  1. I've already got an ATX PSU that I'm happy with and don't plan on switching anytime soon. I just stumbled on it while browsing and thought it was an interesting solution --- especially if you want to use a high-end card and be mobile at the same time. Never heard of Meanwell though....I'll have to take a look at their stuff.
  2. Here's an interesting solution for powering an egpu with a power brick to increase portability: 330 Watt Power Supply (For X51 and M18X systems): Amazon.com : Dell Alienware M18x 330W AC Adapter XM3C3 ADP-330AB B DA330PM111 : Laptop & Netbook Computer Chargers & Adapters : Computers & Accessories DC Andromeda Jack Genuine Dell 2YG07 Alienware X51 Andromeda DC Jack Cable Assembly | eBay Andromeda Power Board Dell D0HY5 Alienware X51 Andromeda Power Board Assembly | eBay Now from what I can tell the power brick provides the 330W via 19.5v @ 16.9A and is converted on that power board to the 12V, 5V, and 3.3V lines. Not sure how many amps are carried on that 12V rail but it potentially can provide more juice than the Xbox 360 PSU (203W) and the most powerful picoPSU (196W). Kind of an expensive solution but I thought I'd go ahead and throw it out there. Thoughts?
  3. Just wanted to post my results with my eGPU setup and X230. Specs of my system are in my signature. 19,496 3DMark 06 score with an external display: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti video card benchmark result - Intel Core i5-3360M Processor,LENOVO 2306CTO score: 19496 3DMarks Now just need to get an enclosure for my system, any recommendations? I've been thinking about getting a cheap miniITX case to put it all in, to possibly boot the system by pressing the case button. Looks like the headers on the SWEX adapter are just regular old headers used to hookup PC switches. Anyone know if this is possible?
  4. Funny that you guys are having issues with your X230s and the eGPU setup. Just got my eGPU this week (GTX 560 Ti) and was expecting issues like this since I am also running my C: drive off of an mSATA SSD, and I also saw people having issues with RAM configurations (I have 2x4 GB sticks in my Thinkpad) on the Lenovo forums: X230 expresscard adressing (eGPU) - Page 4 - Lenovo Community However, my system was completely plug and play! I had no Code 12 or TOLUD issues at all running stock NVidia drivers on 2.02.1.10 BIOS. No need to chainload either; I simply powered on the eGPU, hotplugged, Windows detected new graphics card, automatically installed GTX 560 Ti drivers, rebooted, and I was up and running! Was able to play Crysis 2 and Starcraft 2 with maxed out settings yesterday! Posted a 19,496 with 3DMark06: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti video card benchmark result - Intel Core i5-3360M Processor,LENOVO 2306CTO score: 19496 3DMarks Extremely happy with my setup! Now I just need to look into getting a good enclosure for it, any recommendations?
