  1. One Firefox window, one tab open. Before the recent update, CPU usage was normal. Now it seems to lock up an entire CPU thread when idling. It's not just my ancient install of Firefox 39 - It occurs on Chromium 61 as well. If there is any diagnostic data I could provide, please let me know. I will be more than happy to be of assistance.
  2. Everything is there other than power supply and video card itself. Use an ATX PSU with PCIe power.

  4. You know what? I don't know either! So come on, let's hop aboard the magic school bus of discovery! http://lmgtfy.com/?q=what+is+optimus
  5. If you have to ask, the answer is "You don't need it".
  6. >generic response to a post from almost 2 years ago Are you a bot or something?
  7. They managed to get an 8370 to 8.7 GHz but it doesn't mean that you should. Also, silicon lottery.
  8. Then enlighten us how you managed to figure out that your GPU is "throttling" and why 67 degrees bears such significance to you.
  9. Use the CPU 4-pin connector, not the ATX 4-pin.
  10. 2. The card only runs at PCIe 2.0 speeds when it has something to do. 3. You don't need to think about Optimus if the card already works as you want it to work. be it on internal or external monitor.
  11. A custom desktop PC may be easier to install and troubleshoot than an eGPU. Any kid who knows how to put square pegs in square holes can figure out the former, and there are many high-production-value resources widely available to hold your hand if you don't know how. I'm not recommending that you go and build a PC. I'm just stating the fact that "I'll build a eGPU since it's probably easier than building a PC" is bs. There are many guides and sample systems that you can choose to follow. Use your best judgement.
  12. >falls into the PCMR "more wants more" consumerist trap >sells current card >has no idea what to do after the fact Don't fix what isn't broken, especially if you don't know how the 'what' even works.
  13. I'm going to get tired of reposting this thread. I'm also probably going to get flak because perhaps I might even be misleading people, myself included, but as yet I can't find any alternate possibility other than EM interference that some other guy managed to resolve by physically moving his PSU away from the eGPU.
