  1. The mini display port might be thunderbolt depending on your mobo revision, the easiest way to check this, before buying the Firmtek adapter, is to go to an Apple Store or similar and test it with a Thunderbolt monitor. I would not buy anything before that. Sent from my iPhone
  2. Ahh dammit. Have been knocked-out in fever the last couple of days and the inbox has been full all the time I see.
  3. @sbp Hi, Scott. A Couple of years ago I built my first eGPU setup using a PM3N on my Lenovo ThinkPad E530. I had the same unresponsive issue as you until I realized that I forgot to remove the protective tape from the gold fingers (insert face palm here), just saying =) I had a white-list issue with that machine (booting blackscreen I when eGPU was connected), forcing me to use Setup 1.x and hot-swap the Wlan for the PM3N. I think I even managed to get Setup 1.x to anti-whitelist my port too.
  4. @Jakob Hmm that sucks! I'd advice you to make a restore/ISO of your current installation, just so you can easily restore if it f-s up again. Let me come back with another suggestion Sent from my iPhone
  5. @Jakob I would install the 340.52 driver only for dGPU, then connect the eGPU and use the device manager method, pointing out the c:\nvidia\ ... \340.52. Sent from my iPhone
  6. @Tyrant Erik Very cool to see a commercial try for eGPU! That CPU though I can't recommend buying this for gaming, but maybe for editing and other tasks. Still cool to see that someone gets the concept! Sent from my iPhone
  7. @Jakob and @linh1987 Have you guys tested one gen older NVIDIA drivers (340.52) to see If the TDR Failures still occurs? I read that this helped others with desktop setups. Sent from my iPhone
  8. Sorry, I thought that was your older system. Sent from my iPhone
  9. @Petrroll Thanks! And the laptop model name? Sent from my iPhone
  10. OK, so that narrows it down a bit. What is your current system?
  11. Yeah it might be a cable issue, worst case is that your express card slot is somehow damaged or incompatible. You don't happen to have a PE4L to test with? And what system are you using?
  12. @Jakob I'm sorry it didn't help. It sounds like you're experiencing the same issues I did when using the DA-2. What is the rating on the 12V rail of your ATX psu? What GPUs are present in your system? (iGPU and or dGPU) Sent from my iPhone
  13. @Petrroll Try re-installing the NVIDIA drivers while holding the card all the way in, any difference? Sent from my iPhone
  14. @intelligence Yeah I'm still in the stage of trying to figure out what's causing my problems. Theoretically the DA-2 should be more than enough for the GTX970. Yes it's probably the most powerful fanless 12V brick you can get for a reasonable buck right now. I'd wait if I were you to see if how I solve this Sent from my iPhone
  15. @intelligence Love that picture You have to use a 12V PSU like ATX or the fanless Dell DA-2 brick. @Jakob Did you use DDU to clean out Your NVIDIA drivers before installing the new one? There is a software (https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/694754/tdr-manipulator-v1-1-02-23-2014-/) that let's you extend the or even turn off the TDR protection settings. Try it and tell me how it goes! Sent from my iPhone
  16. @Jakob I too have TDR FAILURES. Tested replacing my DA-2 with an ATX psu and the problem disappeared. I think the problem is a combination of the GTX900 architecture and NVIDIA drivers making the voltage unstable during idle and boost voltages. Sent from my iPhone
  17. @Petrroll Can you test holding the EC all the way in the slot and see if the GPU is responsive? I had a bad slot on a dell e6430 machine that needed this to work Sent from my iPhone
  18. @intelligence Do you mean power the Akitio + x16 PCIe slot with only the use of the thunderbolt cable? Sent from my iPhone
  19. Here is my boring answer: Have in mind that EXP GDC and PE4C might have different pinouts, that could cause damage to your system and/or GPU.
  20. @Slovedon I really feel for you buddy! So what's the plan now? Wish I could help you. Sent from my iPhone
  21. @Slovedon Damn, that sucks What was the sellers defense? If they have any rev x.2 you should demand one + draw a picture that clearly shows what you mean. Many Chinese - English communication failures has been solved by drawing/photoshopping images Sent from my iPhone
  22. @gabt Are you referring to external PSUs such as ATX or even DC adapters? I'd love to see a different slicker approach with inbuilt power that doesn't have the footprint of a desktop. I always strive for a portable solution.
  23. Cool, really thought I was the only Swede here. I'm exited to see that we are a handful Any of you guys happen to live in Gothenburg?
