  1. I managed to install the eGPU driver again. I still have the large memory configuration, but the system keeps recognizing it as HD8600/8700M and keeps giving me the code 45 (not plugged in). The DIY consequently doesn't detect my eGPU.

    Can someone please help?

  2. Hi all and merry Christmas / happy holidays

    I bought myself an unknown laptop. It is called Vision Computer, but has no other name. CPU-Z says the mobo is PBL21, and apparently some Clevo laptops and IBuyPower laptops has this mobo.

    Anywho, it works, it's fast and was cheap. It has a 4 core 8 thread intel I7 2720QM, 16 gb RAM, Nvidia gt 540m, ssd and a screen. Note that it doesn't have an iGPU only dGPU.

    First I tried to just plug and play. Didn't succeed.

    Secondly I did a successful DSDT override, got the large memory, but nope.

    Then I tried some stuff with the DIY setup 1.30 although most of the time, it couldn't connect to the eGPU.

    I have successfully installed the drivers, when the eGPU was detected correctly. But it doesn't want to play ball.

    Some advice would be nice. :)

  4. Hey guys.

    Got a couple of questions:

    1. Are there any reason why I cannot set my dGPU to off in setup 1.30?

    2. I did a DSDT override, but on the setup 1.30 menu screen it says that I didn't do an override. Setup 1.30 is not programmed to detect that?

    Thanks

    An alternative to disabling testsigning in Win8/10 is to do a Win8: Perform a DSDT substitution within Setup 1.30 to overcome TOLUD issues. Win7 users who don't want to do the registry override can also do this DSDT substitution.

    Hi again guys.

    I wondered if this could help me overcome code 12 error?

    Though currently my diy setup 1.3 load up in a dos like way, NOT in the menu based way and I don't understand why. Could someone elaborate?

    So its basically identical, well i just removed that part but its some PEG port thing so it can't be that necessary :D. Good luck.

    Hey Doink

    I got another blue screen *sigh* yet again thank you for trying :)

    I dunno if you could see what type of machine this is? It might do something.

    Its a Lenovo Thinkpad E560. I just bought the motherboard. It has i7 6500u and a r7 m370 as dgpu and I have a r9 290 for egpu.

    Did a bios update which finally made the system recognize the r9 290 but gives me code 12 error.

    On my previous system, a asus ux32vd, it was more or less plug and play.

    So I don't understand why it is so difficult now.

    Hi, i just gave it a shoot and fixed the syntax error but i cannot tell you that i changed the variables correct so hope this section is unused and you don't get blue screen:

    (line:7422)
    If (\_SB.PCI0.LPC.EC.ASBF == One)
    {
    	OperationRegion (AMSA, SystemMemory, \_SB.PCI0.RP09.PEGP.BADR, 0x00010000)
    	Field (AMSA, AnyAcc, NoLock, Preserve)
    	{
    		Offset (0x53F0),
    		ASBT,   8
    	}
    	If (\_SB.PCI0.RP09.PEGP.BADR (0xFFFFFFFF) != AMSA)
    	{
    		If (ASBT != 0x83)
    		{
    			ASBT = 0x83
    		}
    	}
    }

    Whaaa... thank you so much! Well I haven't checked if it works yet but thanks for trying!
    If I get a blue screen then bummer, but thanks man :D

    Edit:

    Ok first I tried to do the probably noob thing and just copy/paste it. First on the line written (7422). Didn't work, just got more errors, and then deleted it. Then I tried to carefully write it over. Same thing.
    Tried copy/paste on the actual line where the error was reported, more errors. Tried to carefully write it over, again more errors.

    Fur fok saik man! Why does it have to be this hard to be a gamer :P

    Isn't there an program? Or something that does this type of task automatic? Or a site who provide this type of work for a fee?

    Not to undermine the great people of this forum, all praises to thee! Just a general wondering.

  8. Hi guys

    are any of you good at fixing errors when compiling the damn thing?

    I've got zero warnings, remarks or optimizations, just 4 freaking syntax errors. And all of the information I can find, are from hackintosh sites, where they just say "just use this "insert name here" mac program and you're good to go!"

    I'm so close on finishing this override! Can someone please help?

  9. When I used the DYI setup 1.30 on my old laptop, it worked fine with the menu based program.

    But now on my new laptop, it boots directly to a dos-like menu. When I press F10 to use the menu based, it just comes back to the dos-like program.

    Did I install it incorrectly? Many thanks

  10. So I went out and bought a ThinkPad E560 motherboard and all other necessary parts (ram, ssd, fan, cables, etc). The parts alone works great! It's an i7 (skylake) model with amd r7 m370.

    Now I already had an r9 290 and a GDC beast v.8 with a m.2 adapter and monitor. It was more or less plug n' play on my previous laptop. But now I'm having a really hard time making it work.

    I could really use some expert help here!

  11. Hey everyone!

    I've been fumbling on my own since I started using eGPU but now I could use a little help.

    I've managed to make a DSDT override and now got a large memory in device manager and that is all good I guess.

    But whenever I try to use setup 1.30 and do a chainload, it alway crashes to bluescreen with error 0xc00000e or something similiar.

    I have absolutely no idea what to do now! So any help will be much appreciated.

    my system is Asus UX32VD with win10

    i5 3317U

    10gb ram

    250ssd

    nvidia 620m

    PE4C v4.1

    R9 290 tri x

    750w psu

  12. I've been running this rig for some time now, and I am pretty happy for most part.

    But there are few things I could wish for.

    1. If the laptop has been off for some time, the dgpu gets activated again. I usually use the setup 1.30 for this to the best of my knowledge, but could sure use a helping hand for using it properly.

    2. Whenever I unplug a usb, the system goes black. Not a big problem since I just can let the system go to sleep and then unplug. Just an impractical problem which could be nice to solve.
    3. I have no idea how to make a dtds (or is it dsdt) override or if it is needed. If I do need it, a step by step for not so tech savy would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance and have a nice thursday :)

  13. Hey guys

    I'm a really curious type. Whenever I see something I like to try to tinkle with, I usually go for it.
    The minute I read that installing an external GPU is possible, I started saving up.
    Now I got all the parts:

    Laptop: UX32VD
    Windows 10 64 bit
    CPU - I5 3317U - 1.7 ghz base to 2.6 ghz turbo - ivy bridge

    10 gb 1600 mhz ddr3 ram

    32 gb issd

    256 gb ssd

    Nvidia 620m

    eGPU:
    Sapphire R9 290 tri-x OC

    PE4C V3.0

    EVGA 750W PSU

    External monitor

    I'm saving up for a PC as well, that's why the overkill PSU and GPU. If I could game on them while saving up for the rest, it would be a win-win :)

    I have installed the eGPU, and installed the driver for it and it works right up until my laptop crashes.
    I've read a decent amout of stuff, trying to figure out what caused this problem (R9 290's apparently can be quite a nuisance), did a fresh W10 install to rule that out and flashed a newer BIOS for the GPU, but nothing worked.
    Yesterday I found out, that it was a hardware problem. My CPU simply overheated and crashed.
    I feel like I've searched high and low for a solution, but realized that I'm probably way over my head with this one.

    Can anyone please lend me a hand and guide me step by step?

  14. Hey Kaiyoti and a late merry christmas.

    I own the ux32vd. I found out, that the ux32vd and the ux32ln has the same size and ports, so I'm thinking about upgrading my ux32vd to ux32ln by just buying and exchanging the motherboards.
    I'll then have a spare ux32vd motherboard, and thinking about making that into - I guess - a barebone laptop with a eGPU.

    Now the ux32vd and your ux31a has the same CPU, and I have searched high and low for some result with either a rig with ux32vd and a eGPU or a rig containing the CPU and eGPU and their potential issues (bottlenecks to be accurate), but with no result. Your post is the closest one I've found.

    I am thinking about making a rig with the nvidia gtx 960. I've even toyed with the idea of making a rig with two 960's, but results with that kind of rig and the CPU we're using is even scarce.

    But you haven't had a conclusion with your rig.

    Is it working? Have you upgraded as you mentioned?
