not configure in bios? I have Windows 7.
Thanks,
