  1. We have tons of it in my research lab and it's pretty cheap (cheaper than water ), but you'd need to spend some time to make a nice cooling system with it I guess.
  2. I have flextronics AC adapter but I don't hear any noise. In fact, all the noise I hear from this laptop is from the cooling vents.
  3. Yeah $200 or so would be acceptable. (I know I am cheap. )
  4. From Eric G blog: Btw anyone thoughts on "TrueLife" glossy display?
  5. No mention of the weight. Yet.
  6. That's what they all said before they... touched it.
  7. If you haven't seen/touched it... you'll see why so many folks like it. Even tho I feel it has very little use for me (and for most other people) - it has such an amazing hardware. Steve Jobs know how to sell fancy stuff to the masses - IPS screen with superb responsiveness and an SSD-style flash memory. A friend of mine has Amazon Kindle so really even as an eBook reader I'd take iPad over Kindle any day. Kindle feels like a piece of crap from 2 decades ago, in comparison. It feels technologically so far behind it.
  8. Thanks Michael. I'll def wait then. The main thing, as Joker/Brian suggested in the other thread is the portability of m14x. M17x is amazing but its hard for me to lug it around. Apart from that (and the touchpad), I absolutely love every other single bit of it - so I don't want to sell it.
  9. No... please tell someone did NOT just go through all the effort of photoshopping those pics for April 1st. EDIT: If it's really real - yes. Please.
  10. It took me a while to find T-rex dino! Btw "Challange accepted" S. Jobs = epic!
  11. I don't have one but I played with one at our university bookstore. Screen is amazing and the touch response is equally phenomenal. It seemed nice for reading stuff like an ebook reader and you can watch videos. I am not sure what I would use it for if I owned it. (I own a Thinkpad tablet along with my M17x) Let us know how you like it.
  12. Hah yeah I'll give it a shot but... you think that's possible after a full year? Any chance of putting that money as some kind of a "Dell credit" that I could use later? (lol....) Or maybe I could just delay calling (I can honestly tell you I wouldn't touch XPS with a 10-foot pole) until m14x gets out. I mean I do have this warranty for another full year.
  13. Presumably because "the human eye cannot make a difference between WLED and RGB LED" ... I suppose it cannot make a difference between these and IPS either. Oh wait... I guess there is a chance that these still might be decent screens but.... meh. If it can be powerful performance wise, I could just grab an external IPS screen I guess.
  14. I guess then everyone here and everyone who made a feedback must be an Alien or medically blind. If one cannot see the difference between these two displays, one should definitely go see an eye doctor. Damaged eyes from what? Looking at a good screen? ROFL
  15. Hey, So, I believe my M11x (which my friend sent me back from Europe) finally died. Or I think. It's been self-destructing itself for the last 6-7 months or so. Since this will be a fourth repair I believe I am entitled for a new laptop and I'd like to stay away from M11x. (even R2) I paid $990 for the M11x (SU4100, 4GB RAM, 250GB HD) and extended the warranty at some point for another year (it was about $200). I'd like to call in, and ask for another new laptop as a replacement - the question is which one could I realistically haggle for? I'd like anything I can sell for most - I don't need another laptop. I am thinking along the lines of XPS 15 base spec + B+RG LED screen. I know it's shit to game on it on 1080p res as the base graphics (GT 525M) will be, at most, as capable at that res as was my M11x on native. But it's good for watching movies stuff and playing WoW at least. Any suggestions? Thanks
  16. Hey Brian, Nice guide. I'd just add a little note - when I did the above (it was few months ago when it was released), using Dell's flash software, it didn't want to work with my 8GB USB drive. It complained about it being > 4GB, so made a bootable DVD for flashing VBIOS. Probably a minor thing, but just FYI.
  17. Well sounds somewhat better than ViDock I guess - tho I'd definitely appreciate even a little bigger screen. But AW should pull out something really spectacular (I'm thinking along the lines of 8th wonder of the world) for me to even consider that machine again. I'd rather choke in cables but play on something like Thinkpad X220+ViDock if I wanted to go that route.
  18. Then what's the difference between that and do-it-yourself Vi Dock mods, since you'll be locked to the AC plug if you want to game? (Except the external monitor.)
  19. First off, Hi everyone at Tech Inferno. Second, it's disappointing to hear about the build quality issues. I'll be looking forward to read the review as well. Then again, I think you can deduce the target audience for yourself - kids who want to see the flashy alien lights and play with 3D glasses. I still can't believe they took out the RGB LED. Slightly offtopic so sorry about that but has anyone tried modding Dell Precision (the only Dell non-AW laptop that I like design-wise right now) with a gaming graphics? Some guy tried to do something like that with 5870m on Thinkpad W701 and reported on NBR/Lenovo forums that it didn't work out.
