    IMAGINE: NEW Clevo Models

i see your point, but as i said the 4800qm will already be sufficient. as most of the time the gpu is not upgradeable the gpu will sure limit with the next generation of games. even with a 2920xm you would be really fine, cpu power is at some point just not needed for example, my oced 7970m was able to render bf3 in ultra with all maxed out, bf4 on the other hand is only in high really playable, thats why every1 with a p1xxem is looking desperatly for a 780m/880m/970m/980m all my cpu power is unused. so my point is, it would be much nicer to have a limiting cpu, as its easy changeable to a more powerful cpu but the gpu is always the weak part. and tbh. as great as the 980m is, there are already games which this gpu will limit. with the option of 2k/4k displays its already way to weak. sadly we have to wait so long for the 20nm, as the laptop gpu s would really benefit
  5. non overclocked it wount be much longer to get good battery life you will have to use framelimiters and so on...but in the end the laptop is a desktop replacement, i dont think many people play high end games and overclocked on battery... for having a good battery life you will have to choose weaker laptops not the high end ones
  6. normally the gpu and cpu dont run on full power on battery. if you set it up manually (i did it once to try it) the laptop will shut itself down if you drain too much amperes from the battery. we live in 2014 there is no frying or damaging anything. the battery life gets a little worse if you overclock, but as long as you dont overvolt it will be manageable

mhm but those machines should be oc able without the help of a community, thats why i pay money for a laptop. eventhough its very plesant that prema does the work. the design with 2 gpu fans would surely be sufficent to cool a desktop gtx 970 with its ~160W, as for the cpu delidding, imho it doesn t make that much sense to delidd it put the paste on it put the spreader on it and put paste on the spreader. in the first place the heat spreader was thought to protect the cpu from mechanical forces....but that is only for people that dont know what their doing, i never had problem with cpu s without the spreader. nowadays tower coolers r designed for those spreaders. what i mean is, if we had a vapor chamber in the bottom of a tower cooler it would be easy to cool a cpu without the spreader. but those tower coolers r designed for the bigger surface of the spreader so if you leave the spreader away you will end up just having a few heatpipes having contact with the actual die. ...same problem with custom r9 290x coolers which were designed for the much bigger kepler die. the laptop sink shouldnt have that problem as it has a copper bottom plate itself, spreading the heat so it would be sure a mesurable gap if you could leave the spreader away. if i get such a machine i will sure check it out and i also hope some other guys will do so too. but again, im not quite sure if i wont keep my p170em for mobile gaming and get me a gaming tower for my home with dual graphics (r9 390x or GTX980ti )and 4k 28" monitor because i see more benefits with the desktop right now. maybe a 4710qm limits the gtx 980m...but i wonder when its actually limiting, if u take a modern game with highest possible resolution and details and msaa and so on , im pretty sure the gpu will still limit the max fps and otherwise the 4710qm is the slowest i7 out there, a 48xxqm will already be able to be oc-ed by 4mulitipliers, and i give u guarantee it wount limit the gpu.

that cooling is stunning i m asking myself if its possible to delid the cpu and just use it without a heatspreader...we will se i think it could be qite possible. that would be reallly awesome. i read that it will have 2 fan cooling, i d rather have the 3 fan cooling of the other clevor series, as i think it gets some great headroom for gpu oc.... we will see we will see^^ tbh...i would have chosen a desktop gpu and a laptop cpu because i never felt the need of a faster cpu with my 3920xm, and tbh again i only chose the 3920xm because i like overclocking and playing around. i just couldn t stand to have so few options in the xtu ah! new question, does some1 know if it will be possible to OC k-cpu s anyways?? because clevo normally doesn t let us OC the XM cpus. prema made that possible...
  9. my 7970m doesn t respond that much to oc thou
  10. imho, those mods r completely useless unless u always have a open bottom and a laptop cooling pad. otherwise u just put heat into the system which has never been wanted by the designer. if you close the bottom cover, the gpu fan and cpu fan will start sucking the warm air from the cooling pads which will result in higher temperatures than befor. so putting heatsinks on the gpu and cpu heatsink is contraproductive
  11. have you tried various oc programms like evga msi afterburner and so on? or is it really bios limited. with my 7970m evga was the best so much and evry program has its differences normally the ram shouldn t limit the gpu but it could be.... would be very inbteresting to know
  12. is that the max. oc? what thermal paste are you using? have you tried several benchmarks for the ram issue? for example, make some oc profiles, then go into a game and try the diffrent profiles whilst beeing in the same place and scenery
  13. good news for sure. but the gtx 980m is about 1000$ right now, so it s not that stupid to get a new notebook , especially the zm series offers a lot of improvement. but if the prices get lower, it could be an option. keep us updated prema, this post resotred my faith whic i already had lost
  14. afaik u cant oc your cpu, try prema bios and xtu , but u will only be able to "play" aorund with your cpu. what games u play most? normally the cpu doesn t limit that much overclocking the 680m can be very very good, u can have it oc ed 30% or more. just look around in the old threads. get yourself some knowledge, flash a custom rom and get oc enthusiast

why is the iris pro needed? is it for the 4k displays? otherwise i dont see any use for those devices as we all have a very powerful dgpu i m really looking forward for the zm series. will be exiting how they perform and what options we will get a zm with dual graphics would be a dream
  16. also it would make sense to put the most played games on the ssd. bf3 for instace loads a lot faster from ssd so your always first on server which gives u the possibility to pick the vehicles first otherwise its best to safe money and buy a new laptop in Q2 2015 if you want more power
  17. i had the version where it worked installed the whole time, i guess it is not a problem with xtu why? my cpu fan doesn t act anymore as it did when i got the notebook the cpu fan doesn t stop spinning anymore like it did befor, sometimes it s stuck on level2 then i fn+9 and the fan will stop for several minutes as its normal. sometime the fan spins up to level2 to stop immidiatly. but sometimes the fan works as its ment to be i monitor the temperatures so i can see if the fan should be spinning / still spinning / spinning higher / or not spinning at all im quite good with the clevo and i know it very well so pls dont think im a noob pls, i guess something in the ec is messed up

    Lenovo Flex2

    not even a post?
  19. hey, i wanted to ask if some1 already has the 980m oder 970m and tried overclocking , also how far are the bios works, maybe this could be a thread to share the experiances made i see the new clevo by schneker called p705 has m.2 ssd via pci e 2x oder even 4x, so i will definately have to wait for those barebones the downside of those is that they will have a soldered cpu package with iris which is imho bullshi* will there be any other new barebones without soldered cpu? also it comes with a 4710hq which makes it even worse because it doesnt have the 4 extra multiplicators... anyways post your eoverflocking expericances here, because it will be very important fpr the most of us with the decicion to get a 970/980 or not cheers
  20. yes actually i updated xtu today, but the problem already exists since month
  21. hey guys, i have the clevo p170em with prema bios, it already been a while but at some point intel XTU stopped showing CPU Frequency, i updated xtu but didnt change anything, and it came all of a sudden CPU Z shows the correct frequency thou, dunno what this is about any suggestions?

    Lenovo Flex2

Hi guys! I have bought te Lenovo Flex2 with Intel i54210u with 1ram stick of 4gb and the 500gb sshd I was woundering if some1 could help me get a custom bios I managed to undervolt the CPU with XTU which makes me quite happy, i am going to switch the SSHD against a 256gb Samsunbg 840evo, because i read that the Crucial mx100 causes problems and wount boot As i didnt find any threads here on the Flex2 i open this one and i really hope i can get some help from you awesome guys! Cheers!
  23. after the 780m/880m didnt work at all in the EM i wouldnt have too much hope the 980m will. prema always said it would work (780m) but it never really did. and i guess it will be the same with the 980m
  24. hey guys, has some1 a idea if the r9 m295x tonga gpu will fit in the p170em? maybe that will be easier than the gtx780m/880m
