  1. Resurrecting an old thread with some desktop porn. Enjoy!
  2. I tried activating on Steam, didn't work. The graphics is pretty good, I am running it maxxed out on my desktop and the open world part does seem cool when you're not being interrupted with quests. I'm still figuring things out in the game. And I agree its definitely not a some half-assed port. The way I play these open world games is basically I go for a quest, but on the way there I encounter some mobs (or in GTA, I take time to park the car, take a baseball bat and beat the shit of any cop I see) then I spend next 30 mins killing random stuff forgetting where I was supposed to be going.
  3. I don't know... I was never able to get Skyrim to run properly on 5870Ms. The game seemed to run fairly smoothly (I think it was some combination of medium/high settings on 1920x1200) but I couldn't figure out how to get rid of the artifacts I got with crossfire enabled (it worked fine on a single card but I had to lower the details). So, I eventually gave up trying.
  4. Look it up on eBay, based on what people are bidding I think it could go for more than $800ish. If I remember correctly, 7970M is about $500. Not sure for how much 2x 5870m sell, but maybe you could get $100 back there. I'm not even sure what would be a worthwhile upgrade except for the pricey M18x with 680M SLI.
  5. Yeah forgot about that -- good point about the drives. Even without RAID-0, one could go with just SSD + something like 1TB for storage drive (or just throw out the optical drive all together and reduce the weight). I don't mind the Thinkpad looks, but I think without the old school keyboard X-series has less and less going for it. The X220/X230 IPS screens are available on eBay in ~$100 range; it would be interesting to try it out.
  6. Seems like a great review, but I can't help to think it's also quite a bit biased: the reviews that don't mention any cons are totally not to be trusted imo. I also disagree with comparison to T430. T430 is a heaver 14" laptop, and 2570p can be directly compared to X230 instead: - 2570p looks more sleek I suppose - 2570p has much worse TN screen with average brightness of 166 nit (cd/m^2); conveniently left out from the review [ref: notebookcheck.com review]. This is a bit low compared to the average of 264 nit for IPS screen on X230. The viewing angles are listed as 150 degrees -- I have to say I laughed at this part since I know the laptop comes with a fairly poor TN screen. - 2570p has replaceable CPU, but it is unclear to me through how many CPU generations this will last (my point is by the time you'll need faster CPU there will be much faster CPUs from subsequent generations on the market) - 2570p runs 10 C colder than X230 (80C vs 90C) on full load. This is to me a fairly better and probably the biggest advantage. - as configured X230 with IPS screen comes about $690+tax through Lenovo Barnes&Noble website (this is around $800 or just slightly below if you add that + shipping). The way I see it, for $50 more (say X230 is $800 after taxes and shipping) you get a sexier looks and replaceable CPU, but a far worse TN instead of IPS screen (and you need to purchase 2570p from a fairly unknown third party merchant; otherwise the price will go up by ~$100). The cooling is a bit better in 2570p. Apart from that, 2570p and X230 are pretty much the same and the question becomes whether one is willing to trade the IPS screen (and $50) for improvements in other places.
  7. I bought this game through the somewhat less know shithole of an online store called UbiStore and I'm wondering if there's a way to start this game through Steam? Also, anyone else playing this? It seems its kind of an open-world game, but I played a little and got quite a bit annoying since every time I tried to explore outside of the "quest area" the quest would end interrupting to whatever you were doing and just ports you back to the place where you start the quest. The story seems cool, but the gameplay seems really disappointing (compared to Fallout games) in the first ~20 minutes I played this. (I have no clue how to see how long I played it in this shitty uplay.)
  8. Yeah seems like a damaged GPU, like Brian said. I sent you a PM, I hope it helps!
  9. I opened this page few minutes ago then forgot about it and now I switched to Chrome where I read the first sentence as: and I'm thinking WTF Brian!!! (noting the smiley at the end) and then as I continue reading I'm like.... OHHH HITMAN .... riiiiiight! :D
  10. I'm not sure what "scrolling down while drawing new frames" looks like (I'm guessing it doesn't go away when you enable v-sync), but I imagine these games worked fine previously? What you can do is try running them on each card separately first and then if those issues only occur with one, that one might be damaged. If your computer is still under warranty you should then ask them to replace that card. Otherwise, you could try reinstalling drivers -- I've had so many issues resolved for me by reinstalling AMD drivers, it's not even funny anymore.
  11. About $1,100 after $50 in rebates, and a $20 gift card that came with the CPU. And I still have to sell Borderlands 2 key that came with the graphic card. One liquid cooler kit and RAM is for a friend of mine though, so it ended up about $1K just for my computer. The discounts weren't that good. I think $100 for the SSD was the best deal. I also noticed price for the liquid cooling kit dropped by $10 from my price so I'll try calling Newegg and solicit a $10 gift card. Actually I was thinking of getting the computer regardless, and Black Friday was just there by chance. Either way, I think it's possible to get about similar discounts throughout the year if you look around a bit.

  13. Nice looking game! I played the original Hitman and love it. I might pick this one up on one of the future sales. Just don't know when I'll find time to play it.
  14. Yeah he's gonna totally use this advice.... 1.5 year after he posted the question.
  15. The Humble THQ Bundle (pay what you want and help charity) Great deal on this set of games. You can set your own price except for the Saints Row: The third, for which there is a $5.69 min atm. Really not big of a deal imo. EDIT 12/11: As pointed out by @silverkid, Metro2033 is free atm if you Like them on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MetroVideoGame/app_395840630491782
  16. Well the fake colors look better in any case. But yeah, the game feels like beta. I don't think they should have released it now. First impressions matter a lot.
  17. The game runs pretty good on my desktop even though I haven't had time to go to some really populated area. WIth everything maxxed I am getting about 40-60FPS in some smaller sized team fights (30ish people or so). Already missing RGB LED, btw, even though this monitor (U2412M) is pretty good too, it's just that the colors in game aren't as vibrant.
  18. Then you might as well just buy previous-gen or previous-previous-gen Intel. Same performance.
  19. I just played today a little on M17x. The game looks like lots of fun, even though the graphics looks... well abysmal. Like the game was made 10 years ago. Still, it doesn't run very well -- it lags a lot on for me, regardless of the settings on visual details. It doesn't look like the game is optimized, like... at all. lol Hopefully it eventually gets patched or something.
  20. I never had these but just ordered H60 for my new desktop. I've read reports of people having the coolant liquid leaking. I thought the liquid inside is completely sealed? I'll let you know how mine works out. If I won't like it I'll return it within 30 days back to newegg.
  21. Nice. Well, maybe something nice comes out these days near the Black Friday.
  22. Where did you find GTX 460 for $50 ?? One of the best deals around I found today was GTX 560 TI TwinFrozr III 448 cores for $119 after $100 rebate. I am soooo tempted to grab one to upgrade my old desktop.
  23. In case someone wants to jump on the Apple bandwagon and get the 17" MBP the refurbished one is on sale now on Woot.com: Apple 17" MacBook Pro
  24. I connect to my modem through 192.168.0.1, and to the router through 192.168.1.1. This is my LAN config on the router: here I set it to use 192.168.1.1 and DHCP to start at 192.168.1.2. I set the modem manually 192.168.0.1 in the LAN setup in its own software: I have the cable model connected to my wall (its just cable TV connection), then the router's ethernet port is connected to the yellow port on the router (the one you use to connect it to the internet when its working as a router, rather than just a switch). I have disabled NAT and DHCP on my modem, so the router directly gets the external IP address:
