  1. My Y580 was with the factory bios version of V2.0x and I updated to Syl7's V2.07 GPU Overlocked and no whitelist at first time while it was released.

Then I saw a version of 5DCN87WW on another Chinese Forum and flashed it smoothly, but this version is not a unlocked nor whitelist removed version. So I wanted to swith back to the V2.07 mod version. It went well during the downgrade to V2.07.However the MC version is missing and there is only the EC version V2.07 after the flashing.

Then I just tried to only flash the MC to V8.01 using the 4.5M's file version,it works again. Now the MC is V8.01(Locked) and EC V2.07.

The last step is to flash the V8.01 to unlocked version following Syl7's procedure.Succeeded again.

So I just want to share with you the sequence about how I finish this unexpected job by accident.

    V2.07(Origin)--->V2.07(Mod)--->5DCN87WW(Beta version)--->V2.07(Mod)--->V8.01(Origin)+V2.07(Origin)--->V8.01(Mod)+V2.07(Origin)

so does this 8.01 bios have whitelist and secureboot?

  2. Hi svl7,

You posted this a while back, this is the 8.x beta driver that has the Secure Boot option. Windows 8.1 requires this and I'm already using a WLAN card that requires the modded bios that you made. I'm currently using the 2.07 modified bios that you made, and on the same thread, they were saying that it is safe to update to the 8.x? I'm not sure if that is true.

It would be great for the Y580 Windows 8.1 users could have this.

    Thanks!

  3. I don't know, it's damn stupid of Lenovo not to provide any bios updates, really. Seeing how many different bios versions there are for the Y580/480 Y500/400, Y510p/410p etc. without any of it being provided to the customers is a reason for me not to recommend any Lenovo laptops.

You can use the leaked v8.0 beta bios, secure boot should work there. (See attachment).

It's signed, else it won't flash or work, so nothing to worry about.

@svl7: would you be able to make a whitelist mod with this?

    Thanks!

  4. could the cable also be an issue? i read this: Y580 40 pin LVDS dual channel LCD Cable - Lenovo Community

so say for example, i have a dual channel monitor and cable, then switched to a lower end one with single channel. would that have caused this?

long story for what happened: sent my laptop back to lenovo for RMA, they replaced the screen (which they shouldn't have) from 1920x1080 to 1366x768. after it got back to me, it was already only producing 2 brightness levels. i opened the baby up (auto void warranty, since i don't want to send it back to those idiots), and checked that the cable is in tact properly. how do i know if the cable is dual channel or not? if so, how can i tell if the monitor is also dual channel?

  5. Just download it and read the file in there... it's all described.

And yes, you should be able to use the Nvidia card as primary device, but I'm not sure whether this will solve your brightness isssue, due to Optimus your system will always use parts of the HD4000 cause it's needed to bring the picture to the screen.

ah rats, guess i'll have to wait until Intel fixes it for Windows 8

I'll update my bios once a GHz edition for the video card pops up. I'm greatly looking forward to that =D

  6. is there any kind of special flashers that we need to use this, or is the flasher bundled in the zip file? (sorry, haven't downloaded nor tried yet due to the fact that i'm waiting for further updates)

and also another question, would you be able to disable the intel hd 4000 and just use the nvidia graphics after this custom bios? i'm having issues with windows 8 where i can't control the brightness since intel hd 4000 is the main controller, nvidia has working drivers so i think that'll fix my problem if it is possible.
