If you need to haul it somewhere on a daily basis, I'd say take a 15" screen. However, with a 17", you do have more space for gimmicks.

It's sad how you really need to dig in the settings to disable most (see, even not all) info-collecting crap.

$10K well deserved, now let's hope it won't be the same in the next big Windows upgrade.
