A friend of mine has one. I will stop by tomorrow and grab it, and see how that works out. Short OT: I also have an overtightened screw at the fan. The screw pattern is still fine, its just so fixed I cant get it loose. Any ideas on that?

That didn't work either. I'll try some more different glues but I'm running out of options here.

Unfortunately, I couldnt find a tool that small I will continue looking though. Tried putting in a screw in now (The keyboard screws fit) but it doesnt help with the spinning since it hasnt got enough force to hold it in place. The only possibility would be to put some glue on the threads of the screw but then I wouldn't be able to pull it off again...

Hey, I've been trying for almost an hour to get my Heatsink off. The problem is the screw on the heatsink labeled "2" (It's one of the CPU screws). The round thing on the backplate that's supposed to hold the screw has rippled corners to prevent itself from spinning with the screw. But on that one, the mechanism doesnt seem to grip and the screw just rotates with the holder-thing making the screw unable to wind out. My first thought was to push against it with my finger, but that didn't work. I've tried to put a small piece of tape on the backside to "secure" the screw holder thing to the backplate, but the grip area is too small for it to work. I also tried tweezers but none of them is small enough to reach inbetween the little between the Metal plate on the Top of the CPU and the Motherboard. Where should I put the line on the GPU? On the CPU it's clear because its long shaped but the GPU is a square. Sorry for being so "nit-picky" here but I really want to know as I really don't want to have to do this a third time.

So I will try again. One more question. The application of the Thermal Paste. I've always applied thermal paste to my desktop computers by putting a strip on one end of the CPU and spread it by using an old credit card. The guy on the video puts drops on and presses the heatsink on. Does that make a difference? I've always felt more comfortable distributing it prior to putting the heatsink on. Also because the arctic silver tube is very small and it's hard to do big drops like in the video.

Okay, so I did some monitoring while playing Saints Row: The Third for 30 minutes. I was hanging around 86° GPU and 75-76° CPU-wise. It seems the GPU is not delivering much heat as the hot air flow gets very hot when the CPU is stressed, but is only a bit warm when only GPU is stressed.

Hey, I've got a problem regarding my M14xR1 with GT555M 3GB & Core i7 2670QM running the unlocked A08 with SATA Fix (not modified anything in BIOS so far). Since CPU was going into 80-85's while load and GPU was hitting 94° in Kombustor. Out of warranty, I did what's advised everywhere on the internet: I repasted (with Arctic Silver 5) and cleaned the fan dust. I followed the instructions in I used about as much thermal paste as he did.Now, the CPU is very rarely going over 75°. The GPU on the other hand, while not heating up nearly as fast, is still going up to 92° after running Kombustor for 30 minutes. I've seen people tell that they dont go over 70° with their GPU even after overclocking it (Mine is stock clocks). I monitor using RealTemp for the CPU and Afterburner for the GPU. Also, two other weird things: The air only seems to be flowing out of 75% of the vent opening, and its not very warm. I accidentally dropped the fan from my workspace, which is normal desk height. Could that have ruined it? It still seems to be spinning fine. I'm really stuck right now, I really consider opening it up again and repasting once more, maybe trying some IC Diamond. Or did I just do something wrong while reassembling? Yeah, that is a bit annoying but as long as you're not on a quest it doesn't really matter and you can do what you want. I was quite impressed by the games graphics and storytelling, and the effort they put into the PC version is amazing, its not just some half-assed console port. I can run it on Medium on my GT555m no problem and a friend of mine can even run it on low on his HD4000.

I'm using the newest 310 and I did notice a increase in performance, especially while playing Far Cry 3. Overall it's not much of a difference to 306.97 (I used Dell's official one, wonder if Dell somehow adapted it for the M14x?)

To be honest, at first I didnt think that Win8 would work for me either. I changed my mind because of 2 main reasons: First, it seems to run faster than Win7, has extremely low boot times and just generally runs nicer. Second, At first I didnt want to have the new Modern UI but then it went from being an annoyance to an oversized start menu and now I feel comfortable using it, as it is just a full-screen start-menu redesign for me now. 99% of the real action still happens on the desktop. (Where Aero is gone, kind of a bummer but I can live without it). Also, the new Windows 8 Bluescreen is really pretty compared to 7's one
