  1. Great, thank you for the suggestions! So just to clarify, mine is definitely version 2 right? I did buy it pretty early on, and I wouldn't want to modify version 1 if it doesn't work. Hopefully version 1 would say Ultrabay/1 on it
  2. Hello all, I use an AMD card with bios 2.07 and an unmodified gen2 adapter (I think, it has Ultrabay/2 written on it). I want to upgrade the wifi card, and need a whitelisted bios. Just came across this thread and think the solution may be here. I've flashed the modified 3.08 bios and ec, and the wifi card is now working. However, I'm getting 'unauthorised slave vga' error upon boot. I can't quite figure out if I have missed something obvious. Is what I'm trying to do possible? Will it be possible if I unsolder the resister, or is this only for NVIDIA gpus? Thanks!
  3. Yes is in legacy mode, and I think the rest of the settings are correct. Before 2.07, I did have the modded 2.07 bios. I wonder if it's possible that any corruption or previous settings remain
  4. Hi JK, all Thank you for the suggestions and your experiences. For me, the situation seems a little more complex. Occasionally the card will be detected, and will give me enough hope to continue. I know it will be detected if the gpu fans start spinning upon boot. The DDU software I use a lot, and I can occasionally get the card detected by doing a DDU driver clean, installing Nvidia drivers (essential), disabling 750m, and uninstalling 750m driver from device manager. Once I get the Amd drivers installed, I need to reboot with the monitor connected to the gpu, and then it fails to detect. I notice sometimes with gpu connected, I get error 10 on Microsoft driver for Intel hd audio device. Since I have eliminated so many factors (GPU, PSU, OS), I'm starting to even wonder about my monitor or hdmi cable. One other minor thing, I am booting from ngff ssd. Otherwise the laptop is standard. Seriously, it's not even about gaming anymore - just want to figure this out!! Thanks to anyone that can help
  5. Hi all, I've appeared at various times in this thread, never really having much luck with the adapter but holding out a lot of hope for my Y510p. So first I bought an Nvidia gpu. Then an R9 290, which I got working but it crashed under load - and after posting here, I determined that the card was likely faulty. I've bought an MSI Rx580 in an attempt to finally get up and running.. Have invested a huge amount of time into this! My issue is still the same, extremely intermittent. The first time I plugged in the 580, fans spun upon pressing power, it detected the card, installed drivers, and gamed for an hour. After restarting, the card was no longer detected. No fans spinning upon pressing power. Have tried all connections, multiple psus (600w), and the only luck I sometimes have is after uninstalling the gt750 drivers. If I install gt750 drivers then uninstall and reboot - sometimes the 580 is detected. But since that initial run, I haven't got it working again. I've tried a fresh OS without success. I wonder about what causes the fans to spin upon pressing power, and if the psu isn't providing power to it consistently. Perhaps the pc needs a delay to detect the card, but don't know enough about this. Bios 2.07. Any suggestions at all, would be much appreciated. Have I got a faulty adapter? Cheers
  6. Thanks Tesla, and nice video by the way You were right about the drivers, and turning off automatic updates has helped with the reboots. Unfortunately the crashing during gameplay issue still exists, and does actually occur in GPU-Z render test if I wait long enough I did stumble upon error code 12 in device manager, which blocked me for a while but went away. Sounds like it must be a fault Gpu - thanks for all the help and I'll report back in once I have tested with another
  7. Glad you like the PSU - I really wanted to make sure I could eliminate that as the cause! Thanks again for the suggestion - running the render test shows the same bus interface as your screenshot. I think it's a bit unusual that I could run that render test indefinitely without encountering any issues - even though GPU usage was at 100%. I feel like I might be over-complicating something, but my experience doesn't sound quite as stress-free as yours - and the instructions earlier in this thread, as simple as they are, don't always work. In fact, just getting the GPU to work each time I reboot the machine is causing me to rip my hair out. There is some sort of really delicate process that I haven't mastered, that involves reinstalling Nvidia drivers, uninstalling Nvidia's again, plugging monitor into HDMI port & reboot, check if GPU is detected, if by a miracle it is - then I will reboot with monitor plugged into GPU, usually without success. One sure thing, is that disabling the GT750m prevents the e-GPU from working. The card is firmly in the slot and not moving around. I really can't understand how I can simply reboot the machine, and the card is no longer detected! Any further suggestions would be incredible, I'm going to win this battle.
  8. Hi Tesla, Thank you for the suggestion. I started out with a 450w PSU, and upgraded to this 600w one here - I get exactly the same issue with both PSUs Cheers
  9. Hello all, Wondering if anyone has been in the same situation - I still haven't got my y510p adapter working correctly. Am running an Asus R9 290 (with 600w PSU), and get the dreaded 'radeon display driver has stopped responding error', that a lot of users online seem to complain about. I only get this error while gaming, and usually after 20-30 seconds of load. I have tried a fresh install of Windows 10, and tried adding the tdr delay - neither had any effect. Despite having this adapter some months now, I am really looking forward to using it - and wonder if anyone has any suggestions on how I could debug or resolve this issue? I don't think the GPU is faulty, but I'm still not sure if the issue is related to the adapter or not. Kind regards, Andrew
  10. Hi all, I had an issue caused by me being silly. Can't see how to delete this post. Keep up the great work!
  11. Well done Yellowzelo, and a moment of excitement! v1.05 installed successfully, but with the adapter it boots to a black screen with the following error (spelling mistake included) Second vga module is not suitable to this produce. Power off and remove it.
  12. Oh, that's a shame. I can get to to the qq screen where it asks to use the qq smartphone app to scan the QR code to login. Didn't manage to create the qq account though. Almost learned Chinese in the process. I created a post on a Chinese subreddit asking if anyone can create a login and help, but no luck yet.
  13. I've tried several of these online sms numbers to register for the it168.com website, but no luck. According to a friend, if someone has a qq.com login (similar to facebook I think), then it should be possible to login with that. If anyone has a friend in China or with a qq.com account, it would be amazing if you could download those four files and upload somewhere else! http://ideapad.it168.com/thread-5599091-1-1.html
  14. No ideas here, but I'm still not up and running as I would now need to look at selling my Nvidia card and buying AMD. Wondering if Gerald has any ideas - back in April he mentioned that both GPU vendors are supported - can you let us know which card you might have tested with that will help us narrow down a solution.
  15. I tried, but with Nvidia card - managed to get the tape to stick to the 2 terminals really well, but still 30 second reboots.
