  1. Haha I was too. Maybe with a proper egpu it could’ve worked. Would have made that cpu a lot better if an egpu broke the base clock ceiling
  2. Eventually gave up on this. It was an attempt to bypass the internal graphics and hopefully overclock the cpu more. Perhaps the external gpu was too old or not compatible. Don’t really know, but I never could get it to work.
  3. With non-k Skylake Overclocking becoming more popular, I decided to see what it’s limits were. Non-k mobile Overclocking stops at 102.7 MHz bclk with the integraed graphics still enabled. My goal was to bypass this with an eGPU and see what could be done. I currently have an old Radeon HD 4450 connected through my M.2 slot on my motherboard. Only issue is, nothing seems to recognize the card. I did check to see if the M.2 supports pci lanes and it does. Gpu is being powered by a 400w psu. The Gpu fan does turn on, leading me to think that it is getting some kind of pci connection. Any help in trying to get the gpu to show up in device manager or work is greatly appreciated.   4. You would just need to flash a modified vbios. You can try and find one someone else has made, or dump your own and edit it. For flashing use nvflash, and edit the vbios with something like maxwell bios tweaked. Most of these tools are specific to your gpu architecture so be mindful of that.
  5. Overclocking is possible. No hardware mods. Microcode is not known how to manipulate currently. Not anything recent. But regardless, the microcode doesn’t have anything to do with the clock speeds. That’s all controlled by intels management engine in the bios. On a locked cpu (non k) you can overclock by raising the bclk. This won’t get you much because the bclk is also tied to the pci bus and other things. I did it successfully on a Skylake cpu. Wrote a guide HERE.
  6. Not sure what laptop this is on, but if you have a programmer, you don’t need to mess with any of that. It will over write it no problem. You will have to make sure the jumper is on the right pins how ever. This is normally laptop specific.
  7. You might have luck on eBay perhaps. It’s probably cheaper to buy a spi programmer with a chip clip tho. This will also keep you from having to try and desolder/solder the bios chip.
  8. Yes, sometimes there are two. This is more common in desktops tho. If you are flashing/dumping with FPTW use the -BIOS to dump just the bios region. (fptw -d whatever.bin -BIOS). That is if you can get to windows. Otherwise, you’ll need a spi programmer with a SOIC8 chip clip to reflash the chip. You should be able to download the bios from the manufacture’s website. Just make sure you know what regions go where.
  9. Not sure what all you are going after, but if you can dump the whole image, you can edit the settings with AMIBCP. Don’t know how to make settings display in the bios, but you can definitely change the settings to your liking. Guide that will help HERE.
  10. Yes, it is possible. I’m sure you’ve already fixed this but, a spi programmer with a SIOC8 chip clip will allow you to reflash the actual bios chip on the motherboard. Chip is black square with 4 pins two sides. Should have a colored dot (probably red) on it and a small dimple in one corner.
  11. You’ll have to flash a modified Vbios to achieve high overclocks. Nvidia locks them at +135Mhz if I’m not mistaking. I kind of doubt you would have issues with power, but that could very well be possible. With the graphics overclocked and the cpu at full load, you may experience power throttling. If that’s the case you might try and find a power supply from another laptop possibly. You’d just have to make sure it fits power and size wise.

    Unlock TDP/TDC

    It may be an issue with the ac adapter. Might not be able to supply enough power. I think I have that issue with my cpu pulling too much. Check out my guide HERE cause I know those settings are in the bios. How high you can go is reliant on that ac adapter tho.

    GE62/72 Custiom BIOS

    Not really sure why it is doing that. If you have power adapter plugged in, the battery shouldn’t be discharging at all. I wrote a guide HERE for bios modding. I don’t recall anything that specific in the bios settings, but there might be. Look through some of my screen shots possibly. Let me know if you need anything and I’ll look into it.

  17. If the only thing it does is turn on keyboard backlights (no fans, no screen) it may be just a software issue. Possibly just a bricked system. Take the bottom off and look for anything that might look burnt. Any black spots on capacitors, connectors, etc. if nothing appears wrong, I would assume it might be a corrupted bios.
  18. The notebook/desktop itself is no more secure than any other brand. The operating system is vulnerable. Both Linux and windows. Necessary precautions should be taken if you are worried about security. Use firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and intrusion prevention systems if you are worried about security. Linux is not any more secure than windows. Vulnerabilities for both come out every 3-4 hours. Simple ways to avoid stolen information. Don’t use short/easy passwords either. That’s a big issue.
  19. Desoldering the bios chip is not necessary. MSI doesn’t do that. That’s too much time and effort. Get a spi programmer with a SOIC8 chip clip and you can reflash your bios. Think I paid like $9 USD for the programmer and clip. Cheap fix. Open the laptop find the bios chip (should have red dot on it and a simple in one corner), and reflash. You can flash a bios from MSI’s website. PM me if you need any help.
  20. What exactly are you trying to do? I wrote a guide HERE to edit bios and flash a modified bios, but don’t know how to make settings show in the bios. That would have to be fixed with a hex editor to force it to display. Not sure where any of that is.
  21. Most all modern laptops have everything routed through the integrated graphics. Hdmi port, minion display port, graphics cards, etc. A laptop with a graphics card is running that card (Nvidia or amd) as a “co-processor” it’s not actually run the same as a desktop. No outputs directly connect to the graphics card. Disappointing for sure. I wrote a guide for bios unlocking, changes, or whatever you want to do. Check it out HERE, might allow you to do what you want.
  22. I have a GE72, overclocked the screen to 96Hz. Big step up from the stock 60Hz.
  23. I don't know how to unlock chipset tab, but "unlocking" things such as cpu, ram, etc is very possible. Changes won't reflect in the bios, but you would be able to see them in overclocking utilities. Kind of depends on exactly what you are going for. Possibly take a look HERE, might help a little. I know it was done on an asus notebook HERE also.
  24. Don't know if you got this figured out or not. Since it is aptio V, its no trouble to modify for overclocking. If you have a locked cpu, then you will have to overclock by raising the base clock. This can cause other issues if it is raised too high (depending on the cpu architecture). Wrote a guide for doing it on an MSI notebook HERE. You should be able to get a better idea of what is entailed by looking over that. Plenty of screenshots to look at also.
