You don't have to solder it but I would recommend doing so. It's really not that hard to do. It will keep the connections from coming undone. The heat shrink helps too. I picked up that little switch for $5 it was literally 4 screws and it was done. -

Instead of the paperclip I used a switch. It turns everything off or on.
