  1. Can somebody check if the "ATA (BIOS HDD) Password" (or equivalent) option becomes available in the unlocked BIOS version? This is to allow for self-encryption of certain SSDs. Thanks
  2. @noteMASTER12 Thanks for raising this. Fortunately my PSU is 240W. I ran 3DMark and logged the temperature via GPU-z. My results were in line with similar non-overclocked setups. I could not observe any sign of throttling: In the Graphics tests the clock was maxed to the stock limit, but I did not see it dropping until the test finished. Also, the maximum temperature that was observed was 64 C , which is quite low. Idle temp in Windows : 50 C... Later on, I found via "nvidia-smi.exe -q" that the "GPU Slowdown Temp" for my card was 91 C. I do not see how my card can reach 91 C (without any OC), while my max temp in the benchmark is 64 C. I think this is quite a big difference to start worrying about throttling. I have not tested the card yet in a game though. As it stands I will stick to the stock levels and stock vBios which do not appear to cause any hassle. I do not really seek for extra performance gain via OC by taking the risk of frying the card. Btw, I saved my vbios via the GPU-z backup button. Is this sufficient for backup purposes?
  3. Hi noteMaster, The card arrived and I installed it pretty easily. Everything was as expected and just by following the standard preparations (new nvidia x-bracket, mod in the heatsink, uefi bios setup, switch to dGPU only, mod in the nvdmi.inf) I did not experience any negative surprises. Apparently, the unlocked A15 bios was not needed in this instance. I am still with the stock. Let me continue the discussion about the vbios of 980m in the more appropriate thread: https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/3519-bios-vbios-modification-request-thread-svl7/&do=findComment&comment=169226
  4. Good day to everyone. @Klem, would it be possible to look at my question above and to my 2nd question in the topic below? I would really appreciate that. https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/3519-bios-vbios-modification-request-thread-svl7/&do=findComment&comment=169226 many thanks in advance
  5. Hello, I am going to intall a GTX 980M on my M17x R4 soon. I have read several threads talking about experiencing throttling with this setup... Is it something that should worry me in advance? Does it only relate to Overclocked bioses and is the popular modded bios by svl7 an overclocked one? What I am only after is a hassle-free operation of my "new" card. I do not seek a further performance increase on top of the stock capabilities of GTX 980M. thanks
  6. Hello, I have a M17x R4 with A13 stock bios installed. I have updated the cpu microcode and the intel mei version manually, outside any bios update (e.g. A14 or A15). I am going to install an Nvidia GTX 980M soon. Is the unlocked A15 bios required to run this GPU or not? From what I read, I undestand that as long as I have the internal Intel graphics card disabled (via Fn+F7 switch) , I will not need to use any unlocked bios and the GPU is going to work fine. Thanks for letting me know.
  7. Could you please indicate if "HDD Password" is a hidden option in the stock BIOS of M17x R4 and if the 'unlocked' BIOS reveals it? Or does it not exist by default? I am currently running my M17x R4 on stock version A13... Because I would prefer to avoid just flasing an older 'unlocked' BIOS to check the existence of such option {with the (low) associated risk of bricking my laptop}, could someone who is currently using any unlocked BIOS version on M17x R4 check for such option and let me know? This should likely be present under the "Security" tab.
