  1. Thanks for all the help Dschijn :)) Got this thing up and running yesterday, will be putting it into a chassis next weekend... Here are images of the setup right now (barebones): http://imgur.com/a/cPTVP My only question is re: the "memory" part of the GPU not being used. Is that an issue? Am I getting the most out of the card? I understand TB1 diminishes a lot of potential power for the card, I just want to make sure i didnt miss anything before I go all in with the chassis
  2. Got this up and running! Of course it all loose cables and chips right now but I will be putting it into the chassis hopefully next weekend. But it works! The only thing im confused about is that the "memory" part of the card is not being activated when I'm using a renderer like Octane. Any thoughts? IMGUR Link, pictures of setup, etc: http://imgur.com/a/cPTVP
  3. got it! i have no idea what amount of power i will need so i did a quick google search, but i feel like people were saying 650w because it was assumed to be used on a real PC rig, instead of just a small egpu setup. Ill be stepping it down to 500w then!
  4. Cool thanks for the heads up, do you think something like this will work? As a note: I plan to change to an SFX PSU once I know the rig is running. http://www.amazon.com/SilverStone-Technology-Factor-Modular-SX600-G/dp/B00MO675S8/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1460947594&sr=1-1&keywords=sfx+psu&refinements=p_n_feature_keywords_two_browse-bin%3A6906985011 And thank you on the note re: the PCIe Riser!
  5. Hey all, I'm building an eGPU next week... wanted to make sure I have the parts that I need. I am following this guide: https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/9557-imac-late-2013-27in-gtx-780m-4-g-ram-evga-gtx-980-ti-hybrid10gbps-tb1highpoint-rocketstor-6361a-os-x-scooter/ I have iMac 27" (Late 2013) running a gtx 780m, TB1 External Dell IPS Monitor 650W PSU (not modular, i will need to figure out how to fit it in the case) I bought GTX 780ti 3GB (for its godly amount of CUDA cores - would have liked 6gb but out of my budget) SilverStone Technology Mini-ITX Slim Small Form Factor Computer Case with Handle ML08B-H HighPoint RocketStor 6361A Thunderbolt 2 PCIe Expansion Chassis Will I need anything else? I noticed the guide said that some female pins will be needed and i will need to heat sink / solder them - I have no experience with this, is there an easy way around this? Will the paperclip trick work instead?

  7. Hey guys I use octane render on my late 2013 iMac 27", and its a pain in the ass to get this thing to render at any decent speed while modeling. For personal reasons, I decided to opt out of building a PC and instead put up some money for an egpu instead... Here's what I have (most of this is from my old gaming rig, I've included links with exact specs): I have: iMac (Late 2013) + 3.5 GHz i7 + 8GB RAM + 3 TB Fusion Drive + Nvidia Geforce GTX 780M 4096MB Corsair TX650 PSU + 650W []Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, LED LCD TV, Digital Cameras and more - Newegg.com EVGA SuperClocked Geforce GTX 570 (Fermi) []Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, LED LCD TV, Digital Cameras and more - Newegg.com - Note: I will be buying a GTX970 down the line, I will be using this card for now for testing purposes. Dell 23" U2311H IPS Monitor I want to buy: Akitio Thunder 2 PCIe Expansion Chassis Barrel-to-Molex Plug (I've read that these are great alternatives to PCIe risers and cause less problems) Questions: I've seen only a couple cases of an egpu hooked up to an iMac on this forum, will the setup i posted work? Will I be able to use this guide to automate my egpu installation process?http://forum.techinferno.com/apple-egpu-discussion/10289-script-automating-installation-egpu-os-x-inc-display-output.html Will I only be able to use Octane on my external monitor? I read that if you're in a window it shouldn't matter - I run Octane through Cinema4d in a window, so it should still run on my iMac screen right? Will I eventually be able to SLI two 970s together on my iMac?
