Forget about that post, got to fix it. The set up works perfectly, but there is a huge flaw. The static generated is ridiculous. I mean i wasn't even able to touch the laptop in peace. Foami made the trick, but an extra way of discharging all of that would be a perfect addition to the forum in general. W8, for it to work in win 10 you don't even need to modify bios? Hey man! It's a success! The eGPU is powered by the PSU, was a pain getting the plug and molex in this country, but anyways. Thanks! Now i found a really noobish issue apparently. Don't know if u could help me out...... Saw this thread about installation, but to be honest mkdevcon doesn't seem to work. I see you have to copy devcon.txt to c:/config , but no config folder. Should I create it? I mean, this is what happens due to that: As far as I know it should be: Yes No Yes And once eGPU is detected it changes to Yes / No / No, so that you can proceed. I even get a warning after going into menu based setup due to the devcon.txt I know it's not the correct thead to ask @Dschijn , but so far I don't know where else to look for a solution. (Should've starded with an easier project don't u think?) Again, tyvm.

Ok, found an old WinBook xp adapter at home that actually powers the akitio box without a problem! This means I should be cutting out the cable and fusing it with the molex soon enough, but before i do it. I'm a little confused. Should i go 1 molex to barrel or 2 molex to barrel? I mean my card is a freaking 960 and it's power hungry as hell. Although in the basic hardware tutorial, they say u only needed 75W for the box, and u shouldn't use dual power supplies. Anyway, should my eGPU get recognized even if it's 2 PSU's? Just curious xD But again, if u can, let me know if i should go 2 molex to the barrel or 1 should be fine. (Akitio thunder2, MSI 960, Thermaltake 500W)

Thanks bro! It works with the akitio's power adapter just find, I've tryed moving the plug that comes from the PSU without any luck, so I'm gonna try getting another cable. As I mentioned before, a friend of mine that actually works at IT will help me out. If I make it work, will let you know so that we can add more knowledge to the forum data base. Wish me luck!

There are too many 2 decide! WoW rise of the lich king was my fav, although i loved Flyff, Florencia, mapple story. Blade and soul is epic Loving mapple story 2 Tera is great Dying to try Black desert Guess it all depends on the mood xD Will try a few you all mentioned, never heard of quite a few.

I would go with HoN over DotA, and everything over LoL Items are 2 simple in LoL, for something like that, I prefer Smite, which is more skill based. Now, when comparing HoN and DotA, they are both awesome! The only diference is that HoN is a little more fast paced than DotA and gives you a little bit more liberty with the strategies, you need to use the environment wisely much more, detail is better, etc. Although, DotA got character customization, an active community that design new content all the time, and players ain't a bunch of haters like every single moba out there. I'd say DotA 2 is probably the best MOBA out there if you guys can't decide

Well, I'm a novice in the computer/tech world. Decided to initiate myself with an eGPU project (still in progress though), but apart from that, let's have some fun building and discussing. Hope i can learn from you all, and in a near future be able to help out the upcoming noobies. ATM got a mbp mid 2012 i7 2.9 Ghz 8gb, and let's be honest, it sucks for gaming, so hopefully I can get my GTX 960 to work soon. One last thing, any thread you'd recommend to get started in this awesome and interesting world?

Well, the psu starts, but that's about it. It could be that my molex is not working, will check it out with a friend and will contact you back with the trouble shooting I do for it to work.

Now that you mention it, that might be my prob, i got that kind of plug xD Can you send an image of your whole set up? I'm curious! Lucky u can get one, I don't seem to be able to get 1 with the 2 pins.

I'm using a thermaltake 500w psu I don't know if u need a more specific picture, I think this1 shall be usefull. Some people recomended a riser, but I'm trying to avoid it since i lack space as you can see in the picture. Let me know if u need more pics, won't be a prob to take as much as are needed. (8 pin conected to card).

So...... I still fail to realize why it won't even light up. I mean if i get 2 molex to 1 barrel, power output would be obviously more, but still. I don't even see the light of the GPU come up. Akitio's power supply get's the job done without a prob, and still, the laptop won't find a GPU when booting with DiY eGPU. I'm pretty much lost here. I know I ask a lot, but bare with me. I'm a noob xD

I don't know the paper clip trick. I still got lots, and lots to learn. This is actually the first time I attempt doing something with hardware ^^' Do u mean this1 to test the psu? Just in case, the psu works just fine

@Dschijn Here is the thing, shouldn't it at least start the fans with 1 Molex or at least light up something like the akitio original plug does? The thing is that I'm not sure if I got the right kind of barrel plug. (although was the only1 that would fit the female counter part). Will try getting the type of barrel @jacobsson recommended at the beginning of this post. Will take me a couple days though, since it's getting a little frustrating atm. Need a few days to relax. Thanks in adv for answering the light question.

I'm guessing this won't work right? Noob mistake I guess. So, how can i fix it?

Hey guys, I just realized my big fat mistake, and it is that I don't have a raiser with a moltex. Which basically leaves me with a Card that won't receive enough power from the mount. Was wondering if there is a way of using my psu to feed the 16 pin mount and the card and leave my card in the base as it is right now. I mean i modified the box to be able to stick the card on it. If u need more info, let me know, but please help me out.

Maybe you guys can help me out. I'm guessing you have to create a config folder in c: since there is none, but after that, i attempt doing the rest of the process. My OS is in spanish, so i erase PCI Bus line and when i press f5 in DiY eGPU boot, it wont find my gpu. Don't know what to do, kinda desperate at this point. Thanks in advance. I just want non soldered components on laptops so we can do some serious upgrade over time, instead of having to dispose them once our processor dies with the whole mother board due to excesive pricing.
