  1. Hey folks, I hope that you can help me with some problems I encounter with my egpu. Notebook: Schenker MySN XMG521 (I think its a Quanta TWH540) i7 2670QM 8gb Corsair Vengeance DDR3 Memory Onboard Nvidia GT540M With Intel HD3000 iGPU Windows 8.1 (With intention no Win10, since i got a looot of problems with 10 and it wont run at all) eGPU: PE4H with PM3N mPCIE adaptor Zotac Nvidia GTX770 Amp! 500W ATX Power supply First off - I have a physical problem, it seems like my PE4H adaptor has some kind of loose contact, this is why I need to lay down my gpu on a flat, obviously non conductive area and the adaptor must be slightly bent to side, otherwise it wont work at all or crash with gpu intensive load. The Problem: I first had a GTX660, which worked fine for a long time. Suddenly I had problems (see above, loose contact), I first tried to switch to a different GPU, in this case the GTX770 Amp - but then I found out that the 660 was fine, but well, I already had a new one so of course I kept it I had switched to a new SSD, so I had to install everything again, and this is where the problems started. I tried for MONTHS to get it to work since I didnt know the settings in setup 1.30 anymore. I know that I have a TOLUD of 3,25, so I must expand it to at least 4GB. This is how I proceed in Setup 1.30: 1. Hotswap the PCI Port with the eGPU attached. I heard, that this will free up some space or do something, please forgive me - Its a few months since I read this, so I dont recall completely... 2. Set the TOLUD to 4GB/36 Bit 3. Disable the dGPU for compaction 4. Compact iGPU+eGPU 5. Disable dGPU to use Optimus 6. Chainload the OS. At this point, its a gamble. In most cases, the GPU gets detected but Windows says Error 43. Sometimes its Error 17, sometimes the GPU is shown as working correctly without issues. But still, it won't work - My screen is black. If I go to resultion and look for my monitor attached to the eGPU, I cant find it, its not listed, even after detecting monitors. The way to fix this, rebooting and run the points above over and over and over again - After about 3 to 20 tries (yes, really) it works. From this point on, it will work everytime with the settings above within this "time". If I try this tomorrow again, it probably won't work with these settings again, until 20 retries again... I tried almost every possible combination of TOLUD, compaction, hot-swapping, Gen1 speed and so on, this just won't work... Everything I do is trial and error until it works. Another strange thing - In the german computerbase forum, I got asked a lot, why I have the delay switch to position 2, so, 6.9s detection delay. Everyone said, it should work with no delay, but not in my case. When I turn on the eGPU before or at the same time the laptop boots, it won't boot at all. My notebook LED goes on for 3 seconds, and it goes off, then it goes on again and so on.... Its always stuck in that loop until I power off the eGPU. When I boot into Setup 1.30, press F5 to detect it, and then turn it on, it won't work either - The gpu fan goes to 100% and I need to disconnect the mini hdmi cable that it's being detected. By my experience, it won't work at all until I set it to position 2 again. So - In a nutshell. It sometimes works, and sometimes it just wont work - No matter what I do, or I need to do a loooot of work to get it to work. But if it works, it works flawlessly and gaming is no problem with very high quality settings. I know you will probably say that my PE4H is toast and I need to get a new one - which I will do, but for now I don't have money and the PE4C with PM3N adaptor is sold out at Bplus. Maybe someone has an idea or tips for me. Thanks in advance! -kentsfield
