Hi, I have a Macbook Pro Retina 13" (Late 2013) with: - Haswell i5 4258U - 8 GB DDR3-1600 - Iris 5100 iGPU - 256 GB SSD - Thunderbolt 2 I built an eGPU using the Akitio Thunder2 PCIe Box, I tested it with an EVGA GTX 750 Ti SC and it was working perfectly. The card was PCIe powered using a 120W PSU (12V, 10A). All I need is a graphics card powered only by PCI-Express slot. I was thinking about a GTX 950 LP (new models which draw 75W directly from PCIe). In your opinion which one is better? - ASUS GTX950-2G (will it fit in the Akitio?) - ASUS MINI-GTX950-2G - MSI GTX 950 OCV2 - EVGA GTX 950 SC Alternatives: - ASUS Strix GTX 750 Ti with 4GB GDDR5, which will allow games like COD BO3 to run high-res textures, but has less CUDA Cores than GTX 950; - Wait for Nvidia Pascal/AMD Polaris mid-range GPUs

Hey guys, today i received my Akitio Thunder2 PCIe Box. I tried it on my Retina Macbook Pro 13 Late 2013 and it worked with a GT 720 eGPU @Thunderbolt2. Windows 10 installed the latest GT 720 drivers and i was able to recognize the card in Device Manager, GPU-Z and Nvidia control Panel. But when i tried to launch a 3D app on the internal Retina display, the Iris iGPU was used instead of the GT 720. So i rolled back to 350.12 drivers for Windows 8. With these drivers i was able to launch 3D apps using the eGPU, but they all crashed immediately. My questions are: 1) Is there a way to use eGPU power to play games in Retina internal display in Windows 10? Or should I downgrade my OS to Windows 8.1 to do that? 2) I also Windows 7 capable of running eGPU for gaming in internal screen? (I would downgrade to Windows 7 if necessary because i don't like Windows 8.1 too much).

Hi. I want to build an eGPU for my Retina Macbook Pro 13" late 2013 (Haswell i5 4258u, 8 GB DDR3, Iris 5100, 256GB SSD, Thunderbolt 2). I was looking at these components: AKiTiO Thunder2 PCIe Box | PCI Express Expansion Box with Thunderbolt 2 Interface | AKiTiO EVGA - Products - EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti Superclocked - 02G-P4-3753-KR I would pick the GTX 750 Ti SC because: - it is small and it will fit in this case; - it does not require additional power from PSU, but it draws 60W max directly from PCI Express. My questions are: 1) They say "The PCIe (x16) slot accepts half-length, full-height, double-width cards and provides a maximum of 25W.", so basically it does not provide enough power for the 750 Ti. But see here: [Thunder2 PCIe Box] What's the maximum power output through the PCIe slot? | AKiTiO. So, if use a 120W PSU, can i run the GTX 750 Ti SC? 2) Do i need other components/software to run my eGPU on OSX El Capitan and Windows 10/Bootcamp? Thank you for your help.
