  1. Good news! Looks like our favorite enclosure just announced the Thunderbolt3 edition. See here https://www.akitio.com/expansion/thunder3-pcie-ssd I noticed earlier that they the Thundbolt2 edition wasn't for sale on Amazon anymore via Prime. I have been watching the Akitio site for news of the 3 release and saw its out for pre-orders today! I don't see any pricing and it looks like you can't actually pre-order it just quite yet. Maybe you need to call a dealer for the order.
  2. I wrote the guys on eBay about that cable and they gave me a phone number I could call to order one. I don't want to share it publicly on the forum but if you message them and ask they will probably give you the same. Its a shame you can't just order online but the phone should be fine.
  3. I have been following eGPU progress off and on for years now since I always thought the idea was great. My current setup is a 2011 MBP so the Thunderbolt 1 was holding me back among other things. On Black Friday I saw a awesome deal on a new 2014 rMBP and finally decided to upgrade. I had hoped the major upgrade would allow me to run Fallout 4, Witcher 3, and Battlefront finally. But that does not look like a option even with the upgrade. The Akitio solution looks much better than original eGPU stuff I saw years ago and to see so many people finally have a stable system makes me really want to consider it again. I have been reading the board for the last week and I've seen the news about Thunderbolt 3 and how eGPUs should become pretty normal in 2016. I know my 2014 rMBP only has Thunderbolt2 but I still have time to return it and wait. I see a lot of speculation about Thunderbolt3, eGPUs, and the new 2016 MBP but nothing solid. My question is do you think its a good time to build a Akitio eGPU now? Considering possible TB3 and retail eGPUs this coming year. My absolute best end goal is to be able to run a Oculus Rift using a eGPU and my rMBP. Min spec is a GTX 970, but the TB2 has a performance loss.
