  1. Wow, didn't see that page before. Very interesting, seems that no one's setup is about the same. I plan on making a eGPU this spring once I have the $$$ I would like to go with the simplest/easiest setup possible in terms of booting it up and it running reliably. I do know I will be using a GTX 970. Since I already have a Bootcamp W10 install it seems like this would be the route to go down. I see that 1.3 has some improvements, but is 1.2 still recommended for 2012 Retina MBP?
  2. This is the first post I've seen for the 2012 MBP 15" that used the eGPU Setup program and first implementation I've seen of it. How much of a sure fire way is using "eGPU Setup" to get a eGPU working easily? The reason I am confused is that the website for eGPU Setup's copyright was 2012... seems like pretty old software with not much explanation on their site. I guess my question is, if it is so "easy" to install the eGPU on windows using this paid tool, and have it fully implemented into your Bootcamp partition, why are others not using this method to install their eGPU's on Windows 10 and relying on methods that limit their abilities to use the eGPU (i.e. no internal display, specific boot up orders, etc.)? Is your method more future proof or reliable compared to LukeHero's method for example (which requires a EFI Install of Windows): http://forum.techinferno.com/implementation-guides-apple/10438-2012-15-mbpr-gt650m-gtx970%4010gbps-tb1-akitio-thunder2-win8-1-%5Blukehero%5D.html
  3. I understand you said you got it to work with EFI installed Windows? I recently have reinstalled to Windows 10 Pro. Do you know anything about getting this to work on Windows 10? If you don't do a EFI Install what problems does that create, I know you said it makes it plug and play, but can it be done without reinstalling windows? I literally just upgraded my hard drive and spent 2 days configuring my new Windows partition... sounds like I'd have to do it all over again. I have read on a couple of forum posts that it is easier on Windows 10 to get it to work with Bootcamp partition than it was with Windows 8.1? Have you upgraded to Windows 10 at this point yet?
  4. Wow thats awesome, I actually have a Gamecube controller and adaptor I use to play on Dolphin, thats good to hear. I bet they look great on dolphin with some real graphics behind it. What do you think the future use of the eGPU, i.e. how future proof is the setup? Can you still get OS updates without worry, at least on the windows side?
  5. So you can play the game on the internal monitor windowed is what you mean? I didn't realize the 650M could be used to display and then the eGPU power the game, didn't know that was possible. Even if you can play it windowed thats good.
  6. I appreciate it, looking forward to doing this. Since you got it working with the internal display, how much of a performance hit is there? It'd be cool if there was a way to get the discrete Nvidia 650m to do solely the internal display while the eGPU did the heavy lifting, but I know thats not possible.
  7. Definitely going to follow this thread. Let us know if anything changes. I plan on doing this Spring 2016 (don't have the extra $$$ right now) and will use your guide as I have the exact same computer, 2012 15" Retina, 650m etc.
